Genesis Collection detailed

Sega reveals full list of games from 16-bit system to be included in upcoming retro compilation for PS2, PSP.
By Brendan Sinclair, GameSpot
Posted Aug 17, 2006 2:39 pm PT

Last week, Sega announced that it was bringing a retro compilation of Genesis games to the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable later this year. The publisher confirmed that Golden Axe, Sonic the Hedgehog, Shinobi III, Altered Beast, and a Phantasy Star game would be among the included titles.

After a week of speculation, Sega has provided gamers with a full list of 28 Genesis titles that will be included in the collection. The rest of the originally promised "more than 30" games should be accounted for by unlockable arcade games.

It turns out each of the previously confirmed franchises (except Altered Beast) will be represented by multiple games, with Phantasy Star and Golden Axe each seeing installments included in the compilation. Joining that list of Sega luminaries will be a number of lesser-known (but still fondly remembered) games like Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle, Ecco the Dolphin, Kid Chamelon, and Vectorman.

The full list of Genesis titles included in the collection follows:

Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
Altered Beast
Bonanza Bros.
Columns
Comix Zone
Decap Attack starring Chuck D. Head
Ecco the Dolphin
Ecco II: The Tides of Time
Ecco Jr.
Kid Chameleon
Flicky
Gain Ground
Golden Axe
Golden Axe II
Golden Axe III
Phantasy Star II
Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom
Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millenium
Ristar
Shadow Dancer: The Secret of Shinobi
Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Super Thunder Blade
Sword of Vermilion
Vectorman
Vectorman 2
Virtua Fighter 2

Where are the Streets of Rage games?! I would have thought that to be a no-brainer! Streets of Rage 2 is as much of a classic as Sonic, or any other of these games. When you ask any Genesis owner what his favorite games are, Streets of Rage 2 is one among some that you'll almost always hear.

anyone confused why genesis collection is the same as the mega drive collection(ps i mean both psp versions)
that seems silly to make a listing the same but with a slightly different cover but 1 cost more than th other

I hate to knock Nintendo, but they are selling Genesis game downloads for $8 a pop, yet this is nearly 30 games in an actual, physical package for only $19.99. Nintendo, please, fix your pricing. People will not be downloading much at the current price structure for long.

I can't believe they didn't put a Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat in there.
Nothing beats the old school Sub Zero fatality.

I was kind of hoping that they'd add some of the third party stuff in there (specifically Jungle Strike or Desert Strike), but that's still a good list. I'll still stick with my actual Genesis, though.

At least Metal Slug Anthology is coming out, so maybe SEGA is gonna lose out to Metal Slug cuz Metal Slug gave classics. Only a few here are worth it, so $30 is a fair price for the Golden Axes, Shinobi, Sonics, and Vectorman. Eight games in total are decent

No Streets of Rage or Shining Force? That went down a notch on my list, without those games, it is not worth $40, maybe thirty or even twenty dollars

I'd only buy it for the Phantasy Star games. Sonic is okay, but I already have the Sonic collection which contains several more games.

Let's hope that this time around the emulation is spot on. Many critics felt that the complilation disc of Genesis games for the Dreamcast was shoddy. Of course, we also can't forget the gawd-awful Sega Collection from a couple of years ago. You want to experience hardcore games? Wait until you play Kid Chameleon and DecapAttack. If there are indeed some unlockable games I hope Herzog Zwei and Revenge Of Shinobi are two of them.

I have only played Columns, Comix Zone, Ecco the Dolphine, Golden Axe, Flicky, Ristar, Sonic, Sonic 2, Vectorman, Vectorman 2, and Virtua Figher 2. Its a great collection of games since the Wii gets downloadable games from Sega on their system. I hope a sequel is announced in the future.
