New Wii games announced

New Mario Strikers, Battalion Wars announced for Nintendo's upcoming console at Leipzig Conference; Wii price, date still secret.

Nintendo used its high-profile press conference at the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany, this morning to announce two new games for the Wii but disappointed anyone waiting for information about the launch price of the next-gen console.

Nintendo announced a new Mario sports title for the Wii, called Mario Strikers Charged (working title). The sequel to Super Mario Strikers is likely to make full use of the Wii controller--the game is playable at Leipzig, and GameSpot will bring you more information as soon as we can. German footballer Philipp Lahm was featured in a video to promote the game, and it was demonstrated on stage by a Germany TV star.

Battalion Wars 2 for the Wii was also announced and will be playable on Nintendo's stand at Leipzig. Very few details of the game have been released, although Nintendo did say that it was abbreviated to BWii. The original Battalion Wars was released on the GameCube in late 2005.

Nintendo also revealed that a pink DS Lite would come to Europe on October 27.

k to the guy with opinion about having GTA banned while u are entitled to ur opinon. However, letting some people tell everyone what they can and can't do is a disgusting thought then we might as well all be like freaken robots that go to work and go home to bed and remember to take ur meds like a good little boy or the goverment will get u. censorship is never the answer censorship just wrecks media in general. I have a strong distaste for anykind of censorship, there is a very simple rule to be had here if it offends u or you don't like suck it up and keep ur mouth shut don't force ur views on others just let it go. There is also the fact that maybe some parents should just own up and control there children why should all of us have to worry about where games we want because some parents can't handle saying "No, you can't play that" is that really that hard to do geez this really is the age of no responsibility.

Well about the M rated games... those are the ones that are always getting the top in game lists all axcept nintendos.. nintendo does not realize that its not just kids buying their consoles they dont just want to play easy games that you can complete in a short amount of time... they want something with more action, not something that just LOOKS good and for some reason there is hardly ever any news that is worth reading about the wii its always something that does not really improve the appeal of the wii, and look at the game cube news and the gba that same crap has been sitting there for about 2 months.. nintendo is beginning to get old altogether, yeah every now and then they come out with a few great games, but its always something Ive seen before nothing new.. and mario is one of the best things nintendo has got

So what. 2 games that dont interest me. I want to know more about my precious Metroid3, Super Mario Galaxy which I hope to God is not as small as it looks, and Brawl. This Wii has had much more good news so this is forgivable. PS3 is doomed. This doesn't beat 360 though with Star Trek Legacy I love that game already. I own a 360 and will get this system. Damnit I am having the best year of my life, video game wise. I love my ds with the mario games...Damnit I love Mario games they kick ass!

To the person who said Mario is gay...Mario is who started and revolutionized the video gaming world to what it is today. All of Mario's games (i.e. Mario Galaxy, Mario Strikers, Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Bros DS) have been great hits. Also, about the M-Rated comment under me (posted by atomD21), I agree with you. Who cares if its rated E for Everyone, T for Teen, or M for Mature, it's all about the gamer and what the gamer likes to play. I would rather play Mario and defeat Koopa Troopas then go play GTA and shoot hoodlums and steal cars. I honestly think (Note to the morons out there: this is an opinion so don't get your panties in a bunch), GTA should be removed from shelves and banned from the US permanently. Yeah their good games, but 12 year olds are able to get holds of games like this and that's not something for us to be proud about. I love Nintendo. With games like the new Strikers and all those adventure games that come out, proves how different Nintendo is then Microsoft and Sony. They go for the what the people want, not to make only M-Rated games and try to make themselves look so mature and what-not.

I am getting a bit sick of the stupid "not enough M-rated games on Nintendo systems" argument. What about an M rating automatically makes a game good? Do you go into withdrawl and have seizures if there isn't blood spraying everywhere and the F-word every eight seconds? Personally, I'd rather play games that are fun, regardless of the rating.

