Romanowski, Taylor get Blitzed

Admitted steroid abuser joins admitted crack addict as cover boys for Midway's latest out-of-bounds football game.
By Brendan Sinclair, GameSpot

Midway's unlicensed football game Blitz: The League is all about the unpleasant side of professional football: drugs, egos, and career-ending hits. For the series' debut last year, the publisher enlisted NFL Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor to be the cover boy. An admitted cocaine abuser, Taylor has struggled with drug addiction and in 2004 told 60 Minutes that after his playing career was over, he would spend thousands of dollars a day on crack and women.

For the series' debut on the PSP and Xbox 360, the publisher is once again tapping Taylor as the cover athlete. But this time he'll be joined by a former pro who can give him a run for his money when it comes to notoriety. Sharing cover space with Taylor will be four-time Super Bowl champion Bill Romanowski, who played for the San Francisco 49ers, Philladelphia Eagles, Denver Broncos, and Oakland Raiders over his 16-year NFL career as a linebacker. As intimidating and intense as any player to strap on a helmet in the league, Romanowski may be best remembered for hitting a teammate in the face when he played for the Raiders, breaking the man's eye socket and ending his career. Last year the linebacker admitted to 60 Minutes that he used steroids and human growth hormone for the last two years of his career.

Just as Taylor adopted the role of Quentin Sands to play a part in the game, so too will Romanowski assume a pixelated alter ego. Stepping into the cleats of Bruno Batagglia, Romanowski will portray the Baltimore Bearcats' franchise player and play a pivotal role in the game's story, both on and off the field.

Blitz: The League will appear on the Xbox 360 in October, followed in November by the newly subtitled PSP edition of the game, Blitz: The League Overtime. A Wii version of the game was previously announced as well.

I enjoyed last year's Blitz and it was the best footbal game out (in my opinion) since madden was just a bore to me (especially on the 360). This one sounds like it s just a port because last year, the character Bruno Batagglia later joins your team after you make it to Division 2 so why is he back on the Baltimore Bearcats again? Either way, I'm picking this one up but probably not for $60. I'll wait for the price to drop.

Crazy stuff. LT is loved, but Romanowski is pure evil.

I don't think these guys should be rewarded for breaking real-life rules and using drugs and performance enhancing substances.

I dont think we should be punished for EA's or NFL's greed to make money off of the madden name, but we dont have that control and never will

I still think we need two leagues for every sport. The Clean League and the Roid League (where steroid usage is mandatory). Now that would make for some entertainment.

As long as the 360 version isn't just a rehash, I'm buying this bad boy day one....Okay, I'd still buy it as long as the graphics kick @$$

Blitz was fun and all, but I want the REAL bloody, cheating, bone crushing game to come back. You all know what I'm talking about...EA, bring back MUTANT LEAGUE FOOTBALL!!!

and after that, bring back mutant league hockey while you're at it!

I hope we can end the career of Romanoski as well that'll be cool, like break his legs and arms or something like that. That's what this game is all about, breaking bones and gushing blood, pretty violent but fun, in a sick and twisted sort of way.

A 360 version sounds cool, maybe I'll check it out if Madden doesn't turn out to be as good.

Is this going to be a new game, or the same old game again? Bruno was a great character in the PS2 version, probably made better by Romanowski.

"I have some thing to tell Romanowski get off the juice. But He will not and will only be hurting him self."

Dude, get a grip and speak when you have something to say, not just to pump up your GS ranking. Romanowskis career is over so he is off the juice. *sigh* Kids these days.

I have some thing to tell people that use steroids and other things get off the juice. But He and so many other people like him only destroy there career instead of help it. I wish the Blitz game for the 360 was a whole new game instead of the port from the PS2 and Xbox.

I went to the same high school as Bill. It's too bad he decided to use steroids. I might check out this game since I always enjoyed the over the top play of NFL Blitz from the 90's.
