Nintendo readies pink DS in Europe

Mario factory aims to increase appeal among women; handheld gets new colour, October launch.

During Nintendo's press conference at the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany, this morning, the Nintendo DS Lite Pink was announced. It carries a European release date of October 27--a US date was not specified.

A 'Noble Pink' version of the handheld console is already available in Japan. This news follows a day after Sony announced pink versions of the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable in Europe.

The company has made no secret of its desire to further increase its market share among women. It says that women make up 44 percent of DS owners in Germany, thanks primarily to games such as Nintendogs, which are said to be attracting substantial numbers of 'nongamers'.

Nintendo has sold over five million DS handhelds in Europe (and over 21 million worldwide) and says that the new pink version is 'the perfect accessory for those dark winter days'.

    i think pink is perfect. my gf bought me a white lite for my birthday. she wasnt too interested in many games (outsided of the retro), but since my mini game high scores on NSMB are continuously being crushed, pink could not have come at a better time.
    now hurry up with that US release so i dont have to import!

    not giving us ( in USA ) the option of choosing atleast 2 color is down right wrong. We should have atleast White & Black. Lite Blue & Pink would be nice as the second batch. Damn you Nintendo.

    Why won't they just bring some new colors to the US?

    It's so frustrating. I'm gonna end up having to import the pink one for $200 this Christmas just to find out they'll release it in the US in March or something.

    I'm a guy, and I wouldn't mind a pink DS Lite, it plays the same games as a regular one, its just pink.

    So why doesn't the US get new colors?

    Europe has White, Black and now Pink
    Japan has White, Black, Pink, Light Blue, Dark Blue, and a special edition FF3 DS Lite.

    North America gets iPod white. Damn Apple and the making white popular! Since the black iPod Nano and black Apple laptops are selling very well. I think Nintendo will release Black by Christams.

    For those too ignorant to read other comments; listen up.

    Nintendo isn't copying. Nintendo's 'Noble Pink' DS Lite was released in Japan a month or two ago. Sony's just managed to catch up. Sony's only just released their pink PSP after Nintendo had released their pink DS. Sony are still those that would be copying, not the other way around. Learn to read.

    Not that I'm accusing Sony of copying, after all, they're just collaberating with Pink herself.

    As for the pink itself, why is it just us Europeans? We're not that fruity, are we?

    Nintendo had some German star and a soccer player promote their wii Strikers, but they couldn't get someone to promote the pink version of the DS like Sony had hired P!nk to endorse the pink psp? It is kind of pointless not to continue the trend, nintendo.

    well that have successfully opened up the market a lot more to girl gamers... so why not a pink DS? also, wasnt the pink DS lauched wayyyy back, bundled with Nintendogs? ... yes that was DS phat, but my point is that a pink DS isn't exactly astonishing..

    When is the Pink DS Lite coming to North America. I hope before Xmas because my girlfriend said she would love to have a pink DS. A bonus side to this is that I would then get my DS Lite back from her.
