Sex, PS2 blamed for Brazil star's WC failure

Soccer stud Ronaldinho showed off moves in Germany...off the pitch; Brazilian reportedly tired at World Cup after all-night PS2, sex romps.

When Brazil entered the 2006 World Cup as the favorite to take the championship, many pointed toward two-time FIFA player of the year Ronaldinho as the reason the team was the top seed. When Brazil was knocked out by France in the quarterfinals, fingers again pointed toward the star--who was held scoreless and did not play nearly up to his billing--this time to blame. British tabloid The Sun says that Ronaldinho's poor showing was due to some off-field lovefests and plenty of PlayStation 2. In an interview with his girlfriend, French model Alexandra Paressant, the femme says that the soccer star would break team rules and sneak into her hotel room to "make love all night" and unwind by playing 2006 FIFA World Cup on the PlayStation 2. The Star implies that it wasn't the marathon sex sessions that left him worn out for competition. "Instead, [Paressant] says, his habit of playing PlayStation after their romps may have knocked his form."

    This is dumb. If he was using the PS2 to "unwind" then what is the alternative? Coming to the pitch as a stressbucket? I'm pretty sure he knew he was in the World Cup. Maybe he wasn't able to handle it, but it would be stupid to blame videogames. If it wasn't PS2, maybe he would have spent the time drawing on an Etch-A-Sketch, and then we could blame Etch-a-Sketches.

    Now since he plays for Barca I'm a fan of his but this is just a bunch of BS. I can't believe he would ever say something like that. Brazil didn't make it to the final because they put a lot of pressure on their players and because they played like crap from the start of the tourny.

    He needs to blame himself because if he took the tourny serious then he would've never snuck out of the hotel to do his woman and play video games all night. I'm sure other players played video games during the WC and they're not blaming their hobby for their short comings on the field.

    OmegaGear, in your blind rant against pampered athletes, you forgot one important factor: RONALDINHO ISN'T THE ONE WHO DID THIS INTERVIEW! It was a self-professed girlfriend who didn't mind talking to one of Britain's largest tabloids who blabbed about Ronaldinho playing PS2 & having wild sex...as far as I have seen, Ronaldinho has been nothing but professional about his poor WC play.

    Oh, and can you think about what you did on the nights before the most important days of your life? I bet it was watch television or hang with friends...athletes might experience huge events that are unfathomable to most but they are human beings and they don't have to robotically think about their sport all the time...they are allowed to relax.

    Him blaming the PS2 is more proof of his immaturity and inability to take the professional level of soccer seriously. I don't know about you, but something tells me that if I was playing in the world cup of soccer, the LARGEST sport event in the world (Yes, bigger than the olympics), I would be to focused to even remember what a PS2 was.
