Lara's date with PSP announced

Tomb Raider: Legend for Sony's handheld will be released later this month; exclusive PSP content includes multiplayer, skins, wallpaper.

Lara Croft's latest adventure has already raided consoles in both the US and UK, but her exploration of American handhelds begins later this month. Tomb Raider: Legend for the PlayStation Portable hits North America on June 21; the game was released in the UK on June 9.

The PSP version is a port of the PlayStation 2 version, with some features exclusive to Sony's handheld. Taking advantage of the PSP's Wi-Fi functions, this version will have three multiplayer modes that feature "multiplayer racing, fast-paced head-to-head treasure hunts, and extreme obstacle courses." Tomb raidin' PSPs will also get new skins for Ms. Croft, image galleries, wallpapers, and exclusive songs on the game's soundtrack.

Tomb Raider: Legend is also headed to Nintendo's DS and Game Boy Advance later this year. For more information on the game, check out GameSpot's preview of the PSP version, or dig up the PlayStation 2 review.

You people complaining about needing all new content in your PSP version have no idea how the industry works, do you? Opening this franchise up to more platforms is a great move by Eidos that will expose Tomb Raider to a whole new legion of fans. Plus, I like the option of being able to choose what platform I want to use for a specific game. A game that only takes a few hours sounds like a perfect fit for a portable conversion.

its not online, they said 'taking advantage of psps wifi capabilities", not an online mulitplayer mode. Doubt anyone will be able to find another person to play the multiplayer mode though.

I dont own the newest consoles, at least until PS3 drops a notch in price next year.
But i enjoy the PSP for when I'm not on a PC or watching TV. And is great whn your away from home. Been a Lara Croft fan since the Original, so a PSP with some nice nice touches for the Portable rocks. Ans Juanfraino, yer missin out, man

This should be an interesting game. If they can make good use of the PSP capabilities, then the game will be awesome!!! It's good to read that Eidos is bringing the game to more platforms.

This is out in europe now.
I find it impressive that they actually got the whole game on to a UMD, nothing has been ripped out. and it looks quite good.

The bad thing is that it's just a bad port, the framerate really sucks, sometimes it's just like playing Myst.
since you only have one analog stick the controls also suck. they are really unprecise.

    That's my 2 cents

Obstacle courses in the old Tomb Raider were always fun to do. I haven't played this version, but an old butler sure would be awesome, or even just the mansion. I hope the old ones are released for the PS1 PSP emulator.

I would have rather seen them put Tomb Raider 1, 2, and 3 in a collection on one UMD.... but definately not a port of the new Legend, because i just finished playing it and beating it. I was already mad at myself for paying $50 for such a short game the first time... I'm definately not going to make that mistake again with this PSP port.

  • EvanO_O

    Posted Jun 13, 2006 3:11 pm PT

Meh, a dumbed down port. This will in no way exceed the console, nor will it provide it's own unique experience considering it will play remotely like the PS2 version.

Can it be called a port if it comes out less than two months later? I just assume that they would've liked to release alongside the other versions (in fact, it was originally slated to come out a week or two after the others), but were unable to do so because they had to tweak the game a little more, which is understandable when translating to a handheld. I can see how no one would buy it if they own(ed) a console or PC version. But for those who don't have the console versions, it may be a good option. So for any of you complaining and wishing it would be a new TR game.....screw that! That seems a bit excessive.

I think the game took maybe 6 hours. I still don't understand why someone would buy a port, but a hey if you want a slimed down version go ahead.

I rented it for my 360 and liked it I might want to go out and try it also on my PSP.I also can't wait until the next Lara Croft game comes out.THat being the 10 anniversary one. With a couple of old games in one with a couple of other goodies too. That one will only be on the PSP and I for one am looking forward to that one more but this is good too.

    they did add multiplayer.

A new game of some kind would have been better seeing as how it wasnt going to release around the console versions. I wont buy UMD movies over cus I already own em on DVD, and this isnt any better.

    Posted Jun 13, 2006 12:05 pm PT

Its funny how they say the word exclusive so much like its gonna make a difference if we will buy it or not, these people need to step up their game and make like a whole new tomb raider for PSP and stop being lazy, I could see if they added online multiplayer modes or something and some new story lines.

Racing with laracroft??? seems funny. Anyways better be nice game(since its not a direct port and all)

This game was pretty good on the XBox, finished it in no time though. The PSP version is not worth getting, since the multiplayer modes announced seem to be quite dull.
