Catan tops new Live Arcade trio

Classic board game will join Alhambra, Carcassonne on Microsoft's download service.

During the first day of the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany, Microsoft released a wealth of details regarding its upcoming accessories for Xbox 360 and PC, as well as a few morsels about its upcoming lineup of games.

Fittingly for a conference in Germany, the new games announced for Xbox Live Arcade had a European board-game heritage. Outpost Kaloki X is about to have some genre company on Xbox Live Arcade, as all three titles will call on strategic thinking from the players. The announced games include the civilization-building Settlers of Catan, the tile-based city-building game Carcassonne, and the Arabian-themed stock-market game Alhambra set to be available through the Xbox.

I want Commander Keen on XBLA. Old shareware platformer.... but lots and lots of fun as a kid.

I'd buy a 360 and subscribe to Xbox LIVE for Settlers of Catan alone! Seriously. I think I will buy a 360 for a few old friends so we can have Catan matches again, even though we live in different places now.

Catan? Alhambra? Carcassonne? What the **** is this ****? The first two sound like third world capital cities and the third sounds like an obscure cheese.

Here's hoping they not only release Settlers of Catan, but they sontinue support for it by releasing Seafears and Cities and Kinghts, as well as 5 & 6 player support. Fans of the game will know what I'm talking about. Super Settlers is the only settlers!

My GF, friends, and I play it about 2-4 times a week since I finally bought my copy of the tabletop version in Febuary, and we have only cleaned it off my kitchen table once. It sits out on the table for easy play.

I LOVE THIS!

Catan is in my opinion, the best board game ever created. I'm stoked about this, I've been hoping for it to come out on the DS but this is even better. The Java web site is fun but I think that live has more potential.

Well Rijnie thats what happens when you rush out to by the first batch of systems. New released systems always have bugs man, i know, for my xbox 360 crash too, and what made it worst was the fact that i bought a warranty from the store, and when i went back to exchange it, they said i couldn't because they lost all the data they had on there machine because they link with gamestop, and without the reciept i can't exchange it. So i went to microsoft got another system and it did the same thing. Thats why i am waiting for to by my ps3 like 8 to 12 months after it comes out.

More than Risk, I'd love to see them do Axis & Allies on Live, especially the newer versions of it, like A&A: Pacific.

I'm real glad to see Live expand into Eurogames, and I hope to see more. Kniza's Samurai, Amun-Re, Power Grid, Thurn & Taxis... stuff like that.

I definitely think this is a good way for them to diversify Live. Have some boardgames, some classic games, some old arcade games, a new puzzle game.

More than that, I'd love to see some Indie games get launched on Live. A potentially great medium to raise the profiles of those rarer games.

Wow, Carcassonne on Xbox Live? That is sweet! Can't wait for that. Also, Alhambra is a fun game as well. They need to add games like Puerto Rico and Ticket to Ride.

Risk would be cool.

Even cooler would be Magic: The Gathering played over live and boosters purchasable with MP's on marketplace.

I'll try one or two of these new games but I too would like to see RISK on Live.

When I first got my 360, and experienced Xbox Arcade, the first thing I thought of, is how effing cool Settlers of Catan would be on Xbox Arcade. Unless they screw this up, this will be the funnest thing to play online... ever. And though I haven't played the other two, they sound very fun as well. Now all they need is Risk and few other fun board games (as long as they're online), and Xbox Arcade is set.

If they gave the date or anything fine, but I'm betting either not america or not til next year.

The problem with Live Arcade is there's not enough good on it. and Midway is junking it up with tons of crap.
