360 demo of Prey hits delay

3D Realms prez goes on the record as saying demo for shooter won't be on Marketplace as expected, release should be soon.

While PC gamers have already begun sampling the gravity-defying, portal-hopping, Native-American-mythology-laden shooting action of Prey, Xbox 360 gamers have been frantically checking Xbox Live Marketplace, wondering where their demo is.

Unfortunately, the hunt can be called off today, as 3D Realms president George Broussard has announced that the 360 demo of the game has been delayed.

On the forums of the company's official Web site, Broussard posted a note late yesterday saying, "We do not want 360 [owners] waiting up for the demo or having false expectations. The 360 demo will not appear on Marketplace tonight. I'm still waiting for specifcs, but I'm being told that it's still in testing at Microsoft. From what I understand this isn't Microsoft's fault, and is more likely just an issue of timing."

So when can gamers expect to get a taste of some topsy-turvy first-person shooting action? Broussard says, "I'm hesitant to give any estimates for a release, but I've been told it should be reasonably soon after the PC release, but could be as long as a few days."

    I think you're wrong on that Andrewc989- can't run an online business from my X360. So they obviously didn't rip EVERYTHING. If you think that's bad, wait til PS3 hits. They're trying to REPLACE the PC.

    That is a good point PiMacloud, why is all of the the sudden people are comparing the X360 a console, to a PC? Never heard so much hating from PC users when NES, SNES, Saturn, PS1/ PS2 or Dreamcast were released. They are ALL consoles and you never heard a peep out of people saying "PC rules" or "PC is superior" and last I checked X360 is still a console. So die-hard PC users, why are you bashing it? That's just like bragging you can beat up on a five yr. old child. Maybe the next-gen IS closing the gap and they don't like that. Just stupid to me no matter what the next-gen consoles brings, it DOES NOT keep you from using your PC in any way. I don't hear any eerie, mesmerizing voice coming from my X360 in the living room -saying " DO NOT USE YOUR PC!" As for my PC, she knows (call my PC a "she"} I can't run my online business without her. So both have their purpose, neither machine argue with each other so why should we?

    I was going to wait until Halo 3 came out to buy a 360, but this game seems to be the turning point for me. Screw the whole "PC vs 360" dilemma, this looks like a FUN game

    Basic point, though....kickin' gaming PC costs about 3x more (minimum!) than a 360 w/HDD. I could use that extra cash to buy great TV. Or a controller and MORE games. ....or wait for it -- I could actually pay my bills! ....oh, that's right, there was something else... something called HD space. You install games to your PC's HDD. You don't do that on 360 (unless it's FFXI). So, that means I don't bog my PC down with more programs, and leave my gaming to the cheaper, yet comparible, platform.

    Don't get me wrong, I love my PC. Gaming has always been stronger on the PC -- but have you ever remembered a time where people would actually compare them this closely? Take that as a sign, people. Consoles are growing to that point.

    I keep hearing how the pc is better then the 360. The fact is the 360 is more powerfull then most pc's unless like said before you have a highend pc the 360 will waste it. The 360 you can watch infront of a big 50' hdtv instead of your pc monitor what fun is that. also the 360 you can just put the game in and play unlike a pc you have to install somtimes 3 or more cd's and let it install 20 mins. or on a pc you might get an error and your game won't even play. 360 is a lot less hassle. The prey demo was ok. I was expecting more maybe this game was over hyped. It looks good,but not great.

    Xbox Live Marketplace is still very small and young (especially when compared to the crap you can download on PC). The 360 library has alot of catching up to do. There's just more red tape to release it because it has to conform to Live standards (i.e. gamertag, etc.). PC is pretty much open to whatever.

    i_love_my_ds- You just keep living, you'll find out and learn alot more about things you never seen or heard before in life. This little "demo" delay is insignificent compared to what real life throws at you on a personal level.

    Yeah, I have been checking for this on Xbox live to. I know it will have to look better on my 360 than my PC. And so far it rocks on PC. I really can't wait till it is released come July.

    This Grinds My Gears I mean Im one of microsofts biggest Fans yet it pisses me off when they screw thier constituants. I bet they wait untill after the game is released like graw. I guess they think the game is going to suck sooo much that once they play the demo they wont buy so they hope to get the majority of people who will buy it on the first day.

    Whoever said that XBL only has shooters is sorely mistaken...and ye it sux i cant wait untill the Prey demo comes out, I could DL the PC version but i wanna see it full graphics(i can only push up to medium on my graphics card) and i'll only spoil the fun

    just played it on my pc (with everything wacked up and it looks awsome) but am i going to play it on my high end pc F*** NO ,I WILL GET IT FOR MY 360 SO I CAN PLAY IT ON A BIG HD SCREEN AND SURROUND SOUND SYSTEM WHICH MAKES FOR A FAR MORE IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE!

    Simple solution. Just download it for pc, since its already out. If you like it for pc, then buy it for 360. Thats what im gonna do, since the 360 version is a port from pc. No more waiting, im downloading!

    I was waiting for the 360 demo since I have my reserve at EB on the 360 version, but I also have a really nice PC.... so it looks like I will be downloading the PC demo for the meantime.

    I have a feeling about somethin....Let's just say I bet it's out monday for sure. Anyone else notice the new graw content came out today? And they are charging 15.00$ for it??

    It was said in one of the posts by the developer that it was probably just a matter of "timing" on MS part or somethin to that effect. You know that if they released the Prey demo at the same time as this paid content update they would be worried that more downloads would probably be going for the free stuff.

    Conspiracy theory? Heh we'll see monday lol.

    You do not need an expensive PC to run this game at full settings. Im sick of so many people being too scared to try a free demo and whining about how their PC couldnt handle it. JUST TRY THE DAMN THING.

    I have a geforce 6800 (cheap card these days) with an Athlon 64 3000+. The game runs perfect at 1280x1024 (max my monitor will allow since it doesnt support true widescreen resolutions like 1680x1050), everything at the highest setting including 4x AA and 16x AF.

    If you can play Doom 3 then you can play this game just fine, its the same performance. The demo lacks Ultra quality textures but usually that doesnt make a bit of difference in visuals anyways.

    I'm getting it for PC and 360 played the demo last night ,it's awsome played the multi-play and guess what? AWSOME heh if you can run it it's worth it.
