The first issue of a new magazine dedicated to massively multiplayer online games will include a DVD, courtesy of Sony, featuring trial versions of EverQuest, EverQuest II, PlanetSide, Star Wars Galaxies, SOE Comic Book Creator, and The Matrix Online. Access to the beta of Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising is also included. The disc will be included with the September 2006 issue of Massive Magazine. The single-issue price was not announced. The magazine will focus on MMO culture, such as the various games' communities and players, both in and out of the game, said the magazine, which is being pubilshed by Strategy Plus.

Playing MMOs is like buying all the ice cream at the grocery store and nothing else. And it does about the same for your body. Of course you Can do it, but that doesn't mean you Should do it....

Seriously - nobody who plays MMOs has time to read a MMO magazine. They are too busy farming Epics in Blackwing Lair and Molten Core.

I predict this magazine will turn into a big advertisement for IGE and all the other Virtual-Item selling companies. They'll have ads for MMO Gold on every page -- just you wait and see.

It's always cool when a gaming company distributes demos of their games so you can try before you buy.

i think the internet already gives enough info on this kinda stuff... so reading about it a few weeks late really doesn't cut it.

The EQ franchise is the only one worth installing. Major EQ2 addict since the recent patches. Matrix is goofy, Planetside is klunky, SW:G should be buried for a ground-up rewrite.

I have the one and only copy of "mogaming magazine" (or something like that), a project that sank just after the first try (the second issue is availalble for free as pdf on the internet, since it was completed but never printed). Let's see how this one will do better, I will surely get the first copy, who knows, it could become a rarity just like the other one

Good point man. Also - consider how MMOs evolve. They live and die by The Patch. How can a quarterly magazine possibly keep up with MMO developments when, by their very nature, that evolution is totally sporadic in MMOs? Can you fill a mag with little community stories, witty beta journals, and expansion previews and conjecture? Oh right - all these Euro and Asian MMOs pouring into North America recenty can easily fill up a magazine. All these utterly mediocre Euro and Asian MMOs pouring into North America recently can easily fill up a magazine. You can say that again.

There are community and fan sites with reviews/guides/ and information about certain MMOs. All these sites, although not wholely proffesional, can provide better "stuff" to the readers than any magazine can. MMOs, unlike console games where Magazines get preview builds, etc... MMOs need to be reviewed and discussed by its players, and more likely after it comes out. A MMO magazine is pointless and quite contradictory to what a magazine should do.

50 pages devoted to the "How to Grind" section every month, featuring guest spots from very avid MMO players--who admire each other's impressive hunchbacks and carpal tunnel lesions--while offering tips on how to repeat exactly the same player interactions 200,000 times in a row over the course of 72 hours. It's a fantastic read, that MMO mag. (jest).

Mag is dead in the water! Especially if SOE is supporting them.

SOE will probably Redesign, Restructure, and Remodel the magazine every 3 months...if it lasts that long.

The mag won't last.

I give it four issues, if that.

All the already existing magazines, aswell as GameSpot, cover any information needs. People aren't going to go and buy a mag based on just MMORPG's so they can hear about EverQuest 1 getting a new patch.

With the new Acclaim and many other localization publishers bringing additional content, we can expect to see many more MMORPGs.

I hate to say it, but really, Sony can't *give* most of these games away. With few exceptions (like PlanetSide), they're barely worth playing for free.

That news still doesnt sell me on it. Gods & Heroes would be cool to see, but the rest of those games.... (minus EQ2) are crap. Galaxies is a total piece of garbage since SOE killed it.
