Golden Tee drives home

Popular arcade cabinet getting home version makeover; $500 stand-up machine will include trackball, four-player action.

For many golf gamers, playing a few rounds of Golden Tee, the popular arcade game, is much like real golf. That is, it involves a copious amount of beer. The game is a common fixture in sports bars, where the trackball controls and worldwide rankings have made it a favorite among the chicken-wing-eating crowd. Later this year, fans won't have to go all the way to the local watering hole to get their fix, as Big Electronic Games has announced it is making a home version of Golden Tee, complete with stand-up cabinet, trackball, and color monitor. The Golden Tee Clubhouse Edition Big Games Home Video Arcade Machine, based on the Golden Tee 3D Golf series, will be available this fall for $500.     Yeah, it would be real cool for parties at your house, until one of your drunk buddies breaks it or you realize that partying at your house isn't cool. A key aspect to Golden Tee is that it gives you something to do while you scope out the bar. This comes off less creepy than sitting at the bar or standing to the side and acting like you are watching TV.

    Wasn't fun at the bar for a quarter, and I bet you it won't be fun at home for $500 bucks.

    Pretty cool I guess but their website is pretty crappy and does give alot of information on anything. Also who would buy it when there is the PS3 and Wii coming out....

    that midway cabinet looks undersized and cheap. Golden Tee would be the ultimate rec-room game, but for $500, you'd be best off tracking down a real cabinet from 98 or 99.

    Ugh, it's being made by the same company that made that super crappy Midway 'arcade' cabinet that you see at Target's for sell. Even if I liked Golden Tee, I wouldn't pick this crap up.

    Heck, they even have a Golden Tee machine in the room where they shoot the news anchors in Columbus.

    It would be great for beer-tastic parties at your house. I'd rather see it for a console with the trackball as an ad-on through USB.

    Golden Tee on the 360 would be amazing... But for $500 a standalone machine is a good buy

    That's cool and all, but how about just making a 360, PS3, or Wii port and make a trackball controller instead? I don't have $500 lying around for a single golf game.

    I wonder if it includes beer and wings? I think I'll stay at the bar for the nice scenery, plus, playing this at home, i think, would take away the novelty of playing it exclusively at the bar.
