F.E.A.R. spreads to PS3

PALM SPRINGS, California--The desert may not seem like the ideal place to make a major game announcement, but Sierra Entertainment did anyway. Entertaining journalists from various gaming media outlets, the Vivendi Games subsidiary held an event at the Parker Hotel in the triple-digit heat of the Palm Springs desert, and used the occasion to announce its first PlayStation 3 game.

F.E.A.R., Sierra's popular PC shooter, is currently in development for Sony's next-gen console. This will be the third platform the series has spread to, following a previously announced Xbox 360 version, due in November, and the PC version, which was named Best Shooter of 2005 by GameSpot.

The game is being ported to the PS3 by Day 1 Studios, which is also working on the Xbox 360 version. What's more, would-be PS3 owners won't have to wait for F.E.A.R.--the game will be one of the system's launch titles when it debuts in the US on November 17.

In addition to the single- and multiplayer portions of the game, F.E.A.R. for the PS3 will also include exclusive content--though Sierra reps were not divulging any details.

The timing of the announcement may seem a bit unusual for fans of the series, as earlier this year the now Warner Bros. Interactive-owned-Monolith announced that a sequel to F.E.A.R. is already in the works for "multiple next-gen consoles," which almost certainly includes the PS3. The sequel will not be named F.E.A.R., however, since Vivendi owns the rights to the name.

Regardless of what the sequel is named, there will still be plenty of F.E.A.R. to go around this year. In addition to the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game, Sierra is releasing a PC expansion pack, F.E.A.R. Extraction Point. Today it also released F.E.A.R. Combat, the multiplayer portion of the PC game, for free download.

F.E.A.R. for the PS3 has not yet been rated or priced, but the Xbox 360 version will be $59.99 and is rated M for Mature. For more information, read GameSpot's review of the PC version on the game.

    WOW, to play FEAR in HDMI will be sweet as hell. 360 owners eat your hearts out! LOL! Having to play FEAR on COMPONENT hahaha color faded, blurry OLD COMPONENT!

    It seems like the TGS has answered most of the question. The PS3 support 7 controller, the HDMI is on the lower end PS3. The basic online will be free which include the multiplayer.

    I have no problems playing FPS with dual shock 2, the new controller should be much better when playing FPS. I would get F.E.A.R for PS3 even I already have it. This is a nice game plus the new content and better graphic.

    Kaim, Sony said they will not charge you to play online. They never said they wouldn't let developers charge you. On PS2, some games you had to pay for to play online individually by developer. Ever think of that? Sony has a track record a mile long of stretching the truth and outright lying. We will see how truly "free" their service is when it comes out. Till then, I wouldn't trust the promises of Sony. Remember that they promised their PS3 would have 7 controllers support (only supports 4), 2 ethernet ports and one Gigabit-Ethernet port (only has 1 standard ethernet port), HDMI output-standard (which it isnt in the lower cost variety). And if they could keep thier promises, the PS3 would have been released already last spring....Should I go on?

    9.1 rated game? now with new content. Should be ok. Another 9 game for Sony cant hurt.

    How come 360 did not go this way? Well they followed Sony to GTA and Unreal, So maybe they will by the time I write this lol. Good news is it should be a pretty easy engine for the PS3 to pull off. Heck the 360 should of been able to even do this one. But I think were gonna see a lot of games that don't really push the PS3 at all at first. Or really even use some of its components yet. Oh look I just read it and they have a 360 version lol.

    This message is replying to all people who say the 360’s graphics for fear look better. Here’s what I have to say. Search for fear. Choose the 360 version. Look at the 1’st 5 pics. They are exactly the same as the ps3‘s!

    a mouse is only better for a FPS if that is what you prefer. A controller is only lessened by lack of control settings like Southpaw, Legacy, Invert, etc. If I have legacy settings, I am way better on a controller, cause that is what I prefer.

    this game is good launch game for the ps3 but its a port most of the time you want console games to start launch.

    Someone earlier called someone a liar for having played the 360 demo of FEAR. HE WASNT LYING OXM issue 62/ October 06 HAS IT!!! YES IT IS OUT NOW: Has a black Saints Row ad on the cover and the real cover has Tony Hawk Project 8. So next time, dont doubt someone when they say they have played it, just because you haven't heard it was out.

