EA plays another six with PGA

Publisher of Tiger Woods PGA Tour games extends partnership with pro golf tour; deal extends through 2012.

As anyone who plays 18 weekly with friends can tell you, the bond between golfing buddies is almost familial. So, too, it appears, is the bond on the virtual golf course. Electronic Arts and the PGA Tour today announced that they have extended their licensing deal an additional six years.

Electronic Arts, publisher of the popular Tiger Woods PGA Tour golf games, has been making PGA Tour-licensed games for the last 15 years. Today's deal extends the contract through 2012.

"The PGA Tour is excited to continue our relationship with EA," said Ed Moorhouse, PGA Tour executive vice president. "Our video game provides a great entry into golf for kids and allows our brand to reach multiple generations throughout the world."

It appears that Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2012 is almost a certainty. Earlier this year, EA also extended its licensing agreement with golfer Tiger Woods an additional six years.

EA is publishing Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 this October for the Xbox 360, Xbox, PlayStation 2, PSP, and PC. PlayStation 3 and Wii Tiger Woods PGA Tour games are also in development. For more on the 07 edition, head over to GameSpot's previous coverage.

Hopefully this will be better than '06, as that game didn't really work for me like '02-'05.

Yes! EA take them all! Now to sneak into 2K Sports studios and steal the MLB lisence. EA makes the best sports sims, no question about it. At least now they do, the early NFL 2Ks were some of the best games ever.

For the wii controls, would be pretty cool, you can practice at home and not leave your house, thats cool, plus i always wanted to be tiger woods, and as the wii comes out, thats my chance,. Good thing the deal is still on cause Ea is very good.

I'm glad they kept that license. They should get their MLB license back from Take-Two so they can keep that super sweet franchise going as well. Wishful thinking...

Nobody does golf like EA...I have no problem with the exclusive on this one. Here's to hoping, however, that the difficulty level is ramped up a little in future editions...as someone who played a lot of TW '05, that game was so forgiving that a 46 was an attainable score on some of the easier courses and even the killers were still breakable at 60.

I like ea's tiger, don't get me wrong, but they need to stop giving license to EA for multiple years. They've shown that they get lazy with their successes, and these deals just give them license (literally).

lets hoep the next t woods doesnt suck like the last one.... come on, 2 courses arent enough to keep me interetsed.... and fix the 'play some online' achievement someday!@

granted, this is one of the few franchises that EA has that noone can touch yet. or at least noone has shown that they can even come close....

Hotshots golf? that game was garbage.
