NBA Live 07 to be PS3 launch title

EA confirms baller will be on shelf with PS3 day one; Dallas Mavericks win basketball championship in NBA Live simulation.

In a seemingly innocuous press release from Electronic Arts today, the company announced some great news for b-ballin' PlayStation 3 fans. Touting an NBA Finals simulation on NBA Live, the publisher snuck in the fact that NBA Live 07 will be a launch title for Sony's next-gen system.

"NBA Live 07 will be available this fall on the Xbox 360 and Xbox video game systems, the PlayStation 2, PSP handheld system, and PC. It will also be one of the EA Sports titles available at launch of the PS3 entertainment system," says the statement.

The phrase "one of the EA Sports titles" indicates that the publisher is readying more sports games for the PS3 launch, which isn't surprising, as it helped the Xbox 360 launch with four EA Sports games--Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06, Madden NFL 06, FIFA 06: Road to the FIFA World Cup, and NBA Live 06. There's no word on what other EA games will be ready for the PS3's launch, though a version of Fight Night was demonstrated at Sony's E3 conference in 2005.

NBA Live 07 played a significant role in EA's portion of Sony's pre-E3 conference. A video showed off the game's new procedural awareness, foot planting, and responsiveness mechanics, and a demo showed gameplay being run in real time on simulated PS3 hardware.

EA also released the results of its NBA Live simulation of the NBA Finals, and Shaq-Fu won't be happy with the results. Though the real NBA Finals don't begin tomorrow, EA's basketball game predicts that the Dallas Mavericks will win the franchise's first title in seven games over the Miami Heat.

Dallas forward Dirk Nowitzki took home the sim's MVP of the series, averaging more than 25 points and 10 rebounds over the seven games. His greatest contribution came on an offensive rebound and dunk in the final seconds of the deciding game to put his team ahead 90-88.

Facing elimination, Miami stormed back from a three-games-to-one deficit to tie it at three apiece, before losing the final game. Heat center Shaquille O'Neal sparked a valiant game-six effort with 28 points and 11 rebounds, forcing a game seven.

EA did not specify which version of NBA Live was used in the sim, nor did it say what platform it was played on.

    The game looked great in the E3 demo. I'm sure that people at EA are working hard in order to meet the deadline of the PS3 launch. If they can offer great software from day one, then the PS3 will be very succesful.

    That's one of 10 EA games planned for launch. Since Sony said it was planning on releasing 15 games at launch, that leaves about 5 games from other developers. Nice going on the variety there Sony.

    Sometimes its funny how people say "who's going to buys" statement. Some people believe they are the center of the game market place and no one is going to buy the games they hate or systems.

    The game is NBA Live 06. It doesn't show any of the new "technology" that was shown at E3. Read the last sentence that was put in plain site for every dummy to see. How come nobody spoke on that? Just look at it. It's 06 with a few new animations and a faster fps. It looks like it could be 45 or even 60. I'm definitely going to say that this was alread expected. I don't think they'll show their stuff for another couple of weeks. They seem to be taking the Visual Concepts approach to showing media and stuff.

    Also, PS3 & XBOX 360 aren't going to be different if the developers have anything to say about it. It's too darn early. Kats need to relax....and hold a dictionary by your computer to look up some of those words.........

    This is about the PS3 NBA 2k7 game, not about the 360 or Wii. Just to put this in: why buy NBA games every year with the updated roster? What is going to be so impressive and amazing that warrants a purchase? Just doesn't appeal to me.

    thye need to give me MGS4 and Devil May Cry and FF as launch titles for me to fork 700 for it... im just getting an apple laptop top for that price

    Maybe you all should wait before you throw in the towel, or wave the victory flag. It's very possible that Live '07 will miss certain features just like games for the 360 did. Or maybe EA will learn that most gamers will take a month or 2 of waiting to get a "full" game. Nawww, that won't happen, then they'd miss the launch window where people will buy anything to play on their new system.

    Zane182- i dont think its close minded, i myself was open minded about the ps3, i even cosidered to get it. but when you get the fact that sony is a bit arrogant in believing there the best -even better than a pc- makes me angry. So its not us Wii60 fans that are close-minded, its sony that is the one that treats the competitors as inferior. Im all against that way of thinking. plus, 600 for 1 console is a bit too much when you can clearly get a Wii and a 360 for the same price. Wii60 F-T-W!!!

    I wounder what system the 08 version will look best on??? LOL at 34 years of age I can smell that PS3 envy starting to brew, And you all thought it would never be here for real lol!! Months before will soon be months after. I would of thought by now the 360 would "or should have had a huge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! plus 1 year start in mega Softwear! I messed up on that guess. Microsoft just is?? Their doing okish at best, their getting sorta on the right track, but their just not quite that appealing yet. PS3 has this thing won if they just show up. But The Next NEXT GEN, down the road, might finally be a new winner. PS3 looks to be "to the surprise again! Of the ""X-perts who said Sega would own Sony twice, both times they were wrong. Give a guy a title and a magazine column to write on, and all of a sudden hes a phychic. I think the X-perts are off again, And it looks like Sony is heading for a 3 peat. "meaning 3 wins in a row." But I have to say, I dont think they will get a 4th. Microsoft, after two sub pars, might finally get the idea pretty well a good 6 to 7 years from now. They Need to learn that Next is Next, not the best of now. And a few more things, but their doing ok.

    Lol i don't think anyone including Sony expects you to buy a $600 console guys just for a sports title...but how many people who are fans of sports would be pissed off if they didn't release the obligitary nfl, nhl, nba, pro evo etc. You spend all that money for your triple A title....and you can't even play a game of your favourite sport... Maybe this isn't the hook line and sinker title, and it's not intending to be

    And some people were saying it will be a PS3 exclusive, just because EA showed off some stuff at the E3 Sony Conference. But as always EA doesnt dissapoint any b-ball fans and will be released on all systems (Of course not on the Nintendos systems)

    considering how many people would get a ps3 just to keep their fav series going, its suprising anyone believes it will end in failure for sony. sure they may not win this time, but they wont suck just cause of high price.

    How can they not put there NBA game on a Nintendo console thats just plain dumb, BTW you dont have to use the Wiimote to play Wii games all the time you can use the GameCube controller or the Wii shell. I just hope 2K7 is on the Wii a much better game.

    Well, I will get one (PS3) eventually because I must have Final Fantasy and a few other games but never been much into sports games... so this doesn't interest me... just waiting for my Wii and about a year later, a PS3
