Animal Crossing movie detailed

Web site for upcoming animated movie based on Nintendo's franchise reveals characters, plot, crew.

Nintendo's Animal Crossing franchise is unique in that it doesn't have a traditional story, there's no real beginning or end, and the main character is unique to each individual. However, those factors won't stop the game from being made into a movie. The Web site for the movie adaptation of the game has launched, and it reveals some basic details of the film.

Doubutsu No Muri (the Japanese title for the film and its game inspiration) will be released on December 16 this year and will be fully animated. Handling the directing will be Jouji Shimura, who directed the anime movie Shin Angyo Onshi, and screenwriting duties were filled by Aya Matsui (Marmalade Boy, Ranma 1/2).

According to the Web site, the movie will feature much of the spirit of the Animal Crossing games. The plot summary on the site reads: "Doubutsu (Animal) Village is a place where humans and animals live together in friendship. One day, a girl named Ai moves to the village. She gets a part time job, and gradually starts making friends in the village. Then, one night she finds a mysterious letter in a bottle on the beach. Opening the bottle, she finds the message reads 'A miracle will occur the night of the Snow Festival'..."

In addition to Ai, Kappei, the taxi driver from the games, will make an appearance. Also featured in the film will be Kotobuki, the town's mayor; Tanukichi, the raccoon shop owner; and Alberto, a mellow alligator.

There is no word yet of a North American release for the movie.

The AC movie is very cute and it has all the caracters either in it or mentioned.I think it would be a hit in the USA.Not everyone is enamored with violence. In fact that's why i bought the game.It has no killing and it's challenging enough to keep any hardcore gamer puzzled on how to accomplish surtain catches.

oh, for the love of god!
did someone already saw the trailer?
this movie actually have a plot and if you dont believe me, seach it it wikipedia!
and i think this is cool, a movie of a great game and the story is (im not very good at english) is touching (i think thats the word) but i know this movie, like a lot of japanese movies, its going to be a hit in japan, but if it comes to America is not going to be good at all, because we only want to see violence, sexy girls in a suit fighting aliens, some metal green guy fighting more aliens for save the world, and isnt the only thing that matters , it doesnt hurt to see something a little more cute and even get a good message instead of pure violence. (sry terribly english)

i have always thought animal crossing would make a good movie. but not animated, it should be similar to the commercials that were on when the game first came out. with the people dressed in those costumes. THAT would make a good movie. but i'm excited to see how this one turns out. they'd better have a North American release planned.

What the bloody Hell!? I clicked this article thinking it was an August Fool's Joke or something..but then I remembered that it's neither April, nor August..hawt damn.

Nintendo, I love you..but..what in the Hell?

Guy Below Me: There has already been a Metroid movie announced..and Zelda's had a TV show before, but that's not exactly the same thing.

And barely anyone in the world besides the NES/old-school fans know Kid Icarus, unfortunately. =/ He's not as much of a fan-favourite as Link or Samus.

Hehe... Tom Nook could start a global corporation and they have to stop him from taking over the world.

Anyone remember those live action animal crossing commercials? That would be interesting to see in a movie.

I don't know what to think... but maybe it's reverse psychology. A game that shouldn't be made into a movie is good and all those ones that should've been good stink.

Animal Crossing is a blockbuster, Metroid Prime the Movie bites the dust... I can see it now...

  • mhder

    Posted Jul 21, 2006 8:45 am PT

Before the animal crossing game was made - and if we were all to hear or read about it here, we'd likely say: pfft, it's gonna suck, no plot, no point, no guns, no nothing... But millions are playing it and loving it. So the movie, put in the hands of the right people could be just as successful when made - it just won't make sense on paper. I mean they've screwed up games that could have been great movies, now maybe the opposite will work.

ok, do you guys know who is writing and pruducing, Jouji Shimura and Aya Matsui are well known in the Anime world they made few of the best Anime out there, so i trust them with the product, and by the way Ranma 1/2 ROCKED.

Well if anyone has seen a Miyazaki anime, then you know that the most outrageous thing can be a work of art.

  • tuddy_666

    Posted Jul 21, 2006 4:55 am PT

I bet it'll have some really wierd plot, but it'll be fun anyway. If the monkey who runs the train station in the gamecube version is in it, then it'll rock, otherwise, the movie'll be mediocre, at best.

It could be a simple movie about living in a forest town using Animal crossing characters... The thing is, we don't really know anything about it and everyone is already calling it a bad movie. YOu expect it to be like a game.. well how many games that became movies followed the game plot 100% .. almost none. Maybe Gracie will be out to rule the fashion world and you have to kill her or something...

Nook ans his awesome shop better be in the movie or else I'm not seeing it!!!! And L.K Slider too!!! The movie HAS to have Nook and K.K. Slider or else it CAN'T be good!!! HAHA!

The only reason people are opposed to this is because it was originally a game. If this was just some random idea taken out of thin air, everyone wouldn't be so critical.
