Scarface says hello to PSP, adios to 360

Vivendi Games confirms the world is not yours on Xbox 360, lines up portable version of drug kingpin adventure--first screens inside.

Tony Montana, the antihero of Brian De Palma's Scarface, never settled for just a piece of the pie. He wanted the filling, the crust, the tin, and the whole bakery in his quest to dominate the Miami drug trade.

Now it seems as though Montana's digital counterpart is also expanding his empire. Vivendi Games today announced that Scarface is headed to the PSP in early October. However, it will be an entirely different game from its console counterparts.

Titled Scarface: Power. Money. Respect., the game will combine turn-based strategy with real-time combat. Would-be kingpins will try to take over the drug trade in 1983 Miami by eliminating rival cartels turf by turf. The game will have two main modes--a story-driven single-player mode and a wireless multiplayer mode that supports up to four crime lords.

While Scarface has spread out onto the PSP, it appears that another crime family from the entertainment business has taken over the turf war on the Xbox 360. After a prolonged period of confusion surrounding Scarface: The World is Yours' appearance on next-gen systems (a 360 version of the game was confirmed in May 2005, but has since fallen off of online retailer lists), a Vivendi Games rep confirmed to GameSpot that the game is not headed to the Xbox 360.

Just yesterday, THQ announced that the Xbox 360 version of The Sopranos was no longer in the works. With both The Sopranos and Scarface out of the next-gen picture, Electronic Arts' The Godfather remains the only option for TV/movie-inspired crime-family drama on the Xbox 360.

Scarface: The World is Yours is scheduled for release on the PC, PlayStation 2, and the Xbox in early October.

    Twisted_Outlaw I agree!!

I also reckon that Scarface will come to the 360, purely because they have released themes and gamer pictures.
I hope they do as I'll be buying!

stupid PS3 and GTA fan boys. i dont know why but i believe this game is coming to the 360 considering they just released gamerpics for this game and a theme. i downloaded both of them bc im a huge fan of the movie. it was actually a decent game on xbox, and saints row is better and more action packed than any of the GTAs. only downside to saints row is they didnt have enough time to put in bikes and planes and stuff, but hey! thats what sequels are for.

Just when Xflop 360 loses a title it becomes a "crappy" game to its fanboys. Well I'm gonna check this out even though God Father is what I'm really digging!

This is excellent news. EXECELLENT NEWS.

No Scarface, no Sopranos. I was hoping that the Godfather would also join this list in the developer's graveyard.

We all know these games are going to rotten and I wasn't looking forward to another game that would be classified as another "Port Box" title.

Bring on the new IPs. Bring on Saints Row and 2 Days to Vegas. Bring on The Outsider. I know some of you have never even heard of the Outsider. Do yourself a favor and follow this link-

There are better things coming on the horizon than GTA and these other gangster redux'. Losing Scarface is no biggie.

I suppose scrapping the 360 version in favor of a vastly inferior PSP version is a good idea huh? Seeing as the PSP is just doing super.

I agree with most people on the fact that this doesn't effect 360 sales at all. I imagine both games with receive at most a 7.5 if that on the gamespot ratings. As far as games go, I think Gears of War and Saint's Row are more of a concern for just about all 360 owners. As for game_masta14, you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. MS losing two low profile games doesn't even compare with Sony's marketing blunders in the past year. How can you even say that this story reflects a Sony comeback. Obviously the game isn't going to the PS3 either. So if this game was actually on your PS3 list I'm sorry to break the news to you.

For a side note, Vivendi was part of the critically acclaimed Escape from Butcher Bay game on Xbox.

ok well this game will probably be mediocre anyways since Vivindei never makes great games..and well come on the PSP? Are u serious..that thing is a piecve of garbage thats not even really popular..in america its alright but in japan no one likes it and the DS is wayyy better...PSP is just a cheap knock off of multimedia stuff..which is wut sells it since its games are trash...but oh well...the 360 still has amazing games witout Scarface which will more then likely be mediocre at best.

Not a game I was gettign for 360 - weird that these games are being dropped so late in the "game". The Scarface/Sopranos hit is not as big as Smackdown not appearing until 07 on PS3 though.

Maybe MS doesn't want to bother wasting their money on a game that wont be worth their money,And maybe, just maybe Sony gave money to the publisher to make this game exclusive for the PSP,thus making sony Fanboys think that Microsoft is going down.Nice try Fony,I mean Sony,I saw through your plan I'm not stupid,I knew what you were up to.

What's wrong with arguing about which console is better? I have read almost all the forums and dat seems like the point. Of course you're going to buy the one you like/can afford in the end but in the meanwhile its fun...especially when you don't join in like me and get to laugh at the more idiotic and rabid fanboys.

  • UrbanMessiah

    Posted Jul 28, 2006 5:39 pm PT

I dunno...If I was a betting man, and I am...I'd wager THQ and Vevendi have looked at their Sopranos and Scarface games and decided it wasn't worth the time, money or effort ro release a next gen version of those games, but rather this gen only. I mean, why bother to release games that don't look next gen and have people leave it on the shelf when much better looking and probably better playing games are coming up to compete with them? Honestly, I'm surprised EA doesn't follow suit with the Godfather...

Its a smart move to cancel the Xbox 360 version of the games just like its a smart move to not even announce them for the PS3 or Wii. Those two games don't look next gen and its cheaper and wiser to release them on this gen systems and let backwards compatible suffice for people with only next gen systems to play them on, rather then waste manpower and other resources trying to make it next gen worthy.

Anyone with common sense and even a hint of business sense would see this plain as day, so obviously the above was not aimed at the rabid Sony only fanatics. Let them have their little nothings of imagined victories here...In November they are going to so dearly pay for it when Sony bleeds them drier then Arizona dirt. -=x

Who friggin cares wether they were dropped from the 360. Something tells me that these games certainly wont' be system sellers, I am PS3 all the way but ripping on 360 owners about these two games is retarded.

"...but TWO very high profile games in two days for the 360."

...What kind of crap games do you like to play? The Sopranos and Scarface for 360, high profile?

I mean, I heard that this game was coming to the Xbox, but this cancellation notice is the first time I had even heard of a 360 version of it. Same goes for the Sopranos game. Maybe this is a big aquisition for the Sony camp, but out of all the discussions I've had with friends on Xbox Live about what games they are looking most foward to this year, I've never heard "Sopranos" or "Scarface" once. I guess Sony fans are the only ones that really care about lame television and television games. I'll just play next-gen Smackdown instead of those crappy mob games.

Oh, but yeah, "In our face" I guess.

"just proves that sony will always have it, 10 years or so since the ps1 was released so 2 consoles in 10 years as opposed to microsofts 2 in like 4 or 5 years"

Ummm yeah -- except this is the beginning of Microsoft's second console cycle -- not the end -- so saying that Sony had two consoles in ten years and comparing it to Microsoft makes no sense. When the PS2 came out, that was Sony's second console in 5 years too. In 5 years or so, Microsoft will have had 2 consoles in 10 years.

Just buy the console you like and enjoy it. Who cares which one is more popular? They're all huge corporations just making money off you anyways.

    mmmm, the delicious irony,

I just LOVE how the Sony-Haters screamed and yelled at the top of their lungs that the PS3 was dead because Smackdown is not debuting on the PS3 until next year. They posted on every board how this was the sign of things to come for the PS3 and they laughed and laughed.

And now those very same fanboys are in here trying their very hardest to defend the loss of not one, but TWO very high profile games in two days for the 360.

Oh, the sweet, sweet fanboy hypocrisy.

    yummy
