Stranglehold pushed back to 2007

Woo fans choked up as Midway's action game loses its grip on original release schedule.

Last month, the Retail Radar covered a possible delay in Midway's premiere next-gen title for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, Stranglehold. Online retailer GameStop suggested that the game sequel to John Woo and Chow Yun-Fat's classic action flick Hard-Boiled wouldn't be arriving until February 15, 2007. At the time, a Midway rep told GameSpot that the company was still aiming for "a fall or holiday 2006" release for Stranglehold on all three platforms.

It turns out Midway's aim was off the mark. The company has confirmed that Stranglehold has indeed been delayed. However, the mid-February date GameStop posited was a little too specific, as Midway is only saying that it will be out in the first quarter of 2007.

    Looks like I will buy a PS3 just to fix my eye on it... and keep staring at it.. and... just it!!!
    where is the games??
    every game is pushed to 2007..
    I think my PS3 will have Final Fantasy XII at this holiday season

    Okay by me.

    Any delay of game only means that they are attempting to make the game as best as possible. Alrighies by me for noticing that BEFORE the holiday season.

    Stranglehold is going to kick ass no matter what because even if it gets delayed, it wont be an issue i would wait another year if i had to, just so i can play another game from the developer of PsiOPS

    Delays are not dissappointing if it means that the games will come out right unlike e.g. Call of Duty 2 and it´s horrible online mode before it got fixed.

    ok now what now what is come to ps3 at launch no smack down,no unreal 2007 and no stranglehold.
    all thats left is a desert flying game(warhawk) and ea ports of the same game ever year and when you rely on ea there is truely something wrong.

    I don't want rushed titles at launch. Getting a polished game 6 months later is ALWAYS better. As long as Resistance, Rainbow Six Vegas and Madden are available at launch, I'm fine.

    I hear you guys. Looks like the PS3 showed a lot of foresight by having WORKING backwards compatibility because the launch lineup is looking slimmer and slimmer.

    So what games are still comfirmed for PS3 luanch now? No Unreal 2007 or Stranglehold, now they have like Warhawk and Madden 07 and that's it. Not gonna match up to the Wii's best console launch ever line-up.

    I'm kind of glad. I had been looking forward to this game, but at E3 the videos looked more like the kind of generic 10-hour action game that you buy, play through once, and wish you had rented. The delay makes me think they actually care about the game, which means it could turn out to be better than I hoped.

    I think alot of release dates have been a little off schedule. Too Human in 2006, I don't think so. Good games require alot of development time, and I say to all game creators, take your time. I'd rather be playing a very good game six months later then a good game six months earlier.

    Well if it turns out to be a good game the wait won't be a bad thing, and the release calender is crowded enough at the end of this year as it is.