Meh didn't much care for the first strikers. My only hope for this console is that there are more good games for it then there where for the game cube. I mean the game cube had a few good titles (zelda, metroid, re4, supermonkey ball, and a few others) but compared to the ps2 they where kind of weak in the game department. and i don't just mean release titles i mean after the wii has been out for 6 months and the inital shock is done with where there be new games. Another thing i would hate to see is them adding the motion sensing tech to all games just because they can say it has it like some of the ds games, in the end it shows that it was forced and then the game sucks. im sure in the end the wii will be great im more worried about down the line, and im not "dising" the wii or the game cube as i own most of the consoles that are out (im missing a jaguar all parts and some other smaller ones) i plan on buying a wii and a ps3 (i already have a 360). well thats it there is my rant.

Wow Syferonik, you applied an extremely weak insult, which is normally only applied to living creatures, to an inanimate object, without good reason or explanation, proving that it's a lame and generically incorrect opinion since an inanimate object has no sexuality! Applause for you.

Boo_Dat I'm sure you didn't read my post because of its length but just to sum it up, I was not angry about someone "dissing" Nintendo, I just felt that this person was wasting our time teasing us and our taste. I feel that I have the right to want what I want and I shouldnt hear someone else's opinion unless it is a worth while one. Please don't get me wrong, I am not angry with either of you, I am just annoyed that people seem to think that they are better than someone else just because one person is partial to a rival company.

I have to agree with these guys, Nintendos awesome dont get me wrong, but I prefer to stick with either the 360 or a ps3, the games that nintendo have on there playable list, are most likely going to for launch, well some of them at least , but there arent enough M rated titles that have my interests, like right now I own the 360 and i only have M rated titles for it.. but nintendo has never made a lot of mature rated games, I like nintendo for those great games like smash bros, and certain games that only came out on nintendo game console

Honestly, it find it somewhat annoying when someone gets so passionate about something so insignificant. Maybe we should be directing this intensity toward something worth while like a charitable organization or inner-city kids with broken homes, widows, single mothers or drug abusers. Take my word for it, it'll make you feel a lot better when you volunteer for any of these causes. But more importantly, it'll make someone else feel good about themself.

Rengoku if you wanted to "dis" the Wii you picked the WRONG place to do it. Right where all the Nintendo fans are talking about how they are going to spend all of there money on a consol you come in and tell them all it is "crap". You tell them that they are all spending a couple hundered dollars to "look like a retard swinging a remote around". What the heck? Is it attention you wanted? Because if so you got it. You said sorry if I offended someone just to fall back on something but thats like calling someone a stupid idiot and saying it was in a good way. By the way we are going to look like retards swinging a remore around? Tell me how you you change the channel? Is it a drastic swing followed by a dramatic flip? If you didnt get that, it was sarcasm. We are not going to look like retards because we are not retards. We are going to play the Wii games the way Nintendo wanted us to. Pointing a remote at a screen, turing it around, lunging or whatever needs to be done. Plus, doing this gets us INTO the game. Games were originally designed do get people excited about the game and putting people into the game will get them once again excited. Sure its not like virtual reality or something but i'm sure that is was Nintendo was going for. Ok so now I guess I've made my point that Nintendo likes to try new things: touch screen, microphone, and now a remote. Sure they are going out on a limb but you should respect them for that. Your prediction was that the Wii would have a big launch, and then fail. How would you know that? This is just your blind opinion. Blind. Nintendo would have to do studies and all kinds of sample testers to find out what people like. There is a chance that the Wii will do horribly but it's different and people aparently like that. I have a DS I am planning on getting a Wii. I like Nintendo. Do not judge them just on BLIND OPINION. Please. Now you say that Nintendo's games are all the same. A million Marios. That is true. I like Mario ok. He's not my favorite Nintendo charecter but I like him. But consider this. I can tell that you like Sony so I'll use Final Fantasy. There are a million Final Fantasy games but still no one is tired of them. DO you know why? Because they are all different. Different stories, charecters, and reasons to get excited. Now I'm sure your thinking that well there are a bunch of the same types of Mario games also. Well there are a million mario games because there is Soccer, Tennis, Baseball, and all kinds of different sports. Then there are the Side Srollers and the 3d Marios such as "Super Mario 64" or "Super Mario Sunshine". The reason for this is that the originals of these games did very well so they made sequals. These sequals do not make up for a large part of the Mario franchise so therefore Mario is just Nintendo putting a face to a faceless group of games. He's like USA's Uncle Sam. He puts a face to the entire American army. Mario puts a face to a large group of Nintendo games. Now this is only Mario. All the Sony, Microsoft, and PC games assume that Mario is Nintendo because that is all that they see. If you actually looked into Nintendo to see all they're games you will se that they are always trying something new. Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, Meteos. There are also classic games such as Resident Evil. So dont say that all Nintendo games are they same because you couldnt be more wrong. In the end, I am just asking you to keep it to yourself. We neither need to or want to hear that kind of stuff here where we just want to be excited about a system. Go buy your PS3 and enjoy it. Have a nice day.

