Final Fantasy XII in stores on Halloween

Latest in long-running series from Square Enix gets a street date of October 31; first details on limited-edition package revealed.

Gamers who've already made plans for Halloween this year might have to rethink them. Square Enix today announced that it will release Final Fantasy XII for the PlayStation 2 in North America on October 31.

The publisher is releasing the game in both a standard package ($49.99) and a Collector's Edition ($59.99), the latter of which will be available exclusively through GameStop and EB Games. For the extra $10, gamers will get a bonus DVD with developer interviews, featurettes about the series, Japanese and American promotional trailers, and an art gallery.

A playable demo of the game was included in last year's major Square Enix role-playing game, Dragon Quest VIII, while Japanese gamers got the chance to get their hands on the game when it was released in that country in March.     xSaruSanx - Us 'whiners' in the UK do have reason to be annoyed about the delay or do you U.S. 'supremists' only have your game in one language? We just like America are a multi-national country and there should be no differences between that of your release and that of ours. People could be put to work translating simultaneously - capiche?

    Okay, you guys whining in the UK and Europe seriously need to get over the wait. The reason you guys get it after America is because of translation difficulties. It's much easier to translate between Japanese and English than it is to translate between Japanese and, say, German.

    Sweeet. The first real Final Fantasy since Final Fantasy X, well atleast it better be. I'm gonna get the Collector's Edition for only 10 extra dollers!

    Umm what do u mean by finally lol? its been out in japan for a good half year now....

    There finally translating it to english..but too bad..i might buy it just for collection. Story is not good and not worth the play all over again.

    I agree with sidious, I hope it's not much diff. than FFVII or FFX (which were my two fav.'s and FFVII was my fav. game EVER). I hope it has the evil feeling of FFVII . . . that's what made VII so good was because it wasn't such a happy feeling like FFX-2 which I personally thinked flopped. The evil feeling, the fact that doom surrounds you and you have to save the world kind of concept is amazing to me . . . really hope this FF does that.

    Only reason i have my PS2 still i can not wait + i have only heard great things from the Japs its one of the best games ever they say.

    And I-Love-My-Ds go play ur kid Nin games aint gonna sell much? i think it will sell better than ur rubbish Mario games lol yeah Mario god and that new Zelda game looke real gooooood honest lol

    The final Fantasy series has been experimental these last few rounds but it's always been a good game.

    The demo was a lot of fun heres to looking forward to the first ever full action RPG.

    Why do people say i am a liar? i have the god damn game , and have played it 150hrs+ is alot yes. And i took my time to play the game m and explore the maps and stuff. There is alot of material involved in this game. Many such as ultimate weapons are a pain in the ass to get. Side quest you do are like Mob hunts, You got to clinets and helped them kill mobs. And some mobs are heard and take time.

    Spoiler* The last "Clan Mob" Yazmat(jap name) is a mob that as over 25mill HP and easily takses 7hours with lvls 80+. Side quest cosistrs over "Regular mobs" and "Clan mobs". All give rewards from clients...

    Whoever said i am lying, please check who has the game and who doesn't and then tall.

    Yeah, about bloody time. GTA: LCS was a great diversion, but I want something to throw myself into story wise. Can't keep replaying FF games (FF4, FF6, FF7, FFX, FFX-2), or enjoying WOW. Hopefully, this game will make up for the lack of really good RPG's over the last couple of years.

    Lanevo2006, I dont usually go in for picking holes at people comments, but your very skethcy on the details, what side quest? and what real time fighting system, all these things have been mentioned by gamespot and various other web sites following FF, and are not new. DETAILS PLEASE.

    And for those doubting the hype, the final fantasy series is one of the most succesful and profitable in gaming history, THEY KNOW RPG.

    @ ZhenDash: Where did you get that info about the European release? Play.com says it's available on Dec 1, mostly they're quite right. They were at least with Xenosaga II. I don't think we Europeans will get FFXII before the US, although I wouldn't mind at all having it sooner here, hehe..

    Great game! In fact, is a good thing that the main charachter doesn't get most of attention. Ussually, the may character sucks so bad. -_-''
    I guess I just like Terra and Celes, Cloud and... Uhm... Tidus?
    Anyways... The supporting characters are ussually more interesting. ^^
