Call of Juarez gets demo

Answer the Call of Juarez with the new 548.6MB single-player demo of the FPS based on America's Wild, Wild West.

Gamers looking to try out something that isn't the latest PC first-person shooter based on a science-fiction or military setting may want to inspect today's demo for Ubisoft's Call of Juarez, which is set during America's Wild West era. Powered by developer Techland's Chrome engine, Call of Juarez straps players into the role of not one but two Americans--named Reverend Ray and Billy--living during the country's ruthless time period, where they battle outlaws with trusty six-shooters until sundown. The 548.6MB single-player demo features one-level play-throughs with both characters. For information on Call of Juarez, check out GameSpot's previous hands-on coverage or download the demo.

I've just installed the demo and as soon as the game starts my character continuously spins slowly to the right. Has anyone else had this glitch. The mouse is able to move the character in all directions ok, but as soon as the mouse is at rest, the character spins to the right. Any ideas for a fix please people.

Man I feel like a noob All settings seem to be on low when you start the game te first time. Actually the game looks great and it runs smoothly on my mid system.

The screen shots look great, why can't I find these graphics in the demo? Maybe this demo was released to early. There's a lot of work left for these Poland dudes. Hope they'll fix it, I was looking forward to playing this game.

When the first level started (the first time ) it had quite a bit of hitching not to mention the ungodly long load time , but after playing it for a awhile the hitching went away and the load times were average load time speed instead of being too slow. im using a 7800 gt, 1 gig of ddr2 ram, and a intel p4 650 3.4ghz ht cpu

Ok, something is wrong with the demo. I have an Athlon FX-55 (San Diego) 1gb of hyper x ram and two 7800 GTX's in SLI and it is choppy as hell once I walk up to the buildings when it starts.

To the one dude (who I'm sure has found it by now): the saddle is inside the farmer's house on ground level. If you mess-up, it gets replaced upstairs.

it's a decent looking game with all the settings on high, but nothing spectacular enough to explain the horrible performance ppl are reporting on mid-high hardware.
on a scale of antiquated-low-mid-high-cutting edge, i'd put my system around high and i got playable rates with all settings on high -aa. barely.
but like i said, it's not THAT good looking to warrant such sketchy performance. hopefully the final version is considerably better looking or more smooth.

Great Game, adds a new and well needed change to first person shooters. To say its like a game from 10yrs ago is daft thing to say. BUT I do see legatoistheman point. The graphics and game play felt very much like Chronicles of Riddick BB or Doom. These games are good, but games have moved on alot in the last 2yrs. I did enjoy the demo but it does need a lot of work to make it a truley great game and not a game that feels like a firecracker with no fire. One last thing, if your computer can't play a game its time to get a new g card or system etc. Theres a lot of new technology coming out now and every PC owner knows the risks of owning a PC and how fast things change, if you don't like it get an Xbox and stop crying.

awesome. I love the Shadowing, it's the most detailed ive seen in a game to date. Cool rope physics on whips are a nice little effect too =)

my two 7800 gtx's running in sli and my two 2.4 gig opterons should make this look spectacular but it looks like a game from 10 years ago.. wtf? Polish developers need to get it right before putting out a crappy demo product.

This game has pretty pathetic graphics, I was expecting something with graphics at least as good as maybe halflife, these didn't come even close to cutting it. I found the controls rather bad too, I was trying to shoot my guns multiple times and ended up holstering them, etc.

first of all im using download accelrator combined with GS downloads is awesome...
second, i get a pretty great framerate only if i lower or turn off the shadows while cranking everything up to the max, JAX!!!
    third, pretty sweet demo story...
4th the loading time between game is a real b***h...

I'm stuck with 115 kb/s on any file from any server. Not by any fault of my own, my whole neighbourhood has some kind of connection problem that limits connection speeds. I'm actually paying for a high speed connection, but I'm only getting a fifth of it.

I hate the bullet time stuff. It's a pain to do that, then have to reholster your guns so you can activate it again. And what's the bible for? I've got a pretty beefy setup, but I had to kick everything down to medium for the framerate to be acceptable. I like the setting and atmosphere though. I just wish you could spit chewing tobacco on stray dogs, a la Josie Wales.

Sites that offer free downloads are crap 99 times out of 100. Maybe 100 times out of 100. The old saying 'You get what you pay for" rings true.

    Posted Jul 28, 2006 8:28 pm PT

It's not gamespot's download speed, it's your connection that sucks. I download files from gamespot at a steady 680kb/s.

Edit: Im assuming you're a subscriber. If your not then forget what I said.

Nobody's going to download a 550 MB file from GameSpot, and their famous 2 kb/s downloads.

I'll just go over to FileFront and get 500 kb/s downloads for free.
