Gundam to storm PS3 this year

Namco Bandai's giant mech series gets a 2006 debut date on Sony's next-gen console, still needs a final name.

It turns out that Mobile Ops: The One Year War on the Xbox 360 won't be the only Gundam game hitting stores this holiday season. Namco Bandai has confirmed a 2006 release for Mobile Suit Gundam (working title) for the PlayStation 3, which is also set around the series' One Year War.

However, while the Xbox 360 game lets players hit the battlefield in control of a single soldier on the battlefield as well as engage in Mobile Suit mayhem, the PS3 game appears to be larger scale. Beyond the requisite super-heavyweight rock-'em, sock-'em rumbles, the PS3 Mobile Suit game will put players in command of an entire battalion of the titular mechs. On a more intimate level, players can target various parts on specific enemy Mobile Suits, an ability that will play into the tactical aspects of the game.

I played about 6 games at TGS. This is probably the worst along with Coded Arms Assault. The targeting was slow and tedious, using the laser sword was virtually impossible. If you struck the enemy it was luck not skill. Manouvering was also tedious and unweildly. The graphics were impressive, but the vast panoramas were life-less. Very dissappointing. I suspect some of the other mails to be plants by you-know-who...

You people need to keep your posts short. You should not flatter yourselves into thinking somebody wants to read all the taint you fanboys wanna post into these forums. ANyways what's the big deal if ps3 is more powerful than 360? Really who cares? Did it matter when ps2 was alot weaker than the others? No! It still stomped b/c it had games!! I don't care if ps3 is virtual reality, if it does not have the same great library as it did last-gen then I'll be a very upset ps3 owner.

FINALLY! A semi-realistic Gundam game! All of the newer ones are just arcade-style and childish. The only Gundam show that was childish was the first one. Don't get me wrong, I love the original gundam series, and it wasn't even that childish. Later series, such as 8th MS team, looked a hell of alot better, were more mature, and had mobile suits that moved like mobile suits and not the MegaZord or some crap like that. Personally, I dislike games where its up to one person to save the whole damn universe (except Halo, of course). I like the idea of commanding a group, because even the Gundam isn't invincible. Destructible terrain and mobile suit parts are definitely a good thing for this game. What I am hoping for is being able to dock on your mobile carrier or home base or something to rearm/repair, instead of having to beat the whole mission with one "life" as in Encounters in Space (very arcade-like). I would also like to be able to choose my mobile suit and its equipment, and maybe even its color scheme, as in Zeonic Front. Also, the ability to capture enemy mobile suits would be cool. Ultimately, I hope the game isn't too linear. I know how the OYW goes, and I'm sick of reliving the main plot. As for the Xbox game, I'm glad its an fps because Xbox controllers are better designed for it. And as for which one looks better? I will play a good game no matter how bad it looks. I play SD Gundam Generations for SNES all the time and I can't even read Japanese!

I have yet to see PS3 game play footage that is better then the 360. Not to say it isn't more powerfull, but I just haven't seen it. All I have seen is the MGS4 trailer and I don't think it's any more impressive then the Gears of War trailer on Xbox Live which is pretty amazing. The Rainbow Six Vegas trailer on the 360 looks almost 100% photo realistic as the MGS4 trailer did.

Sony say's the cell processor is this and that but guess what ? They said that about the emotion engine too.

I'll believe it when I see it.

"FANTASY LAB clearly stated that x360 was as powerful as mid-ranged pc but the ps3 was much more powerful than a HIGH-END pc."

*Laughs.* ... *Tries to get serious, laughs again.*

"xbox 360 & the wii need not apply !"

Funny, funny guys. And as for the people that prefer to play games rather than gawk at the shiny things in them?..

It looks good, but I've never really enjoyed the Gundam games. Maybe this one'll be different.

ps3 is atleast 2x as powerful as the xbox 360(theoretically)
but that margin gets wayyyyyy bigger in some circumstances......FANTASY LAB clearly stated that x360 was as powerful as mid-ranged pc but the ps3 was much more powerful than a HIGH-END pc.

The CELL processor beats any processor including XENON by a minimum margin of 5x in terms of DP calculation but 10x in terms of SP calculations...........there is no denying this.........that margin exceeds to as much as 80 in STENCIL,TRE etc.

read bandai's interview.............they clearly stated that group manipuation in GUNDAM was possible solely due to power of the ps3....they also said that they have achieved near CG quality ingame details as well.
x360 cant handle such features due to power limitations............as simple as that

Okay, so now Gundam is the benchmark game used to determine which console is superior? Huh? The article is very misleading saying "PS3 game appears to be larger scale". Alot of people are thinking that means the PS3 game is superior. The 360 version seems to be more close up combat and the PS3 seems to be a RTS. Graphically thats like comparing Fight Night Round 3 to LoTR.