LOL hmmm... everything sounds cheaper in America... over here in aus because our $AUS is worth about 3/4 $US the standard price for a game is $100... some of the 360 games go as high as $120... PS3 games are gonna be pretty pricey...

first off all this talk about which cosole is the best is getting old. There is not a consloe on the planet that can step to the the pc. Not the $600 wal-mart special most of you use, but a real gaming machine. I still like a good console game sometimes, but come on. I have some of the same problems alot of you have with nintendo, the game library needs some work. They do have some great titles but definantly could use alot more games. I really hope nintendo gets more 3rd party development. This is the first console in a long while that have i had some intrest in. Like many of you have said price is a big deal, so either bite the bullet and spend 2 grand on a real pc or quit whining and wait till nintendo announces more title before you go crying on and on about mario and donkey kong. Bottom line is if they get a more better rounded library of titles $250 american ( or so that is the reported cost thus far ) will a heck of a steal.

Maybe we all can just stop giving off on either XB360, PSIII and Wii. Some like one, some the other. It's a matter of TASTE and no matter what you all say, taste is personal. So give it a rest, will ya!!
Personally, I like all three of them. I bought a GC for 'fun with the family', and honestly, I don't think anything can beat GC or the upcoming Wii in playability. XBOX is just cool, with the HDD and all, Forza, Halo, PGR2 and other great titles. Linux boot and you've got a quality mediacentre-like pc. Great value for money there! 360 looks really good, PGR3 especially. Hope we will see some linux/boot chip mods on that one as well. PS2: well, GT3, Final Fantasy titles, great great great. PS3: powerfull all around, good games (GT4, anyone? ;-) ), a bit costly, but I think worth it if bought when it's a few years on the market. Imho, there is no 'one way'. All three are great, in their own right. @Liamland: true, they need diversity if it has to appeal to the masses, but does it really have to?? They want to bring 'other people' into the gaming industry, like the elderly (see DS Brainstuff). Picture both mom, dad and the children playing on the Wii, I don't see a whole family bashing each others brain in on an XBOX/XBOX360 or PS2/3 playing Halo :-D

    Posted Aug 30, 2006 8:28 am PT

    It's "grammar," boys.

I think the Wii has potential. If I get one of the next three systems, it would be the Wii--mostly for quality classic games like Zelda, Metroid, Mario Kart, and Smash Bros., and for the nostalgia with backwards compatibility for past system games. The PS3 will probably be the top system of the three, but it's going to cost WAY too much. I'll pick up the PS3 years later, when the price has dropped, and really the only think I liked about the Xbox were the hard drive--with the ability to rip your music into playlists accessable during the games--and a few classic games like Halo, their GTA ports, and Max Payne. I know 360 is hot right now, but I'm pretty sure it's all the hype of a new system.

Nintendo has made some really bad decisions over the past few years, and the DS and the Wii name is evidence of that. They're trying too hard to revolutionize the game-play, when they need to focus more on quality gaming. I like the idea of the ergonomically correct controller, but that should probably be one of two optional controllers. Nintendo also has the stigma of making a majority of games for little kids with too much Pokemon and not enough games like Metroid Prime and Resident Evil 4. To truly be a console that appeals to the masses, they'll need a better balance.

