Company of Heroes golden

THQ's WWII PC RTS marches off to the factory, set to ship on September 14.

The fall game-release deluge is now one step closer to beginning. Today THQ's Company of Heroes became the first major game with a September release date to go gold. Rated M for Mature, the game is now on track to ship on September 14 for the PC for the suggested retail price of $49.99.

Developed by Relic Entertainment (Homeworld, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War), Company of Heroes is a real-time strategy title set in World War II's European theater. Its single-player campaign follows a company of US GIs as they press into Nazi-occupied Europe. The game's multiplayer mode will let up to eight players battle it out with a variety of weapons and vehicles as either the Axis or the Allies online or over a LAN connection.

Company of Heroes is powered by Relic's brand-new Essence Engine, which the studio has built from scratch. It features next-generation graphical effects, like high dynamic range lighting, normal mapping, dynamic lighting and shadows, and advanced shader effects. The game also uses Havok physics technology and sports totally destructible environments.

    The demo was a great PLUS in this 'summer-gamewaiting' period, and COH looks and feels fantastic, even though I am still playing on low-medium settings, due to my pc configs. For WW2 fans deff. a must play, for strategy fans also a great new concept, with all destructable terrain and buildings, opening up 'new' flanking opportunities
    And then, BIA3 (Hell's Highway) will hopefully get out early 2007 Now that's gonna look awesome....

    Relic's games are really awesome, but my GFX card won't be able to handle this game.

    The beta for this is amazing. Sure you keep getting dropped, but if you actually play a game, the game is amazing. The sound effects are perfect too. Graphically, you can't beat it. Gameplay at first it seems the scale is too large, but you get used to it.
    Can't wait!!

    It could be one of the best RTS to date really. And yeah relic is having some problems with their servers but those issues will get resolved before release. It's top priority now that the game is gold.

    I got the beta and played the tutorial, and I must say it's shaping up to be a fantastic game. However, when I tried to play the MP game, I kept getting drop out by relic online (their new online service). It'd be nice if I can actually log on and play, but I still think it'll be a terrific game and probably the best WWII RTS game ever made.

    I think golden simply means v1.0 is done and sent to factory for duplication. You still need to do all the packaging and shipping to retailers.

    Played the PC Gamer Demo as well as the MP Beta from FP, gotta say this game kicks copious amounts of ass.

    I played the beta too, its AMAZING !!!! not only the best wwII rts, but Im going as far to say the best RTS EVER !!!!!

    This is great, it will come out precisely when I will get my unblemished (spotless) desk-top from Best Buy, all-right. I can always look forward to a WWII, ETO (European Theater of Operations) era RTS. I remember when the RTS "101st Airborne: Screaming Eagles" came out. It was spectacular, but "Company of Heroes" is going to be better.

    Lmfao, you people who have high hopes for this game, go play beta. Yeah sure its good if you actually get into a game. However currently you can't even connect to the Relic server, let alone join a game. Truly beta was "great," as you sat in the chat lobby and talked about anything.

    Its great to see the game is done being made and soon we will be able to buy it. So this will be a good game to sink a ton of hours into. So that will always be nice.
