Retail Radar: New Growlanser, Warhammer for PSP?

Wal-Mart database of upcoming games says Atlus is bringing over a new installment in role-playing series while Namco drops the hammer on Sony's portable.

Today's installment of the Retail Radar comes from a Wal-Mart database of upcoming games. Amidst the myriad of new games based on Cartoon Network properties, such as Kim Possible and other kid's fare, a pair of listings stood out from the crowd. It seems Wal-Mart is expecting shipments of Warhammer Warcry for the PlayStation Portable later this year, courtesy of Namco, and Growlanser for the PlayStation 2 early next year from Atlus.

No information was given about either game outside of their publishers and UPC numbers. However, given that the Warhammer customizable card game is called Warhammer: WarCry, it would seem that any PSP release bearing that name would be based on the card game.

As for Growlanser, the long-running Atlus Japanese role-playing game series, this would be the first time that it made it to US shores with Atlus as its publisher. In 2004, Growlanser II and III were released in America courtesy of the now-defunct Working Designs as Growlanser Generations. But there's no telling if Atlus would pick up where Working Designs left off and bring over Growlanser IV: Wayfarer of Time or if it would skip ahead in the series and import Grownlaser IV: Return (a series of side stories to the original), or the upcoming Growlanser V: Generations (no relation to Working Designs' US release).

An Atlus representative declined to comment on the Growlanser listing, while Namco Bandai representatives had not returned requests for comment as of press time.

Please note, while retailer listings frequently jump the gun on publishers' product announcements, they should not be taken as final confirmation of a game's existence, nor should the absence of a listing be considered as proof that a game isn't coming to a given platform.

The PSP is an awesome system I absoultely love mine! Why people seem to think its failing is beyond be

Hardware and Software sales are doing well. GTA Liberty City Stories has sold almost 3 million units worldwide.

It also has one of the best future line ups of any system. And its nice to see even more developers supporting it.

Isn't Kim Possible part of Disney? I don't know. Every one owns everyone else now a day.

Give us Marvel VS. or Magic online drafts with a PSP would be great but Warhammer come one. Do they still even make it anymore last I saw you could get a box of it for half what it cost when it came out.

I pray. Growlanser II and III were incredible on the PS2. I had a blast playing them. I'm hoping for this alot.

I don't have a PSP right now for lack of games I want to play on it. But I know there will be something to tip my hand. I'm just waiting for it. And warhammer might be fun to play on it. We'll see how it all plays out.

Especially in the case like this, Some games are coming to PSP or PS2, OK, cool, nothing offensive....and yet, BAM, here are the fanboys posting degrading comment. Man these kids are so twisted.

heh, s'all good; didn't mean anything by it. was just saying, conceptually

noxian - all I meant was that if Working Designs were still around, they would probably have published more Growlanser games since Atlus wasn't interested regardless of 'whose' game it is. So when I said that Atlus was picking up the slack, I meant that Atlus is now publishing games that Working Designs would have and that I guess is the silver lining of working designs going out of business.

I don't care which Growlanser it is, I'll take anything cuz Growlanser Generations was awesome!!! I'm so glad Atlus is picking up the slack after Working Designs went down. Long live Atlus!!!!!!!!!!
    ----------------------------
just a side comment, but is it really "picking up the slack" when the game is Atlus's in the first place??? Kind of makes it sound like the game's Working Design's and Atlus is just picked it up afterwards. If anything it would be WD that was picking up for Atlus cause Atlus refused to bring the series to the US themselves.

It would be great to see more RPGs for the beloved PSP. With all due respect to those who feel the PSP is a waste of time. I am sorry to hear that. However, the PSP is a great product with multiple uses. Plus, when the PS3 is released, the PSP will be automatically integrated with the PS3. Needless to say, I think the PSP has a lot of potential.

only reason salesof the ds slipped last month in the US because its rumored to being discountinued and because the wait for the ds lite next time get yall facts straight

  • blackIceJoe

    Posted Jun 12, 2006 6:03 pm GMT

Sorry gcuber123 I have to tell you where you are wrong in the US the PSP is a lot closer then you would think even last month it sold more the the DS.
Plus it has a big fan base just because people in Japan are all for the DS does not mean in every other country it sells bad.In Australia it sells a lot more then the DS you just have to look and you will see that the PSP is selling.

There are a lot of good games out there for the PSP more then most people think but there is.Plus the PSP has a big fan base with adults why because it is a gadget that is easy to carry around plus can store a lot of things like pictures, movies, music stuff like that plus it has a web browser not the most user friendly but can still be used.

The Growlanser V has been rumored for a while, if you read the Atlus USA message boards (they also predicted Rule of Rose...).

The PSP might not be selling great in the US right now, but is the #2 selling system in Japan (behind the DS) and has a decent sized user base that it's profitable to support.
