Xbox 360 gets another BC update

Latest update pushes number of backward-compatible games past 250; 39 games added to list, nine games receive updated support.

Microsoft has updated its Xbox 360 backward-compatibility list, this time adding 39 new games and updating support for nine more. That brings the total number of Xbox games playable on the Xbox 360 up past the 250 mark.

When the last update to the list was made in June, it added only 27 games to the list, a half-dozen of which were Japanese Xbox games like Bistro Cupid or Mahjong Seminar. That update was released in the wake of controversial comments from Microsoft VP Peter Moore, who was quoted as saying that nobody really cares about backward compatibility anymore.

As with most backward-compatibility updates, there are a mix of big-name games (Burnout 3: Takedown, the unreleased Lego Star Wars II, True Crime: Streets of L.A.) and some odd titles that likely just happened to work with the system's latest software emulation (Aquaman, Catwoman, Shincho Mahjong).     I think you will find that it's simply due to the tweaks to the emulator that more games can work, this in fact is hinted at in the article if you people care to read it more carefully:

    'As with most backward-compatibility updates, there are a mix of big-name games and some odd titles that likely just happened to work with the system's latest software emulation.'

    It is most likely that they have been tweaking it to add some more new, and good, games (such as Burnout) and due to the the tweaking, unexpectedly some other games worked. Which may or may not be that good. You have to take what you can get after all.

    Microsoft won't put any Good games on the list because they are tryin to port them and get gamers to shell out more money for the same game but "up-rated graphics" this move will lead people to snuff the x360 cause its a totally waste of power and money to have great O-X, games but are stuck with playing the crap of today. I talked to MS they told me if people called them and complained more they would hurry up and get more stuff done, like music mix 360- lol Can't wait for that one

    You can probobly go to any pawn shop in your area and talk the guy down to 50 bux for an original xbox and play any old game that you want. It just wont be anti aliased like crazy the way the BC games are........Hey! Where are all the sony trolls to make fun of our list? Talk about missing a prime opportunity, those guys are never around when you need em'.

    Hey. I thought Magatama was canceled for the U.S. Xbox and never made it here. Does anyone know if it will really work on the 360 and if they are talking about a import or actual American version? If so I need to get this game. I know it's not a great game but hey I'm curious and would like to see for myself.

    another post , why is burnout 3 on the list when they could have put revenge on it and really make ppl angry lol , timesplitters 2 and 3 neeed one as 360 lacks multiplayer games , and racing games like apex , tocarace driver 2 pulse racer , and the most wanted game i want to be bc is need for speed most wanted

    halo was compatible from the getgo thats why its not on this list , these are newly added games and its ashame 3 more of my games but none of my fav , timesplitters why ms i guess the feed back dont work atall wat a scam

    Excellent! I'm glad to see that MS is keeping up wit hthe BC, and there are some nice titles included this time (Pirates! Fatal Frame DC), but where is my Brothers In Arms?!

    I Still don't see Psychonauts, Jet Set Radio Future, or Panzer Dragoon Orta on that list. Shame on you Microsoft. Instead of making crap like Catwoman and Aquaman Backwards Compatible give these games the BC treatment.

    Does Microsoft even care about making thier consumers happy? I mean, for the Love Of God, put on Prince Of Persia Two Thrones. Its kinda gay to have the other 2 BC and not the latest game of the series. They should actually take a pole of what games poeple actually play. C'mon, Barbie, Aquaman?? There are games ive NEVER even heard about before on the list. Microsoft needs to stop thinking what people like and start asking. I think they should also put up the original Killer Instinct on the XBox Live Arcade!
