Metal Gear online tourney kicks off next week
North American Subsistence players set to compete over eight weeks for pride and prizes.
In March, Konami's Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence gave players the opportunity to play against each other with the introduction of a new online multiplayer mode to the series. Now they'll get a chance to prove who's the best Snake of them all with an official online tournament.
Sponsored by iGames, the tournament will be open to North American Subsistence players and will run from July 29 to September 17. Each weekend during that span, participants will compete in as many deathmatch and team deathmatch games as they wish and will be rated with a system intended to judge overall skill level instead of wins and losses. After the first seven weeks of qualifying matches, the best 128 solo players and the top 32 teams will compete in a final elimination round.
Each day's winners will receive a Metal Gear Saga DVD or a copy of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. The overall deathmatch champion will earn a 32-inch Hyundai HDTV with speakers and stand, while the best team deathmatch squad will win a Logitech surround-sound speaker system. All of the tournament winners will get an in-game FoxHound champion emblem.
For more information on the tournament, go to the official iGames rules page. For more on Subsistence, check out GameSpot's full review.