I don't hate Nintendo. I just dont like most of their games thats all.
The only games I own for GC is all the Resident Evil Games, Sonic,
and Zelda. As for my DS, Castlevania and Resident Evil. But lets make one thing clear, I dont hate Nintendo, I just dont like most of their games.
So what Im trying to say is, I love Mature games because it fits my age
of an adult. So I rather stick with Sony's next Gen console, the PS3.

I care less of what people think me. Its there problem. I just dont like how
Nintendo is putting there next gen consols into a DS like gameplay.
And I know all of you would buy Wii because its cheap and has titles
that you guys are familiar to you. I'm not against Nintendo, but I dislike
most of there titles. They make too many Mario games for example. And I know Mario is a mas-scot for Nintendo, but I think its about time
for a little change. And with the wii remote... not my taste. So I rather
stick with Sony because it has games what I like. And its okay if most of disagree with me. I too own a DS and GC. But I wont own Wii due to its lack of new games and the remote. And I wont have a "killer" time with it.

Sorry Nintendo, you've lost a good customer.

Regoku2tsth cares what ppl thinks of him, i mean so what if ppl thinks ur an idiot doesnt stop u having a killer time then they are, well if u want to go and buy the ps2 wif improved grafics that is the ps3 and sitting in ur room for like god knows how long playing video games. No one said u be waving the remote around, the game expo of the Wii remote was all exaggeration with the swinging etc. but when ppl played games at the game convention they onli move thier wrist around therefore the waving of the remote is all exaggeration, even if u get the remote i can asure that ppl wont be doing the things that the ppl did in the game expo.

Wii is cool, but it doesn't have many Mature games, mostly kids games such as Mario, and I know Mario is Nintendos mas-scot but they make way to many of his games, and its getting very boring. Plus I really hate the Wii remote, I dont want to look like a retard waving the remote all
over the place. So I rather stick with the PS3 where all the true action begins,
and with a normal controller. So in my opinion, Wii isnt gonna make it, its gonna have alot of sales on the luanch I bet, but after a good while, its gonna turn out to be like Sega Saturn & Virtual Boy. Sorry if I have offended
any of you. And Wii will not rule all consoles but itself.

The Super Mario Strikers game was sort of... meh. And other than new characters and arenas, I don't see many major changes this sequel could possibly have to it's predecessor. Battalion Wars on the other hand was one of the best GameCube games I've played! The only thing missing from it was some form of multiplayer mode be it co-op or versus... so I hope they implement that in "BWii"

About this whole Next-Gen discussion, people need to shut up until they've actually played on all the consoles before they claim superiority. Yes, the PS3 will have better specs than Wii, but then again Nintendo isn't trying to compete with Sony... they're just trying to make video games more fun through new innovative ways. But that doesn't mean the PS3 will dominate the Wii, it just means both consoles will appeal to two different types of gamers.

I think it's obvious why Nintendo chose to reveal Mario Strikers; they're in freakin Germany, you know, the place that just held the WORLD CUP. Europe's crazy about soccer, so this is a no-brainer on Nintendo's part. As for Battalion Wars, I'm not sure why they revealed it there, but I'm glad as all hell they're bringing it back. The game has so much potential, and the original could've easily reached greatness had it been polished a bit more, and featured multiplayer/online. The idea of that just sounds like so much fun. And hell, the Advance Wars is hot off the excellet release of Dual Strike, so this is smart of Kuju to try and continue the hype.

Great, 2 new games for the Wii. Well, at least they got us in suspense, I mean how lame it would be if you were to announce and spill all the information about the system (it's price) and every possible game that might or will come out for the Wii. I'd say they are doing a good job at keeping customers intact with Nintendo. As for the two new games, I am kinda pleased to see games from the GC coming to the Wii and having a new storyline and gameplay. Pink DS...I'll pass, thanks...
