Man steals 60 games in pants

A Myrtle Beach thief managed to nick dozens of PSP games from a Blockbuster; man simply stuck them in his pants.

Sometimes the simplest plans are the most effective. One gamer managed to steal 60 PlayStation Portable games from a Myrtle Beach Blockbuster yesterday, not by digging a tunnel or using some secret spy equipment--he simply stuck them in his pants, reports Myrtlebeachonline.com. According to a police report, his "pants were bulging out because he had so many games [in them]." An employee, who had observed the thief shoving PSP games in his pants, asked him to stop as he was leaving the store, but the perpetrator fled in a rental car. The value of the games is estimated at $1,800.

The thief was stupid. He could have gotten away had he not stolen so much...

My plan would have been to put a few in my pants, rent a couple movies, and steal them over a time period of a couple weeks...

sk1 is right. I worked as a CSR for Blockbuster while attending college in the early '90's. I witnessed some kid shove a couple of VHS(long time ago) tapes in his pants. My manager and I chased him from the store and he almost got nailed by a car while running across the street. After seeing this we stopped chasing. Later that month there was a huge regional meeting about what to do when a thief attempted to leave a store. Needless to say, chasing the thief was no longer an option and niether was restraining them. The worst part of the whole ordeal had to be the thief's selection of merchandise. They were some cheesy "R" rated skin-flicks. Poor kid.

No kidding. With all the games on Ebay that get sold by people who sell A LOT of games on ebay, this is an extreme example of something pretty common.

Laugh all you want because Blockbuster FORBIDS its employees from physically restraining shoplifters in any way. I know a (former) mgr who was fired after he tripped a thief who was fleeing from his store. That's how they thanked him for saving them about a grand in merchandise. I guess ghsacidman only gets his news from gamespot because Blockbuster stopped its fees about a year ago and as to profits I think its been about a year since they 've seen those as well. They'll be gone in a year or so anyway (sooner if netflix wins its copyright lawsuit) so who cares anyway. I wonder if the ghs stands for god hates stupid acidman? Hmm. I personally am not a fan of Blockbuster but I don't think they deserve anything bad that happens to them. Think about all the stores they have, that's a lot of people out of work and that's not cool at all!

My only question is how he ran away with 60 psp games in his pants!!! I mean I don't think I could out run the people at blockbuster period,so how did he escape with 60 games in his pants????

wha'ts funny is how people honestly think this guy took 60 DIFFER games......did you guys ever think that maybe he stole more than one copy of a game?? That's just my own you know, thought process into this whole thing. And for the 4 year old nintendo losers there are alot more than just 4 games worthy of taking, go back to playing "lets count sand" or whatever "innovative" trashlore miyamoto puts out again.

That's actually pretty funny...60 games huh? Being a PSP owner, I can comfortably assume that about 8 of those are actually worth playing...

You know whats sad about what your saying? That no one knows who you are or wether what you say is true or not, just the same as you have no idea why the articles thief did what he did. According to you he deserves to rot in jail, etc. right? If you dont know why he did it then why would he deserve it? Blind Righteousness can be far worse than Grand Theft, especially considering the circumstances, so id be best if you stopped contradicting yourself and telling people their parents raised them wrong. True the thief couldve just been a scoundrel who deserved punishment for his crimes, but corruption stems far deeper than the eyes of the beholder can see, and hence, none of us, without proper evidence, are really in any position to comment on this theft. THIS is why the human race is the way it is today.

you know this shows how pathtic blockbuster is. The guy has 60 game cases in his pants( which probably didn't have any games in them because blockbuster keeps their games in a storage cabinet) so he would have a hard time walking because he has 60 GAMES IN HIS PANTS!! And they couldn't catch him.

Ok, well I work in retail as well. And about raises: They are part of a system. Most retail stores do a yearly review, and if you're review is high enough, you get a percentage raise in pay. That usually leaves you with around 20 or 30 more cents on to your hourly rate. All the stores part of a corporation have the same procedures. This guy stealing from Blockbuster probably doesn't effect their raises since it's just standard procedure and the managers of the store don't have much say in it anyway. But, like the poster who was defending the thief said, Blockbuster will barely see a hit in sales. Therefor, there was no reason to steal from a moral standpoint. Sometimes, stealing can be justified, but I highly doubt this is one of those times.

Also, to the people who say "What a dumb***, why didn't he lock the doors? Why did he wait for him to leave?" It's because by law, there's absolutely nothing you can do before he tries to leave the store. He watched him put the games in his pants, and of course, the employee knew he was trying to steal. But that's why he waited till he was leaving the store before he acted on it, because that's the law. The employee isn't at fault here. He did what he could do. Plus, being payed minimum wage or slightly more, and being treated poorly by management every day, would you even care? I know I wouldn't.

Andydumi, you idiot, entrapment is creating a situation with the hope of forcing someone to commit a crime, not locking them in somewhere, that would be called 'locking them in somewhere'

I work in retail and just to let you all know that when you steal from a store the loss comes off the bottom line which is used to give raises to the employees. So when you steal your stealing from the person who is had working trying to feed his family or pay for his education and you are not sticking it to THE MAN but the hard working employee.

And by the way: Robin Hood was a fictional story and I doubt this kid was going to distribute the games to the poor childeren with $300 portable consoles in his local ghetto.

Stealing from a corporation is still stealing. We aren't talking about copying the games, we are talking about taking something that doesn't belong to you. But I'm sure this low life would never steal from a person... but then again HOW WOULD "I" KNOW?

I can't believe any of you people are applauding a thief! This makes me sad for the future of the human race. I blame your parents for raising you with no morals or most likely letting the television raise you. Maybe Jack Thompson will figure out that GTA is not the problem. Lack of parents that bother with raising thier children is the problem.

ghsacidman: You have obviously never been a victim of some low life that is too lazy to work for what they want as the rest of society does and steals things that you hold dear. I guess you would still be with this idea of what it means to be a thief if someone broke into your house, stole 3 xboxes, 25+ games, a laptop, digital camera, and your DVD player... They don't steal to "stick it to the man". They steal because they are lazy low life bastards with a poor upbringing and sence of decency. All thieves should be raped in prison, repeatedly while it is being televised while thier families watch. Oh, then boiled in oil."

Take it easy. The guy stole from Block Buster Video! He didn't steal from an actual person. It would be different even if he stole from some Mom & Pop store. Block Buster can recoup those losses easy because they are a big corporation so no one feels sorry for them. It's kind of like Robin Hood. He stole from the "rich" and gave to the "poor". He was loved because those rich folks could recoup their losses easily. If he stole from the poor then he would've been a bastard. There's a difference!

Were they the discs themselves, or PSP cases, or DVD-sized rental cases? Each one is progressively more impressive considering they're all crammed in his pants. Must not have been much else in there.
