US console charts: July 30-August 5
Nintendo's DS rules the top 10 again as gamers gear up for Madden's release; a few 360 titles sneak back on the list.
Given their domination of the sales charts over the last few months, it would seem that everyone already has a copy of New Super Mario Bros. and Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day for the Nintendo DS. But apparently that's very far from the truth. The two games, which were released in May and April, respectively, owned the top two spots on Best Buy's console game sales charts once again during the week of July 30 to August 5.
Their stay at the top is no doubt temporary, as Electronic Arts' Madden NFL 07 game is scheduled for release on August 22. But until then, Mario and Brain Age's closest competition is Madden's cousin, NCAA Football 07, which landed in third (Xbox 360), fourth (PlayStation 2), and 11th (PlayStation Portable).
A few other DS games also cracked the top 10, including another Mario vehicle (pun intended), Mario Kart DS, in the fifth spot and Trauma Center: Under the Knife in sixth. Bargain shoppers gobbled up the $14.99 Sprint Cars: Road to Knoxville for the PS2, and the PSP game Tekken: Dark Resurrection fell three spots to number eight.
Rounding out the top 10, the Xbox 360 showed it still has some punch with Fight Night Round 3 swinging away in ninth and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter shooting into 10th.
