New GRAW 360 content out now

After slight delay, Chapter 2 hits XBL; content features four new maps, five new weapons, more for 1200 points ($15).
By Tim Surette, GameSpot
Posted Jun 22, 2006 3:56 pm PT

Earlier today, Ubisoft announced that the new content pack for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter was available from Xbox Live Marketplace. Dubbed "Chapter 2," the content pack was detailed earlier this month and promised before June's end.

However, subsequent checks for Chapter 2 by GameSpot staff revealed that it was not on Marketplace, which left many trigger-happy gamers chomping at the bit. It wasn't until approximately 3:30 p.m. PT that the download did find its way onto Xbox Live.

Chapter 2 includes four new maps for cooperative play, eight maps relit to portray different times of day for competitive multiplayer battles, five new weapons, two new game modes, 2 new camouflage patterns, and four new faces for soldiers.

The add-on will set gamers back 1200 Marketplace points ($15), making it one of the pricier downloads over Xbox Live (Bankshot Billiards also retails for 1200 points). However, it is also one of the larger downloads in terms of both content and size (725MB).

Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter is rated T for Teen and retails for $59.99. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's review.

You pay £50 for the game and £40 for xbox live, surely that £90 should cover all future updates, otherwise what is the £40 for when buying xbox live???

To everyone busy whining about the price, compare $15 to a standard retail price. Let's see you whine now.

NO WAYY!! Im paying that much for the new 'GRAW' content ive already paid for the game itself, sorry but i dont have the money for that kind of stuff. Maybe if it were a little less expensive like 7.99 or something then that would've made more sense to me. XBL need to slow it down, aside from the service fees that we pay yearly.

I bought the download, which took forever. Not really sure this is worth it honestly. 5 new weapons? What are they? How about the 3round burst option being put back in instead of having to gauge the trigger pull on auto. I only recommend the new maps if you spend a lot of time on live. If you just get on there once in while, then this is a waste of your money.

But PC gaming is an alone thing. NO one interrupts and you're in for all the action. I like that rather than saying, "K dude, get off the 360, I wanna use Live"

That Price is so whack man. I'd rather blow up my 360! lol!
But if you think about it, that Halo 2 map pack was $20 but wait: It came with like 6-7 maps and grenade features + footage. Wow, the GRAW team does suck with downloads. Sheesh. 4 maps? Come on.

hey its like going to see 2 movies, the movies together proably last 4 to 4 1/2 hours, the graw expansion is the same price but it entertains you for like 15 hours and it can also entertain your friends so its not that bad of a price. (buy or dont buy it dont make it a huge deal)

I see your point ArmorAshes, however I have friends and family that are gamers that come over on the weekends to game with me so having a console has it's advantages over the PC.

If you don't think it is worth the $15, don't buy it. I'm buying it because it will easily add more than 15 hours of novel fun to the game for me and my friends, and these days, a $1 per hour is a great entertainment value. Depending on how much fun you have from GRAW, these maps may or may not be worth it. So be it.

And frankly, the days of free content are over. It takes a lot of man hours to make these huge, high quality HD maps, and those people can't work for free. Complaining that the maps aren't free is like complaining that a comic book based on a movie should be free because you paid for the movie. It doesn't work that way.

If you want free maps, play Far Cry. You can make your own maps. Give it a try and you'll see that even with a stripped down limited map editor how many hours it takes to make a decent, fun map.

Then suddenly $15 for 4 missions and 4 totally new maps and some new game modes might not seem like such a bad deal.

But going on and on about how you are not going to spend your money sounds a lot like sour grapes. If you don't want the maps, or don't want to spend the money, no one cares. Lots of us can afford it, think it is a good value, and will buy it. It's a great way to add additional fun to a great game, and I don't have a problem with paying talented people who work hard to make good games.

thats bs. 15 dollars for 4 new maps that are all almost exactly like fishing village. and 5 new guns that suck. who cares about faces, and that new mode is just the territory with bots.
and they're probally comming out with like 2 or 4 more packs

so thats like 60$ + 60$ for the game + 600 dollars for the 360 + 30$ per controller
90$ for the hardrive

so in all you spend like 1500 $ on all the shi t you have to buy for it.
if i didnt get 5000 free points with those codes, i never would've bought it.

unfortunately i've already spent $120 on this game as my first disc was destroyed in the xbox... I would have been pleased with an 800 or less points download but I reluctantly downloaded the content anyway because for 2 or 3 more nights of split screen co-op on new maps with real friends is worth it imo

I am pretty dissappointed with Ubisofts choice of pricing....

I think the free market is going to sort all this out. Because so many of us won't buy it because of the price. And the game companys will learn what they can get away with and what they can't.

I think the problem is that many people here aren't used to paying for expansions which is basically what this is. PC games get add-ons like this too, only difference is u have to go purchase it in a store. Console gaming has evolved and downloadable content that you have to purchase is going to be the norm. 4 new maps which are used in the new online campaign as well as mutiplayer, 2 new game modes, 2 new camouflages, 4 new faces, 8 relit maps (which believe it or not add a fresh perpective to the existing maps) and 5 new guns. This is a pretty healthy expansion which in my opinion is worth the $15.

Um... just out of interest didnt GRAW on the pc get a pretty average review?

let me think.. oh yes 7.8 as opposed to 9.2 on the 360.

the fact of the matter is if you want this content aparently for free altho I havent verified it is then get the inferior PC version for the PC that cost more than a thousand dolars more than your 360... if not then pay the $15.

Anyway the fact of the matter is if you dont like the price then dont purchase the product and they will lower the price of future downloads. Myself I can afford the $15 and would quite like to play the new coop missions, along with the new maps. Oh and those who think that turning the brightness down on your TV will have the same effect as having the map lighting changed... good luck with that hope you have fune myself I think I'll stick with the tactical changes that it brings, but hey thats my prefrence .

Anyone that does not dowload this Added content is robbing themselves of a very detailed and immense content package. The new game modes rock. The new maps are huge and intense. And old favorites become fresh with a new perspective. Hiding in plain sight on nowhere rocks. At least it didnt come out the same as the usual Ubisoft expansion... same game new maps minus other maps packaged as a new title ... i.e Island Thunder and Summit Strike

It is a bit much for just a few extra levels.
But 1200 extra points, i don't usualy care about points but i like the game a lot and when people look at my achievement for the game want them to go wow he's good so the more achievements the better.

Good and bad. Actually it's great that they come back with all this stuff to download for some money. But 1200 points is too much for what it is i think.
400 for basic Arcade games and small downloads (COD2/PD0 maps)
800 for bigger Arcade games and big downloads (like this GRAW one)
1200 should only be for uberly big game downloads or for tops Arcade games (SFII Hyper...)

For all you people saying that we payed more for Halo maps, please remember that if you waited a little, you could download them for FREE. Yes, developers have to get paid, and microtransactions are good because developers have incentive to release new content. BUT 15 dollars is pretty dang expensive. I thought with microtransactions we would be getting nickled and dimed, but we're getting hamilton-ed and jackson-ed!

it took me all night to download I just kept my 360 on. The 4 new maps are extra nice. But not worth 15 bucks IMO unless your a diehard GRAW fan, even then 15 bucks is steep.
