Halo comic goes monthly

After launch of graphic novel, Marvel announces plans to revisit the Master Chief on a regular basis, starting in 2007.

Halo diehards are likely used to unpredictable release schedules by now, but Marvel Comics is looking to help them out with a regular dose of action in their favorite sci-fi shooter series. The comic publisher confirmed that it plans to publish an ongoing monthly Halo comic, with the first issue hitting shelves in May or June of 2007.

"The comic series will explore different parts of the Halo timeline," a Marvel rep told GameSpot. "Bungie and Marvel are still in the process of deciding which parts to explore. Rest assured--the comic series will cover different areas and parts of the Halo universe and continuity."

While a comic launch would tie in nicely with the release of Halo 3, it doesn't appear as if the game's release date was a factor in Marvel's plans. The rep said the decision to start the series up next summer was picked "based on talents being considered for the comic series; scheduling; branding/marketing reasons; etc.--not upon anything else."

Exactly which talents Marvel has lined up for the project are a mystery at the moment, but they might not be for long. The rep said Marvel would have "a huge announcement on the creative team relatively soon."

For a look at Marvel's first treatment of the Halo universe, gamers can pick up the newly released Halo graphic novel. The game has also inspired several original fiction novels, one of which, Halo: The Fall of Reach, will be partially included in the forthcoming Halo film.

this is actually a pretty cool read, worthwhile especially if you are a fan of the series like me. marvel did a great job writing and art and bungie did a good job of not letting it be another made just to sell heap of crap.

I think that the halo storyline is pretty good, as it is so deep, and the game itself is actually pretty good. I feel completely sorry for all of you saddos who whine and whine about how terrible halo is, if you think so then why tell those of us who like it? Its pretty sad to be insulting a video game. I thought that the halo novels were pretty good. For those of you who spend your time hanging around waiting for an opportunity to insult a game from a different platform or whatever, try getting a girlfriend or even going outside every now and then.

I bought the comic two days ago and read the whole thing.

    I give it B-.

Most of the art is pretty sweet, but the majority of the writing is uninspired.

In the first story there is alomst a complete lack (98% less than there should be) of written in "sound effexts". This gives the story a very dull almost lifeless feel.

Not sure it was worth the $20.

Don't mind me, I'm sure there will be someone who enjoys the comic.

I've read some of the novels, ive played both games, i dont like them.

But all this whining will not do anyone any good.

Why can't you people simply say "More power to them, if they want a comic, then let there be light"

Personnally i couldnt care less that Halo is highly unoriginal, boring, doesnt interest me in the slightest as it really is just a rip of many other sci-fi sources (much like Harry Potter is for the fantasy genre) But they are free to do that, and if a lot of people get enjoyment from that, then thats good. As has been said countless times, i dont like it, so i dont have to read/play it if i dont want to. So all the rest of you should do the same.

its a comic.. why are people whining so badly? if you dont want to read it, dont read it. preety simple. let people who actualy like comics and also like halo, read it if they want to. :/ people whine for anythin nowdays.

hey dudecust420, I think they already have a halo underwaear. haha alright, I was just kidding. but seriousely, the halo series was very good, but the comic series is just too much. I mean I can understand the movies, pens, action figures but just not the comic series didn't bungie say halo 3 is going to end the trology?

Why can't a videogame just simply be a videogame? Don't turn it into a movie or pen a comic book...PLEASE. The worst of it is the fact that too many people are anticipating this. Why? It's useless...

    Posted Jul 27, 2006 8:07 pm PT

Errrr, I knew it wasent just him I said the MAIN character. Anyway the point still stands. There have been plenty of stories just like it. But the person who said nothing is original anymore is pretty much.

But still those Halo novels arent that great compared to real writters. Read Robert Jordans Wheel of Time series if you want something that is totally amazing ! Thats a story

  • madcapper248

    Posted Jul 27, 2006 11:04 am PT

arsy 130 has it mostly right. The only mistake I find is that MC isn't the only spartan left.3-5 survived Reach by tunnels underneath the training facility and made it back to Earth. They just haven't been shown in the games but the GN shows a female spartan in armor training.

  • Torlek42

    Posted Jul 27, 2006 9:36 am PT

Nothing is original. George Lucas copied Star Wars from another guy's books, and every story on the planet has one of 19 plot lines.

  • arsy130

    Posted Jul 27, 2006 8:40 am PT

FellfromGrace..... you obviously know nothing man....... for your information it wasnt just him..... the was an army of spartans, and they went to fight the war on reach and the covenant won that war and the only bad ass that survived was him...... thats why you have the damn novels to read....... the story is longer than you think., so dont comment about what you dont know...

  • Thrash777

    Posted Jul 27, 2006 5:53 am PT

FellfromGrace... you don't know the entire story, otherwise you wouldn't make that comment. True, it seems to have the same structure to many other games, but there are loads more parts to it than just that.

The 3 novels/books were a great read, and set the rest of Halo in perspective really well.

  • FellfromGrace

    Posted Jul 26, 2006 10:34 pm PT

How is Halos story good? Its the most unoriginal thing I have ever seen.

Lets see the main character Master Chief is geneticly altered to be a bad ass. Hmm I can think of about one million movies/games that came out before that where the main guy was the very same.

One group bad guys (the covenant) are religious zealots fighting for their beliefs. WOW now that right there has not only gone down in video games since day one its gone down in the real world since day one haha.

At the end of the first one the biggest known "constructed" thing at the time that was a bad ass weapon (the first Halo) was destroyed. Damn that sounds awfully similiar to the very first Star Wars movie that ever came out, not to mention that Halo 2 ends on a cliffhanger, which DAMN thats awfully similar to how the second Star Wars movie ended, on a cliff hanger.

All in Halos story blows, sorry. But hey who cares this is a FPS and the game itself rocks and is a blast to play. Give credit where credit is due, but just b/c the actual game play is amazing doesnt mean you have to kiss their ass and say they are uber writters !

A comic would be great ! I just hope they invest in the storyline and stay true to the subject matter. That is what we want ! what we don't want is some off the wall B.S. if we wanted that we could easily found some knockoff game/book/comic
the comic book is a great format to keep the epic story moving. you(can) get 12 issues a year great artwork plus the little collectors item(the book itself). And if you think commics are for kids you are dead wrong there are mainstream comics that appeal to Adults (Marvel Knights, Max, Vertigo and Dark horse) besides a great story is a great story no matter the format just be thankful some one gives a crap