And all these people talking about Cell processor is stupid since it has nothing to do with the graphics. And the size of Blu-Ray have nothing to do with how much detail and textures you see on screen. The PS3 is limited to 256MB of video RAM. If 360 developers wanted they could create a scene that requires minimal physics and A.I. and dedicate 400MB of memory to just raw graphical usage. At it's heart the PS3 may boast bigger numbers but the design is flawed. LOL the Dreamcast had more video RAM than the PS2 thats why it had more detailed textures on screen.

God, I hate it when fanboys talk! Who are all of you kidding? Everyone knows that the Wii will completely destroy any and all other competition.

Okay, but seriously. Fact is, both Xbox 360 and PS3 have their strong points.

Fact: PS3 is much more powerful than the Xbox 360. Please, people, take some time to look the specs up before you open your mouth.

This does not mean: All PS3 games will be better than Xbox 360 games.

Fact: Xbox 360 is easier to develop for.

This does not mean: All developers will choose Xbox 360. Just because one guy says Xbox 360 is easier to develop for, that doesn't mean everyone else will follow. Some will want easier development. Others will want more power.

Fact: Xbox 360 has a great online service.

This does not mean: PS3 online will not be good. No one will know that until it's up and running.

Fact: PS3 has more "big-name" developers.

This does not mean: There won't be as many good games on Xbox 360. Come on, they have Halo....and other good ones...

Where Xbox 360 fails miserably: Backward Compatibility
    Where PS3 fails miserably: Price

All I know is that I'm getting the Wii before the rest, and my decision was based on price AND backward compatibility. I'll get the others in due time. Hopefully Nintendo will do well enough to stay in the game, but I'm not expecting them to win.

ok im gonna finalise this "power struggle" once and for all in plain english.

power ranges 1 being the higest 3 being the lowest

    1.ps3
    2.x box 360
    3.wii

ok now im not a sony fanboy i profer nintendo and microstoft myself but i still play a lot of playstation games either way (i think i have about 35 ps2 games , 40 gamecube games and 20 x box games)

ok so there won't be much difference in power between the ps3 and 360 the ps3 will have more content in its games thanks to its blue ray disk but that wont effect graphics too much at one time and will only give developers more storage ( in idiot terms it gives them a bigger box to pack things into).

so the graphics of the ps3 will be better and games will have a bit more content but the 360 's graphical difference wont be very drastic. The three sixty , on the other hand, has an already amazing online service that microsoft has made easily accessible allowing demo downloads and very easy player cross player interface. This shows that microsoft has the online aspect controled, which shows that the 360 online will be better that the ps3's upcoming sirvice.

as for the wii its obvius that graphics wont be in the same league as its compettitors, but you all know that nintendos policy of graphics dont make the game. Just to all nintendo fans i'm not saying that the graphics won't be good because if you just look at red steel or super mario galaxy (wich i may say looks a little blocky, but it is in mid development to be fair). So the graphics will be good just not as good as the others, but wha can you expect from such a small console. You may or may not know that if you stack three standard dvd cases together thats the estimated size of thw wii.
Nintendo just doesn't want to make a console they are trying to re-define the industry and create a new way to play. This is rather obvious unless youve been under a rock for the past 6 months , they've created a whole new user interface, a whole new concept of online and even one of backwards compatability.

we all argue about power and graphics and games but when you look at it you can never really upgrade a console as much as a pc. I know that sony is talking about console customisation so you can baisically you can biuld a console with whatever you want in it but you cold never give it the power of a pc.

Finally looking toward the future "next" next gen you can be assured that the consoles will be more simillar tan ever in power graphics and games as each company is going to draw ideas from eachother. in the end there will be one stallion of a console that is a hybrid of every idea that each company that hs come up with so just stop arguing ! enjoy the games and just be freindly to eachother and not be hostile to what people like before it goes to far, its almost getting to the point racism and predjudice!

I'm tired of Microsoft fanboys deluding themselves that the 360 is just as powerful as the PS3. Lets put it this way. The cell proccessor is the most powerful console proccessor on earth. (PS3 = Cell / Xbox 360 = No cell)
Yes I have a 360 and i admit it is a GREAT console with GREAT online capability that PS3 probably won't even touch. But when these fanboys try to kid themselves that the Xbox will have BETTER games (because the titles on the origional xbox REALLY matched the PS2's titles) It really makes my blood boil.
This games will look great on both consoles but ultimately if you own a 360 and not a PS3 don't delude yourself into beleiving that the 360 version
will definately be better under any circumstances..

