Guinness recognizes record-setting Halo player

Cody Miller's speed run through Halo 2 on legendary without dying immortalized in 2007 Guinness World Records.

Unless they have a morbid interest in grotesquely long fingernails, the inane ability to balance various items on one's head, or extreme cases of overweight/tall/short people, gamers don't have much reason to be interested in Guinness World Records. Originally designed as a book to settle bar bets in the UK, Guinness World Records (formerly known as The Guinness Book of World Records) is a reference book noting the most extreme of human achievements and facts.

Now, one gamer's achievement sits alongside the records of longest table tennis rally, most time spent continually ironing, and shortest music video. Cody Miller's speed run through Halo 2 on legendary difficulty without dying has been officially recognized by Guinness, according to Bungie.

Miller completed Bungie's opus in just under three and a half hours. The feat was completed almost a year ago but was just included in the 2007 edition of Guinness World Records, which was released this month.

Gaming-records site Twin Galaxies set out the challenge of beating the game without dying as a $250 bounty, to which Miller accepted. To see Miller's breakdown of his record-setting run, head over to Halo fan site HBO.

Wow. just wow. I didn't know that it ws even possible to play ANY game that fast. I congratulate you, cody, on your outstanding achievement. And to all you console fan boys- All the systems have something to offer. The only platforms I own are my computer, GBA, and GAME CUBE. I'm not a big fan of sony but that doesn't mean the playstation2 is crap. just cause 1 game is not on your console doesn't mean it's crap. The thing thatmost annoys me is when someone says a console is a piece of crap and they've never played on it in their pathetic life to form an educated opinion. worst yet is when their arguement is "Why woud I play on a crappy system?". I'm a nintendo fan and I love Halo(2).

It took me and my friend almost an hour just to get through the first level on Legenday, and we died like 10 times. I'd say that this is pretty amazing. Nicely done Cody.

"Amazing skill there, but why are so many people doggin the kid?"

I'll take a stab at answering this:

With regards to comments of the "He must not have a life!" variety - their egos are grossly inflated. Seeing this Cody do something amazing and seeing the positive attention that he has recieved because of what he has done makes these people, who have done nothing particularly great and who are not famous themselves, feel somehow beneath him; like he is better than they are. The idea that they are lower than someone is not something that their delicate egos will tolerate, so they convince themselves that this person, rather than being above them, is in fact beneath them; a pathetic human being who pales in comparison to their own self-percieved magnificence. Their ego's insatiable appetite for peer approval compels them to try to convince others of this as well. However, as their negative opinions of this person are not based on evidence (empirical, logical or otherwise), their attempts at compelling others are usually nothing more than unsupported ad-hominems; "He must not have a life!" or some variant of this is quite common, as are negative remarks about someones physicial appearance.

With regards to comments of the "Thats not really that impressive" variety - some people probably just legitimately think that this isn't all that impressive, while others probably think subconciously that this feat is quite amazing; their jealousy, however, prohibits their concious mind from acknowledging this, and thus they trivialize the accomplishment and convince themselves that this feat is "no big deal."

On an unrelated note, the fact that I took the time to write all of this has made me realize that I need a hobby. Any non-video game related suggestions?

Random o7, that "gay elf" is a classic. Old school gaming. However, you would know nothing about that. It needs to be guns eh. Hey, i'm not saying Halo's a bad game, because it isn't, but, Random, you sound like you've never even played Halo.

    It is impressive.

A litle creepy...but impressive. On the one hand, I'm amazed someone can do that. On the other hand, I'm worried about how much time he must have spent playing this one game to get good enough to do it.

Miller deserves at least respect for this achievement.
Not only he did earned easy money, he earned fame and changed videogaming history. Not sure if he did wanted this tough.

For all of you people telling him to "get a life!", you are just showing your own sad truth. Get a life yourselves, and try to see if you can achieve something as meaningful as this. Sure it's not as meaningful to some people, but it's still meaningfull.

By the way, I heard that the maximum amount of time someone can play videogames straight (that means only very slight pauses for eating a little or going to the bathroom), is a about a week... but it depends in the person.

The Guinness Book of World Records, more like The Guinness Book of Who Gives A Crap.
