Tekken: Dark Resurrection golden

Development wraps up on Namco's first fighter for the PSP; King of Iron Fist ready to rumble later this month.

A portable version of Tekken appeared on the Game Boy Advance in 2002, but the 3D fighting franchise was constrained to a mere two dimensions. Now the series is ready to return to the handheld ring with all three axes intact, as Namco has announced that Tekken: Dark Resurrection for the PSP has finished development.

The PSP version of Tekken, set to enter US stores on July 25, introduces two new characters to the franchise, Lili and Dragunov. One gameplay feature of Dark Resurrection that publisher Namco is touting is its "ghost" mode, which analyzes a player's fighting style and creates a computer-controlled character that, Namco claims, mimics how he or she fights. Ghost-character data can then be download by other, nearby players using the local Wi-Fi support of the PSP.

Dark Resurrection features local wireless multiplayer, using either one or two copies of the game. No online multiplayer fighting is included, although the game does offer limited Web access, with the ability to connect to the Internet to view other players' rankings on a leaderboard.

Tekken's appearance on the PSP continues the series' long-running attachment to Sony's hardware. The original Tekken on the PlayStation came out shortly after the launch of the console, and for more than a decade the series' main entries have appeared--other than in the arcades--exclusively on Sony systems.

For more information on Tekken: Dark Resurrection, view GameSpot's recent impressions of the import version of the game, which is already available in Japan.

cool, I have been very excite about this game. I dont know what others are saying I have a DS and a PSP and I play my psp more. DS is nice for cheesy touch screen games, and mario. But man when i got a copy of burnout on the psp it was just amazing (PS quality just about), heard the ds version sucked (probably N64 quality).....

Going to Vegas in a month this will be totally worth having on the 5 hour plane ride =) DS sitting out the vegas trip lol

controls will be good, graphics even better, and juvinwo 1, you got rid of your PSP to early, there are going to be a bunch of good releases coming up soon. you just have to be patient with the gaming market and I'm happy at the fact that I'm getting a limited edition tekken wrist strap because I pre-ordered mine

BLAAAH !!!! this is preposterous. an outrage. they put one of the hottest fighting game genre on a small screen the size of your hand !!???? pathetic. i will never EVER buy Tekken or SF 2 or any fighting game for a portable. why ?? because the whole time ill be thinking man i wish this was on my TV !!!!!!! thats why and that's why it's not worth my hard earned cash. when i buy something i dont want to have nagging discontent thoughts or 2nd doubts. NAMCO DIE for this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL! They are copying the 'Ghost' idea from PGR series "

wow you are really ignorant. PGR did not invent the Ghost system.... It has been used in the PS1 era. Also, Tekken has used ghost data from real tekken players in Tekken 5, so this is not unkown teritory from them.

the hype machine is cranking up but to be fair, even Brain Age 2 is outselling it.

    1.) New Super Mario Bros. (NDS, Nintendo) - 134,568 | 2,137,680
    2.) Xenosaga Episode III (PS2, Namco) - 123,847 | NEW
    3.) More Brain Age (NDS, Nintendo) - 50,634 | 2,700,187
4.) Tekken Dark Resurrection (PSP, Namco) - 49,426 | NEW
    5.) Brain Age (NDS, Nintendo) - 33,771 | 2508373 "

tsk tsk tsk.... brain age is not outselling it, the list goes like this:

    1.) New Super Mario Bros. (NDS, Nintendo) - 134,568 | 2,137,680
    2.) Xenosaga Episode III (PS2, Namco) - 123,847 | NEW

I know you were just kidding, I wasn't bashing you.

I was just looking forward to playing this game on the PS2 since i'm not going to spend $300 on a protable system that doesn't intrest me and there is exactly 0 arcades where I live (and even if there happened to be one the newest game they would have would be the first DDR released in the states).

But I find it odd with fans complain about PSP exclusity and the game gets ported over to PS2.

Let the PSP have it's glory sheesh. The PS2 is about to book it anyways for the PS3.

Fans don't get all crabby about your one of your favorite series not being put on a 6 1/2 year old console O_o.

well the difference is they could port the arcade version to the PS2 (instead of the inferior PSP version) like they SHOULD HAVE DONE instead of only releasing it on the PSP.

GTA LCS was built from the ground up for the PSP, where as Tekken 5: DR was made for the arcade using the same arcade board and that would make it easier to port to PS2 (like Tekken 5 was).
