Jaffe hints at God of War 3

On his personal blog, the iconoclastic designer says he's "confident" the popular action series will become a trilogy.

Among the inner sanctums of game development, David Jaffe is known as something of a paradox--a guy with a knack for both self-deprecating humor and self-promotion. He certainly displayed his dual nature in a post on his personal blog this week, where, after poking gentle fun at himself, he proceeded to talk up his latest project, God of War 2 for the PlayStation 2.

"I can tell you that God of War 2 is shaping up very, very nicely," he boasted in a July 10 post headlined "ESCAPE FROM L.A." "I played a bunch of levels last week and it's really, really fun. The art and music is much better than the first game and there is some damn fine level design going on in the new game. ... This is the second act of a bigger story."

Then Jaffe went on to pique the interest of Kratos groupies everywhere by saying it is looking increasingly likely that there will be a God of War 3. "When you are making a game, you never really know if the game will turn out good enough to merit another one in the series," he said. "But after last week, I can say I am very confident of our chances to be able to complete the God of War trilogy."

Jaffe was quick to qualify his comments by saying, "You never know, but that's me just putting it out there." However, his statement is further indication that a third chapter in the series is being planned, planned, at least by Jaffe. Sony had not commented on its plans for the franchise beyond God of War II, which is currently slated to hit PS2s in February 2007.

    it would be nice if they could have two player co-op, or better ye combine GOW with Heavenly Sword!!!! Kratos and Kira together, that would be an azz whoppin waitin to happen.

    i don't think it'll come out for x360, it's sony only playstation, just like halo is only for xbox. anywho, they HAVE to bring out a third one. the war is not over. and like the game says itself "This is the beginning of the End"

    Quite an ignorant post if you ask me, you cannot conceal such a potential story; ending GoW2 as they did yet be "confident" that the third will come out. He HAS to continue the adventures of Kratos as it said to be continued? And should NOT be "confident" but completely certain. :l

    His blog link does not work. Ok...a bit of questions at the end..If Kratos kills Zeus how can he be born if Zeus is his father? If he controls the threads of time why not snip the people he needs to. I wonder what surprises from mythology we will get.Its all mismash of real stuff. e.g Fighting Perseus. KRATOS (or Cratus) was the god or spirit (daimon) of strength, might, power and sovereign rule. lol. his brother is called NIKE. "He and his siblings, Nike (Victory), Bia (Force) and Zelos (Rivalry), were the winged enforcers of Zeus, angel-like beings who stood in constant attendance of the heavenly throne." Apparently Kratos was born from Pallas the giant and Styx. Hmmm, wonder if they could include that. I remember they said Kratos had a weaker brother in the underworld.     GoWIII WILL be on the PS3.. for sony wnats the sales of the PS3 to boost.. and ofcourse the only person whos gonna finance and tell em' to go ahead is SONY... i dont think it will go on the PS2 and i dont thing it will go Multiplat.. thats what so great about GoW its for sony fans.. if there will be a GoW3 which is likely because of all the Critical acclaim GoWII is getting it probably wont see the day of light till after Gow: COO is out...

    Yeah, most of us can't wait for it! and i've got a good feeling that God of War will become one of the most top games in the list and in gaming history! can't wait for another title after the second series!!!

    will there be a GOW3? because in the ending of GOW2 it is almost the ending of the story althought it is a "Picture Out Basis".... zeus is already weak in that state and gathers all major gods for a meeting or to defend olympus... if there will be God Of War 3 it would be best if they put it on PS2, coz GOW started at ps2 so it must end on the same console, and also to call it a "Trilogy"... and i think God Of War series will never be released in Xbox/Xbox360 coz GOW is lisenced to Sony.....

    DUDE I CAN'T WAIT FOR GOW 3- its sooo good i beat it on the ps3 with backword conpadabilaty guys think about it gow2 on the ps2?.. comeon think about it gow 3 on the ps3 will be soo much better because of the space blue-ray can give u.. and plus the graphics would be soo better and anyway if u don't wanna get the ps3 because of the monmey trust me by the time gow 3 comes out on the ps3 the ps3 will be 500 or 400 dollers

    God of War is really the best game we played in the last years!We play it on PS2-the best console i the last 5-6 years ! I play games from 20 years i passed everythin' you can imagine.But thats game is something different.It will close brilliantly ps2 era only if its a trilogy on that platform!So lets unleash the greatest of the Spartan warriors once again on PLAYSTATION 2!!!!!!!

    after playing gow2 i already want to play #3 to finish out the story. gow3 on ps3 with the graphical power man that game would look sick. keep up the good work jaffe.

    God of War II's ending is kinda like Halo 2, leaves ya hangin' and WANTING to destroy your enemies...but it ends like that. I say, they did a nice job on GOW2, especially the ending, just garrentee's a trilogy

    I agree with u aikao, GOW III, if and when it arrives should be a PS2 product... why would Sony want to blow their fan base by putting out what could potentially be one of the greatest ends to a brilliant story onto a system that many people still refuse to purchase because of its high price and "lack of excitement." Personally, I would do almost anything to play a 3rd GOW, everything except running out to drop $500-$600 on a PS3. Lets pray that Sony makes the right decision....

    If GOW2 is among the last games released on the PS2, then developers must have learned everything they could have to harness the potential of that hardware. GOW2 looks better than some current generation console games (XBOX360, PS3, and Wii), which are currently in their 1st and 2nd year. How much of the PS3's potential will have been tapped when SCEA developers finish GOW3? Will a GOW game sing the swan song for the PS3 seven years from now, when the next generation Playstation is fresh on shelves?

    It is fun to imagine how SCEA will top GOW2. With the expanse covered by the first 2 games, and the prequel PSP game (still in development), there are possibilities that only David Jaffe and the SCEA can bring to the series, and there are demands from fans.

    What are your demands (wishes) for events, scenes, innovations, etc that should be given attention in God of War 3 on PS3?

    Sony needs to do something good for the PS3 if they want it to sell. Oh, and whoever said something about a prequel, that's a good idea. Kratos had his blades and godly strength for ten years before the first game. Who wants to pillage!!!
