Bandai Namco spins more Tales

New titles added to the 2006 Tales lineup--three slated for the PSP.

This year marks the 11th anniversary of Bandai Namco's Tales role-playing series, which debuted back in 1995 with Tales of Phantasia on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The publisher revealed through its official Tales Web site this week that it will be adding several more titles to the Tales lineup--in addition to Tales of Tempest, which was announced already.

The newly unveiled titles are a Sony PSP port of Tales of Phantasia: Full Voice Edition, another PSP title called Tales of The World: Radiant Mythology, and a PlayStation 2 port of Tales of Destiny. Furthermore, a port of Tales of Destiny 2 will be added to the PSP lineup in 2007.

Phantasia: Full Voice Edition is named so because, in contrast to the original PlayStation version of Phantasia, which added recorded voices to only some parts of the game, the PSP version has voices for the full main story. In addition, battles have been upgraded to allow three characters to fight instead of two, and some elements and characters from the original PlayStation and Game Boy Advance versions have been incorporated into gameplay. It's set for a September 7 release.

The Tales of Destiny update, scheduled for release this winter, is a drastic overhaul of the earlier PlayStation version. The game map will be rendered in full 3D, and combat will use a new system called Aerial Linear Motion Battle. As for Radiant Mythology, the latest in the Tales of the World spin-off series will let players create customized characters and will employ the Flex Range Linear Motion Battle system from Tales of the Abyss.

also Tales of PHANTASIA came out not too long ago on GBA, so its not true that Nintendo fans get none... but more Tales would be okay too...

What I meant was: There'll be 4 games to chose from (via import at first) if you own the PSP.

Very nice. This means that all in all there'll be 4 'Tales of...' games to chose from if you import your games. And I'm sure that at least(!) one of the newer titles will make it to the US and/or Europe.

Tales of the World most likely...

Even though - personally, I hope that it will be Tales of Destiny 2, as that looks very much like Tales of Eternia, which was absolutely fabulous.

Wow... an RPG for the PSP that people might actually want to play. I guess PSP owners will have something to brag about besides GTA:LCS.

Does anyone know if any of the Tales games are slated for release of the DS or GBA?

Guess I should Ebay my Tales of Destiny 1 and Tales of Destiny 2 for the PSOne while I can still get some decent cash for them.

I doubt the ported games will be released here in america, though Tales of the Tempest might have a shot.

Of course, I'm still holding off on a Tales game until I decide which game is the best purchase. Some fans say "Tales of the Abyss" is the best, but then again, some Suikoden fans say "Suikoden V" is the best of the franchise.

Okay, I need to post again because of the sheer idiocy.

    ALL TALES FANS LISTEN UP.

There is no point ia arguing with me on this because you WILL know it to be true. The following is a comparsion between the two bigger titles released for the Tales series here in the US:

Tales of Legendia: Good and Somewhat Suspensful Story, Repetitive and Sometimes Boring Gameplay

Tales of Symphonia: OVER cliched plot with predictable moments, excluding Kratos being a traitor but FANTASTIC and strategic gameplay.

When you go back and look at Symphonia, I swear at some point you will say, "Damn that story sucked!"

And when you look back on Legendia, you'll say, "Meh, I kept playing it to figure out what would happen..."

Currently the MOST popular game so far... is Tales of the Abyss, said by most fans to be the best Tales game ever. Coming here this fall, the team from Symphonia and the team from Legendia (Or at least this is what I have heard) pair up to make an intense and deep story with amazing gameplay and great animation. And that is what matters for the tales series because lets face it, if the Tales series is supposed to be anything, it's an anime stylized game without have an anime to be based on.

If you have been dissapointed so far, Tales of the Abyss will be the fix you need. And as most players were dissapointed with Legendia's lack of multiplayer, Abyss will support 4 player co-op.

Yes I know I am repeating what can be seen on Gamespot's info page, but a lot of people here seem to be talking like they have played the entire series yet all they have played is ToS, ToL or both.

Tales is gaining an audience here in america. Luckily it's got a big enough audience in japan that if sales here suck, it won't affect Namco at all because it really doesn't affect them.

what the hell? Tales of Legendia for PS2 was the best one so far?
u don't play many tales games do u?
simply tales of legend is the worst tales game ever, tales of symphonia and tales of rebirth is the best tales so far.
maybe tales of tempest wil be best Tales ever.
good for PSP owners, i don't own a psp and i don't think that i will get it any time soon, my DSLite is very fine with me.
Tales of series is my favourite RPG series, i like it more than FF, i just didn't like any FF game after FF VI, not just because after changed to a Sony console but they change the whole awsome art style, and change it to a more mature style, which doesn' suit my taste at all.

I'd like to see more Tales games on the GC and maybe see how they translate on to the Wii.

It's really lame how Namco focuses on one platform, they could make so much more money if they went multiplat.

What about Eternia on the PSP? Isn't that gonna come out?

Anyway, the PSP needs more good quality RPG's and the Tales series is perfect considering the linear battle systems and the limit of 6 buttons and a d-pad.

I really hope they don't plan to use the analog disc though.

Hopefully the battles in Tales of Phantasia on the PSP will happen faster than the GBA version and loading times will not be an issue. Full voiceovers will be great! Good news the whole way around! Hopefully these will all make it to the USA...
