Prey answers call for patch, content

3D Realms working on patches for both PC, 360 versions; new content coming "soon" will add multiplayer maps and characters.

Owners of the PC and Xbox 360 versions of Prey will be able to beef up their games soon, according to 3D Realms, who oversaw development of the game. The company's Web site says that patches and new content are on the way "soon."

The PC patch will bump the game up to version 1.1 and tackle various bugs and crashing issues. A similar patch will also be released for the Xbox 360 version and "address network lag," as well as "fix several bugs." No time of release has been announced, but unconfirmed reports around the Internet say an update for the Xbox 360 edition was released today.

3D Realms also spilled the beans on new content for the game. The new content will feature four new multiplayer maps intended for matches with few combatants. Six new playable characters will also be added, including Jen, Elhuit, Mother, Becky, a Hunter, and an Elite Hunter. No price or release period has been announced for the new content.

Prey is rated M for Mature and retails for $49.99 on the PC and $59.99 on the Xbox 360. For more information on the game, read GameSpot's review.

i quite liked the single player in the demo
    but really disliked the multiplayer...
and if i get the game - due to the short single player that would only be at bargain price and no more spendy spendy!

    PAY for content updates?

So, you're telling me if I get a console I have to pay $10 more for a game that doesn't look as good as the pc version and I have to PAY to get upgrades that would be free on the PC?

And the benefit is I can get HALO games about 10 years sooner?

    uuuhhhh.....

Does anyone know what the patch the was released yesterday actually does?
The multiplayer is a joke. Still can't play online without getting lag.

still cant play split screen. A lot of us 21-30 years olds have large tv's and 4 controllers. how about someone makes a good FPS w/ split screen built in. COD2 will own for this, but it didnt come with the first shipped version...

Nice. New playable characters and new multiplayer maps sound nice. But fixing lag issues sounds better.

I agree that some new weapons would be nice. Not enough variety in the original weapons for me. Ever since Doom I'm a sucker for a good shotgun.

Within the first few days i had gat all 1000 achievements and i had traded in the game because of the bad lag in multiplayer!!
I would have kept the game if the patch came sooner!! When the patch comes i will buy the game again.
    BRING IT ON BABY!!

It's going to be interesting to watch the pricing strategy for the maps. This game has been in development for 10 years, so more than likely all these maps were just ones that didn't make the cut into the full game. Nobody is going to pay for those on the PC when you can get free content all day long. So do you release them for free on the PC while you charge on the 360?

Will it address the inability to LOSE at the single-player game? The whole immortality thing is really rather disappointing.
