PSP gets Greatest Hits

Hot Shots Golf, Wipeout Pure spearhead first wave of budget rereleases for Sony's portable; third-party games to be added later this year.
By Brendan Sinclair, GameSpot
Posted Jul 25, 2006 9:32 am PT

Sony's Greatest Hits program, where top-selling older titles are rereleased with new packaging and a budget price tag, was officially introduced to the PlayStation Portable today. Effective immediately, five of Sony's first-party PSP games--Wipeout Pure, Twisted Metal: Head On, Ape Escape: On the Loose, ATV Offroad Fury: Blazin' Trails, and Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee--are available for a suggested retail price of $19.99.

While the first wave of hits is limited to first-party games from around the time of the system's March 2005 launch, Sony has said that third-party games will achieve Greatest Hits status later this year. Specifically, Lumines, Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade, Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix, Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition, and Star Wars Battlefront II are all due to go easier on gamers' wallets.

I still say that the psp is very well worth its price... same as the ds.. well its easy thought about... the psp has more capabilities than the ds, Im not taking sides, but if the ds could do all those things, it would probably been around the same price

Get your facts right, suprcombo. The DS just reached its 21 million mark worldwide, and a fair percentage of that is coming from America. How many PSP's have been sold?

Anyway, I'm excited about this Greatest Hits thing. I really hope that Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories makes the list soon ( I really want to get it, but I never have enough money).

Thats why its always a good idea to wait for price drops, but not if your really anticipated about the game.

You poor 360 guys keep complaining " where are our greatest hits"? You have to sell X amount of something to call it a greatest hit!!! And guess what.....360 sales aren't exactly on fire. Now this week alone I saw sales ads for Perfect Dark and something else nobody's buying for $19.99!!! You want cheap, knock yourself out cheapo's!!!!! Resistance is going to walk all over Call Of Duty at launch!!!!

Wipeout and Twisted Metal are awesome, you guys should definitely get those

PSP is doing very well as far as I'm concerned. I live in the UK and I never see anyone with a DS, this is God's honest truth and my tongue will rot if I lie. Everyday I see people with PSP, it rocks and I love it.

LocoRoco should be over a few Greatest Hits selections. As for mikekare79, the 360 will do this over a few years...

The total no. of PSP in US is still far more than DS~~~
face the fact!!!!

Nintendo DS: At June 30, 2006 : The Americas: 5.9
PlayStation Portable: At March 31, 2006: The Americas: 6.39

And I dont know why people still saying "it is bad" for a price cut ;-(

usually companies do this post year one sales. they get their titles first and begin to slash prices and then talk to third partiers to slash em. heck ea does it all the time. i got fifa soccer(the first one) in august of last year for 25 bucks. its mostly sports titles then the high profile titles like metal gear acid and lumines.

The only games there that deserve "Greatest Hits" is Twisted Metal and Wipeout Pure. Ape Escape, ATV Offroad Fury, and Hot Shots Golf were all "ok" games but nothing special.

I'd kill for your crystal ball.

And yes I know show what happened to Dreamcast. THAT was my point, basically that one fool tried to say the GC isn't dead. and like I said, in 2 yrs of life and even the DC puts the Gamecube to shame in must have exclusive games.

the PSP has loading time and waiting for these games to drop price is a pain. I've played with a PSP for sometime and the "now loading" is cr*p, unlike the DS Lite that i own which only loads saved data, lasting less than 10 secs. Also, the games are much better with a wide variety, not just "golf" and a slimmed down GTA... waiting sucks and so does the high PSP prices!

You obviously haven't played the games that have virtually no loading times.

COUGH, Daxter, *COUGH* Tales of Eternia. Also GTA LCS for PSP is the fastest loading GTA game on a Sony system, period. Just try comparing the loading time to GTA 3 or Vice City on PS2. BIG DIFFERENCE.

This could be just the shot in the arm the PSP needs to hopefully gain a bit of ground on the DS Lite. Competition is good in this and most other industries but I think the DS Lite is getting a little too far ahead for the PSP to keep Nintendo honest.

Cry me a river, TryMe01. Say what you will, the DS has nothing like Loco Roco, DBZ Shin Budokai, GTA, Daxter, Wipeout, Tokobot, or Tekken DR. I've got a DS Lite, and as much as I enjoy it, even I am able to admit that some genres are good on one system, some are good on the other. Sudoku should ONLY be played on the DS, along with choose your own adventure games and RTS, while anything meaty with three dimensions should stay on the PSP. Let's keep the fanboyism to a minimum. These two systems are like night and day, with hits that just CAN'T be done well on the competing platform.

You wish the PSP was dead. GC is what is dead, even Dreamcast had better exclusive titles, and more of them at that.

Guess what. The Wii is replacing the GC you fanboy. Oh and guess what, the Wii version will be better. GAMECUBE IS DEAD. Deal with it. Wii is totally replacing it. Go sell your purple lunch box and get a Wii, you are only hurting yourself by not selling your GC.
