EA feels Need for Speed again with Carbon

Latest installment in long-running series sets players loose in city streets, winding canyon courses on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and more.
By Brendan Sinclair, GameSpot

The Need for Speed franchise has come a long way since debuting on the ill-fated 3D0 system more than a decade ago, and it's about to go a little further. The Electronic Arts-published series' next installment, Need for Speed Carbon, will see the in-game action spill out of the sprawling city streets and into the world of canyon racing.

NFS Carbon

The E3 trailer for Need for Speed Carbon.
Watch | Download

At the game's outset, players will race as part of a crew "in an all-out war for the city, risking everything to take over your rivals' neighborhoods one block at a time." Police presence eventually forces the war out of the city proper, and the races continue on the treacherous roads of Carbon Canyon. EA is emphasizing customization options in Carbon, giving players the ability to set the configurations of their rides, as well as those of their crews.

While Carbon was first mentioned publicly in Sony's pre-Electronic Entertainment Expo conference this year, it hadn't been officially acknowledged by Electronic Arts until today. Need for Speed Carbon will be released this November on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, DS, Game Boy Advance, PSP, PC, and mobile phones.

when i played underground 1+ 2 i want to play at the sun at the day so much

when i am playing most wanted i miss the night and the dark so much

so please ea you have the money take the time but please make it that players can play in the 2 kind of day time

it got to have :
cops,alot of cars,real damege,repair cost , citizen cars,

about the real damege so i tought about it and it can be like a playing mode that you can change in the options like in most wanted when you can choose that you want or dont want damge to the car so you can choose if you want to play realisic mode or the reguler one the realistic mode will have things like when you crush your car realy hard like in 250 km in a car or a tree or a wall your car is dead you need to buy a new one if you do to much drift with the car the tires will blow up and you need to buy new ones take this game to anthor level and make it a dream come true for all the guys who want to race to be near it like they never was

I liked NFS MW and NFSU 2 and basically every EA racing game there is, but taking the action out of the city and into the Carbon Canyon sounds awesome! What I would like to see is damage effects, realistic ones (unlike the spectacular Burnout 3 ones, but still smashin' enough to be cool).

Not bad. Looks like EA is starting to get it together. Saw the video clip and it looked like some kind of muscle car (chevelle or something) was racing. Hope it's better than most wanted. Most wanted was good but had its flaws. Cutsceans were lame. I don't care if he was black and a cop. I would have kicked his a** or at least take his car out. Razor was such a punk I didn't care too much to get back at him. Espically when I had at least three cars that were a heck of a lot better then the M3. The soundtrack sucked too. Why did they have to try and make this game so "hip" and stuff. The Burnout games rule and they also have great soundtracks. One more thing. How about online play? R* has gotten that right so far. Love MC3 Remix, espically online. Some pointers for you EA. Watch the competition more.

its great they're releasing more NFS's...let's juss hope this one gives us more customising options and focuses more on the midnight illegal street racing feel. They need to add the old TUNERS...the Skylines, 350Z's, Civics, Acuras...the cars that u CAN customise in reality, not carrera GT's. Drags and drifts have got to come back in the game, otherwise its juss another MW

I liked the recent ones, but I feel MW was the best of the most recent, with HP2 comming in behind that. They really need to loose the underground scene and keep going with their exotics theme. Thats what it started out with and should remain. No one likes going fast in a civic except people who own civics. everyone however likes going fast in a Ferrari. It looks like this is going to be mostly drifting, which is cool in its own, but makes for a horrible racing game IMO. If it is mostly drifting then I will pass, I tolerated it in the underground series, but just barely.

who wants to just go around just racing, and wreaking this or blowing things up? huh? Boring! Care custumization is needed, with a great storyline like NFSMW,I wish to see pink slip race choices also in NFS games.I loved NFSMW and I bet I will love this one too.

Most Wanted was good. It was nice to see them make fun of the 'badass tuner crowd' with those cutscenes. I'll check out Carbon as long as I can still drive and run from the cops like in Most Wanted. (34min police chase, awsome)

I hope that this time we have Honda and Acura cars. The reason because I didn't buy Most Wanted was only because I couldn't drive my Acura RSX-S.

we'll see how this one goes but in Most wanted customization was severly taken out compared to Underground 2...the game may be hot but i wanna see more originality to the titles and im guessing there will be no cops in this one too, underround lacked em, most wanted threw u to the dogs of law enforcement (seriously the five levels of difficulty were severely harder with each level up), i want something in da middle

Why can't they just make a NFS game that is like Hot Pursuit 2? Something that actually focuses on gameplay rather than boring and usless customization.

I miss the Undergrounds. The first was cool because it was different and not many other games like it had been released, and Underground 2 improved heavily on the first. If this one doesn't have drag, drift, performance tuning, and better online than Most Wanted, I'm not buying it.