    Now everyone is going off on how much better the PC version is. TI say that is crap. I spent $500 bucks on an NVidia 9700 BFG OC Ultra with 512 MB of GDDR3 RAM. That was $500 boys and girls. For the video card ALONE. That does not include the AMD 4200 X2 or the 2 Gigs of DDR RAM.

    So, at $500 for a very good video card or $600 for a complete system in the PS3. The PS3 does not have more RAM than I do, but it has better RAM, being XDR and GDDR3 for the system memory. The Cell rips any Intel or AMD chip a new one, so dont even argue on that one, because it is laughable. And the RSX video card they are putting in PS3 is BETTER than the NVidia 9700 BFG OC card.

    What again is the better value? Uh, I guess I rest my case.....

    BTW, I use my system for Maya homework, not just games, so that is why i spent $1800 on my rig.

    Well it's good to hear that the game will be comming for the PS3. I have the PC version of the gamem and it was great, so I think it should be fair for the future PS3 owners to have the chance to play this great game. But by the looks of the screenshots, they should try to fine tune the graphics. I mean it doesn't look bad or anything but with the PS3's hardware, it should be able to handle better graphics than are shown in the screenshots.

    Ha! Looks horrible. After a dissapointing conference at E3 and now the evidence of not-so-better graphics, PS3 is gonna suck a big one.

    Yeah PC version is the best. PS3 controller is not that gud for FPS... But Xbox controller is awesome for FPS... I dont think P$3 version ROKZ

    impreza - the 360 analog is milestones better then any analog on a sony controller, although i have no idea why they don't just steal a decent analog from another company as they seem more then capable. And i'm a little confused on what 'exclusives' you are referring to that microsoft lost. You say we lost exclusives to FEAR, but that was out on PC before 360 so that was never exclusive. What other "exclusives" are you referring to? Oblivion? That was never exclusive, GRAW? That was never exclusive. Microsoft has learned from Sony that exclusives make alot more enemies then they do friends.

    Yup, the Xbox360 controller will always be superior to the PS2/PS3 (they're basically the same!) controller for FPSs because of the analog stick placement. That is fact known to everyone but PS3 Fanboys.

    Honestly, did the PS2 have any good FPSs? Certainly nothing on par with Halo2.

    I have a 360 and my PS3 is on order. I don't care about trivial console rivalry.
    I will probably get this on the PS3 platform. The point is I'm really looking forward to having a few Beer's whilst engaging in some violent killing within this game !!!

    Learn how to search and read all the previews from ign,gamespot or whatever gamesite and developers interview videos, you will find all you're facts wrong.

Do you have any idea how much that would cost the studio? FOR A PORT! They altered the code to work for the 360 but no way did they start from nothing just for a port.

    Hahahaha don't make me lol, have you ever heard of doom 3,half-life 2 just to name a few titles where they started from scratch for xbox version.

    Xbox 360 inferior to a highend pc,hahha don't make me lol again, for a wanna be programmer it looks like you don't know nothing about computer hardware, cause if you did, you know the xbox 360 chipset it's codename is Xenos which it's cousin is a R600 ati card that's not even out yet.

    And don't even try to call me a denial fanboy, cause if you look in my info you'll know that im also more of a pc gamer then consoles and by the looks of it i know more about hardware then you but then again whats the point ?

    Now this might just be me but I could never get on with the Playstation controllers. I think using both sticks is ultra uncomfortable and find it hard to be all that accurate. The Gamecube and Xbox pads I found, were much better for these sorts of games cause the left stick is higher and alot more comfortable. For me, the PS3 pad is the biggest disapointment of the next gen consoles. I like the way they added triggers to the pads but the overall lack of innovation on the pad really sucks so I think all FPS will be best played on 360 and PC. I'm hoping they will release those pad convertor thingies so you can use xbox pads on the Playstation and vice versa like they did with the current consoles.

    As a programmer myself this is how it works. You take what you started with and alter it to work on other systems using the best version as the "trunk".

    How is it better? all controlers are basicly the same for fps k/m will always own it. Looks like the 360 has lost another exclusive but it don't realy care since it have it on pc.