    P.S. I agree. ZOE3 must come for ps3

I'll believe it when I see it. Sony is soo full of themselves and the PS3 is soo over blown and hyped. MS actually listened to the fans and made what we wanted along with the ability to make changes through xbox live. I don't even like MS but the 360 is a hardcore gamers dream come true as far as consoles go.

Set aside the supposed " power " differences and the stupid next gen DVD war. The 360 seems allot more versatile and customizable.

Oh....and Gundam is just another mech game that gets old in an hour.

i'm tired of the sony fanboys saying that the ps3 is more powerful then the 360 when in fact all the independent electronic magazines said that they are equal in power, hell even the psm said that at the ps3 peak power the grasphics is about a 5% difference theen the 360 wich means you want be able to tell the difference. The only people that say the ps3 is more powerful is the sony fanboys and sony themself.
I guess the sont famboys forgot that sony lied to us about the ps2,if they forgot i will remind them, before the ps2 came out sony showed us footages of games and said it was gameplay but when they released thr ps2 and its games it wasn't even close to what they showed us,and come to find out it was prerendered and sony knew it and lied to us and said it was game play, and to this day the graphics never got close to what they showed us.
before all the fanboys lie to all the people that don't know the difference in tecnology, they need to look up the specs on both systems and read all the independent electronin magazines instead of the sony mags because all sony do is lie to the people to get them to buy a ps3.
The ps3 will sell out at launch because of the sony fanboys but after they buy the ps3 then it will have a hard time to sell a system.I have some friends and like me they was going to buy a ps3 untill they seen the price, then like me they bought the 360 and they love it and the rest are buying their kids a 360 instead of a ps3 even if their kids wont a ps3 because know one will spend an extra $200 for the ps3 when you can get the same graphics, gameplay, and better games on the 360 for $200 cheaper, and no one will pay $600 for a system and in a year in a half you will have to buy another one because i bought 3 ps2 in 5 years and some of my friends had to buy even more some bought 5 of them and that's why sony sold so many ps2m

You all make me laugh...it's not about power, it's about money and to that end results.

In fact take a little look at history...anything that came out before it's time has failed. I'm not saying the PS3 is that, just development is ultimately more important than power. Look at GoW for the PS2...compare it to what a first generation title for the PS2 was like.

Time improves tools improves development improves games. If you can hold onto that wave you will go a long way towards wining. If you ignore it you'll get crushed.

    --Aegis--
Try not to be a 'tard. That is like saying once the original Xbox was released there would be no PS2 games that could compete with it.

It's a known fact by now that the 360 is an easier system to develop for than the PS3. John Carmack is one of those folks who wants people to favour the 360 simply because of this. That's great from a developer's point of view.

However, it's also a known fact that the PS3 is a more powerful system than the 360. The RSX GPU is atleast one generation ahead of the 360's, and the cell processor, although more complex to program for, is also capable of a lot more than the 360's in the hands of skilled devs.

In the end, you know that talented devs will take full advantage of the PS3's horsepower and make great games. And you can bet that those games will be better than anything the 360 can dish out.

Direct Quote from John Carmack Dated 2006-01-04

JC: They are both powerful systems that are going to make excellent game platforms, but I have a bit of a preference for the 360’s symmetric CPU architecture and excellent development tools. The PS3 will have a bit more peak power, but it will be easier to exploit the available power on the 360. Our next major title is being focused towards simultaneous release on 360, PS3, and PC.

I am well aware of the Armored Core series and the Gundam anime. The one Gundam game I did own for the PS2 didn't exactly knock my socks off so I gave it to my brother. The Gundam series is so expansive that it wouldn't hurt for them to make a game where you could use the parts and technology of the series to make something original. A perfect way to showcase the power of a next gen console.

I am an Xbox Junky however I will admit that the chances are the PS3 is more powerful than the 360.I frankly do not care because it is all going to boil down to the games that the systems offer. BluRay is nice, however it isn't a major advantage because the only difference would be if the same title came to the PS3 and 360 and it was fully loaded with content. The PS3 version may have one disc and the 360 may have 3. But the contents of the cd's are identical. That isn't that big of an advantage to me personally speaking. It is going to take A LOT to fill a 360 game cd. Hell Oblivion is huge and yet it still was only on one disc. I personally have plans on owning both systems. The entire war on which system is better I am not going to concern myself with because both systems are offering really great games. I personally choose 360 over PS3 because currently it has more titles that I am going to enjoy more than the PS3 is currently offering but that very well might change. The PS3 still is offering enough titles in the future for me to be planning to buy the console.

I could be wrong but from the sounds of it Mobile Suit Gundam seems more like an RTS. And as was stated by Peanutman, how is the PS3 version of MSG more superior? Is it because Bandai can cram more game onto one disc thus making the game seem bigger and longer?
