Wii Prince of Persia confirmed

It's official: Ubisoft is bringing its popular franchise to Nintendo's next-gen console; release date still unknown.

Last week, a version of a Ubisoft press release on a French gaming site indicated that the publisher's Prince of Persia franchise was headed for the Wii in March of 2007. This week, a Ubisoft representative confirmed for GameSpot that the time-twisting series will indeed grace Nintendo's new console, but she couldn't say exactly when.

"A game based on Ubisoft's popular Prince of Persia franchise is currently in development for the Wii," the rep said. "At this time we don't have any additional information on the game or when it will be coming out, but we'll let you know as soon as we do."

Ubisoft has shown a considerable amount of support for the Wii already. For instance, the original news of the aforementioned press release was that the publisher would have seven games available for the Nintendo system at launch. In addition to the already announced Rayman and Red Steel, Ubi pledged to have Wii versions of Blazing Angels, Far Cry, Open Season, and more ready for launch day. This also makes the Wii the only next-gen system confirmed to play host to a Prince of Persia title.

    nice i thought that The Two Thrones was ganna be the last game for the Prince of Persia. I hope that Assasins Creed will come out for wii too since the people who made PoP made Assasins Creed.

    Great to see PoP headed for the Wii. And why are SOME people saying that PoP is Nintendo's game? I remember it originating on the PC. Anyways, It will be intersting to see how the controls are mapped. Knowing Ubisofts apparent dedication to the Wii, (as apposed to other third-partys) It should be interesting.

    I'm not so sure about this idea, I played through and beat the third game and it tied directly to the first game ie. He's telling whatsherface the whole story aka.the very beginning of PoP 1: the sands of time. not to mention I remember distinctly that once you beat the game the sands of time fade away or some such rubbish.

    YES, Ubisoft makes fantastic games and I loved the prince of persia trilogie that I played on the Gamecube. Now I just hope that this game will be half so good as the two thrones or warrior within and i'll deflinitely buy it

    it won't die out if only on the wii pastehunter! the wii will be the only console that makes any profits at all this gen! the other two are way bogged down in issues of glitches and prices, so ppl will get the wii anyway! pop will b sell excellently, especially if it's only on the wii!

    well it would be great if ubi would make a pop game on a pc , but i think it will be pop like on psp , extended sands of time trilogy ;]

    I hope it has a brand new storyline and I want it to be exclusive. I want it to use the wii functions and make it a brand new feel to the game. The reasons I want it to be exclusive because the other consoles couldn't have the same feeling as the Wii. If they bring it to the Xbox 360 then people would have fun just pressing the A button. Then they wil miss the point of the new controls. On top of that most exclusives for console usally = great game. I get all the consoles so I can play there own exclusives. I don't want it to have 3 parts, because I dont want to have to buy all 3 parts. I will say I did miss T2T, because I didn't feel like buying all the parts. I say keep it at 1, but if it sells good or you can't fit it all in one. Then make a second but please more then that. You are already making Assassin Creed and that will have 3 parts so you don't need another.

    Ubisoft is my favorite game company!!! I am the greatest fan of Prince of Persia!!! I just can't wait... Prince of Persia rules!!!

    sweet! ubisoft is my favorite develper. But anyways, a blend between normal gaming and this new motion sensing would be perfect, matbe i'll mow some more lawns and get a 360 and maybe even a ps3. But now i'm just blabbering. YAY1 PoP for wii!

    hurrah, another PoP!!!
    i love the fact that Ubi is going with the Wii, the control and the ability to make games cheaper and easier seems to really be going for it. I'm hoping more that this game will be Wii exclusive, even though i have plans to get a PS3 as well.

    Why are there people acting as if every game Ubi is making for Wii is a port? Since when are they incapable of creating brand new games? Do you guys realize how easy it is to make a game for the Wii? The tech is so similar to the GC that big-name companies like Ubisoft could easily push out a few new games in this time-span. Yes, there probably will be games from the Ubisoft (and other 3rd-party developers) that will merely be ports with the Wii controls added, but that doesn't mean all of them will be that way. Even at that, who says they can't be remakes? As it is now, Far Cry is confirmed to have a lot of new content for its title on Wii, and that's just one game.

    Just use your heads for a moment; they finished the Prince of Persia trilogy almost a year ago (by march 2007, it'll be even longer), why would they go back and do a port of just one of the three games? It makes so sense. Also, PoP Wii is exactly that, only confirmed to be on Wii as of now. Why would they waste their time making a port for just one system, a system that is quite graphically inferior to the competition? Ubisoft didn't shun any platform last generation, they made Prince of Persia for all of them, it would look odd to make a port for just one console.

    Well... Assassin's Creed looks like a much better and cooler version of PoP anyway- that series is getting old. And how would the controls work?

    If this game is just "based" on the PoP series, does that mean that it will simply be a spin off and not a proper adventure game?

    A bit like how Tony Hawks Downhill Jam isn't exactly a proper skating game, like Tony Hawks Project 8.

    I dont understand why the sheep are getting all overly excited by this...

    Yet another example of nintendo getting something not very new or innovative and their fanboys eating it up right after they just left SW's bashing 360 and ps3 for no tbeing innovative enough. Yet the 360 and ps3 are getting way more new franchises, not just rehashed of game we already know that are being twisted to fit with the remote controller.

    Oh yeagh, how is this new? I thought eveyone knew this already?

    There is no question about it.

    Wii is the console to get for christmas. And if PoP will be an exclusive in some kind of way it will play a huge difference. Wii is now confirmed to side with 2 of Ubisoft biggest franchises.
