CNN/Money: Wii could launch early

Article cites analysts, insiders saying that Nintendo could potentially launch its next console as early as September.

If Wii watchers were happy when Sports Illustrated for Kids came out with a November 6 release date for the system, they'd likely be elated to read a new CNN/Money report from Chris Morris that suggests the console could arrive as soon as late September.

In his article, Morris points out that the Xbox 360 went on sale 69 days after manufacturing of the system began. He then cites a June 21 analyst report from American Technology Research's P.J. McNealy indicating that the Wii has already entered manufacturing. McNealy is quoted in the article as saying that October is "a reasonable timeframe" for the release. Morris also cites other, unnamed industry insiders as expecting a September or October launch for the system.

As for the official Nintendo line on this article, a representative hadn't returned GameSpot's request for comment as of press time. However, earlier today the company did respond to the Sports Illustrated for Kids article, saying in part, "We remain committed to launch the remarkable Wii console in the fourth quarter of 2006."

That would rule out a September launch, but not October. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has previously said the console would hit shelves in the US before Thanksgiving.

    If the price is about 25,000 yen, It's going to be about $220. Not $115. 114 yen is about 1 dollar.

    I'm buying both the Wii and PS3. Both are unique in there ways. Since the Wii is cheaper and comes out early, I'll definitly start with it.

    For the stupid ppl, the price is 200-250. Not 300. I don't think they would sell it for any less that 210 though.

    Ok, ok I won't mind if the Wii will release too early, but I would like a precise time of release, like somewhere in October...... mostly because my birthday is at that time haha.

    u know what i think, the wii and the ps3 r great systems for different reasones it's like comparing a plant to a car, and i know that sounds crazy but thats the way your talking.your saying wii is going to win for its classics, mario, zelda, metroid etc. Some say ps3 is going to win cause it has alot mor power, can play blue-ray,better graphics, and better games like gran turismo or resident evil.so before u start saying this 1 is better than the they're competing for different reasons.

    I find the Wii system to totaly own all the other systems. I own a 360 and I love it, but I just am not addicted to any of the games like I would love to be. Wii will be my all time favorite, Halo3 will be epic, but wont take the fun out of Wii. Nothing ever will. I love Nintendo my favorite company.

    As long as a person thinks "Next Generation" is a direct translation to "sHineY LoL", then they don't really deserve to voice their opinion in the first place.

    I put my fifty dollars down to buy Twilight Princess down over a year ago Laxpheenix, am I not aloud to be excited about that either?

    I can't wait. laxpheeniks, you need to shut up. The reason people can't wait for it is because it the game industry has become stale and Nintendo see that. Wii don't care about flashy graphics, we want fresh game ideas DS style.

    Calling people geeks because their excited about a new idea is unfair.
    Personally, so long as I'm playing Zelda and Red Steel before Christmas, I'll be happy.

    For all you people saying how this is going to be a true next-gen system, I have got two words -- Shut up. This is not going to be a next-gen system, it is a current gen system, Miyamoto even said that.

    Yes, this system is going to be good, but stop being such geeks and just wait for it... Talking about how cool its going to be wont make it come any faster.

    I like to see people who know what they're talking about. Yes I'm talking about you GameQ. I also think that the launch might be quite weak in terms of new games when the system is first released. Truth be told though, knowing that Twilight princess will be among those titles launched keeps my hopes up, and I know it will keep me entertained long after the other titles start coming out. Red Steel will probably make the launch as well, seeing as how the demo given at E3 was pretty much the finished copy of the game.

    Those two top notch games not to mention the idea that the Nintendo download servers will probably be up and running 100% on day 1. My best friend is already talking to me about games he would like me to download when I get the system...and to tell you the truth, I'm pretty juiced. Exciting times are coming....a real next generation system is coming soon.

    Am I the only person that thinks they should launch it on the same day as the PS3? You'd get a lot of parents saying they'd buy their kid a new system, and they'd go for the cheaper one for sure, "Hey, I played Nintendo when I was a kid... You'll love this, Junior! And look! It's not $600..."

    This article never mentions the word games!!! The sooner the Wii comes out the worse the launch lineup. I know that most of us who following the game industry's every move dont care about launch lineup that much. We know that if a game did not make it to the launch lineup, it will still come out within a few months, thus we get the new system, and a few games, and play and wait for the games we really want.

    But we are a vast minority. The causual gamer does not know what games did not make the launch. All they know are the games they see on the shelves. If the Wii launches too early with out a strong launch lineup, then the casual gamer will less likely to purchase.

    I say early november. It gives everyone the time needed to get the finishing touches on games and still holds true to previous statement that nintendo made about the launch.

    It's good for Wii to come sooner, I like it comming to the shops earlier than the PS3, everybody is wondering about when it comes, Can't wait to get one...

    I can't wait, I never got to finish my copy of Metroid Prime, Or Ocarina of Time/Master Quest because my Cube broke. (I got it used) I want to get Red Steel, Wii Sports and, of course, Twilight Princess.
