PSP goes Pink with Pink

Sony gets the party started with third standard PSP colour for Europe, collaboration with music artist Pink.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe today confirmed that early in Q4, Europe would see the release of the PlayStation Portable in pink, as well as the original black and the controversially promoted white.

Pink pushes pink PSPs.

The new colour will hit European shelves on October 27, shortly before the recently announced pink PlayStation 2, and be priced at 169 (roughly $320) in the UK and 229 (roughly $295) in the eurozone. According to Sony, there are no current plans to release the pink version in the US or Japan.

The P!nk PSP, as the new model is officially known, will come with white headphones, a white pouch and wrist strap, and a 32MB MemoryStick Duo. The pack will also include an 'exclusive' UMD of content from the pop star Pink, including music videos, footage of an 'intimate UK showcase', an interview with the artist and the track 'Crash and Burn', which Sony claims is not available on any Pink album in Europe. There will also be more available to download, exclusively to Pink PSP owners upon registering their new handheld.

Explaining Sony's reasons for this new colour and collaboration, Stephane Hareau, PSP senior brand manager for SCEE, said, "The P!nk PSP launch is much more than just launching a new colour. It is about a confident and powerful attitude for young women. The association with P!nk, a worldwide icon and musical chameleon, will enable PSP to push new boundaries."

In the 11 months the PSP has been on sale in Europe, Sony claims to have shipped 4.5 million of the handhelds.

    I really wish they would release a pink PSP in North America. I don't have a PSP yet(was waiting for a price drop), but a pink one would make me definitly buy one later.

    At least Nintendo is releasing a pink DS lite here. I already have a DS fat but think I am going to get the pink one anyway.

    Reading some of these comments I now know why video games as an entertainment medium will never be taken that seriously. Some of you are really fricking stupid! It's a bloody colour, no one is ripping any one off. They have released the pink versions over in the UK cause it's the chavs favorite colour and the marketmen are smart and know it will sell.

    If Sony just released a different color, but it seems odd that only days after Nintendo released the Pink DS that Sony all of sudden has a “Pink” DS. If this was a isolated event, I would go “Heh, whatever.” But Sony seems to forming a streak. Nintendo releases that their controllers will have motion sensors, then all of the sudden now the PS3 will have it too! The coincidences are just adding up.

    Its just a color, dont get all stupid over it...they are not making you look at it, and dont forget that nintendo it the first company to make a pink game system, the pink transparent gameboy advance....if you read everything there are no plans for this pink psp to be released in the US, so stop with the childish name calling

    Could Sony be anymore lame? I mean who's bright idea was it to release Pink everything when their are clearly better color options. Like Blue, Green, Silver, Orange, Grey, etc.

    I mean I see the guys in their suits and power ties talking on a Pink Razor phones and I can't help but laugh at them. Pink is NOT cool, period.
