Next Oblivion add-on detailed

For a fee, players will be able to explore the largest dungeon in the game and earn a Daedric artifact that can kill enemies instantly.

The world of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was already pretty huge when the game shipped for the PC and Xbox 360 in March, but Bethesda Softworks keeps adding to it with downloadable content. The company has now unveiled the fifth add-on for the game, Mehrunes' Razor, in a new page on the Oblivion Downloads Web site.

The new quest revolves around a powerful mage who has set off in search of the Daedric Artifact Mehrunes' Razor. The Razor has the ability to instantly kill enemies, and the mage intends to use it to overthrow the Empire. It's up to the players to ensure that power doesn't fall into the wrong hands--or at least, anyone else's wrong hands.

Mehrunes' Razor will be the most expensive download yet, coming in at $2.99 for PC users (there's no price yet for the Xbox Marketplace edition, but previous Oblivion downloads have sold for roughly the same amount on PC and Xbox 360). For that fee, players will get to explore a dungeon larger than any in the regular game and earn the Razor itself. The quest will also add 17 new magic items and a dozen new books, notes, and journals to read.

If only they would put together a comprehensive add on with the mod community best improvements and all the new Bethesda content.....

Charging us for mods that we can get free from fellow gamers and modders is like spitting in our faces. Maybe I was expecting more from Bethesda than I should, but it would be nice if they freely contributed towards the community that has formed around their excellent game, rather than fleecing an otherwise nice feature (modability) to make extra money. Come on, Bethesda...show us some love.

it will make the game to easy with that weapon

Well have to say - I downloaded the previous official add-ons expecting them to be worthy additions to the game, but alas they were not. The Orrery was a complete disappointment - quest was easy, end result some more spells - like I need any I got about a 1000 already! Thieves Den, why do I need a ship that don’t go nowhere and more money? Its not like I need the cash anyway. Frostcrag spire - nice looking building from the outside - but completely pointless.

Come on Bethesda try to come up with something a bit more entertaining and involving than you have so far - how about some new lands - a few more different races to battle with or even join up with. More challenging quests - new monsters - come on you have created a wonderful game engine be creative!

I love the add-ons and the price is no big deal. However, what we really need right now are patches. Some of the guilds can't be finished due to glithces.

these should be free- and their making the wrong addons. The game doesnt need more weapons, it needs more ways to do stuff and options (like getting married or having characters that are kids)

you could have got the pirate ship for your rogue. that would seem more apropriate

    Posted Jun 4, 2006 3:25 am PT

I would say it will be a bit more than the last ones, or maybe just as much as the horse armour download because not only do you get a new quest in this one, lots of terrain is added and new items excluding the razor is added. Cant wait XD

Oh my god all the plp complaning one point you dont have to buy the expansions so stop making out you all do there is enough content in the game already. I have brought one of the expansions for my Rogue thats it what the hell is my Rogue gonna do with a Mage Tower. It sounds like some of you are compelled to buy even tho you dont like the idea?

Hopefully, the razor will have very few charges and a rediculously high recharge.

That would sorta balance it out, but I wonder what happens if I use maherunes razor Meherunes Dagon....

Kill enemies instantly, that makes the game a whole lotta fun. Just keep your finger on the trigger, don't use your brain or anything, just be cheap.

  • 03181972

    Posted Jun 3, 2006 8:23 am PT

Killing enemies instantly sounds like a good idea , I think it takes away from the enjoyment of bashing the crap out of your foe. Besides when you
get a high enough level most enemies are easy.

Does no one think that some of this content was in the game already? I've got a feeling some of this stuff, especially the horse armour, was just cut out of the final version and is being sold back to gamers for extra. If you check out the early shots of the game I'm sure there were shots of a horse in armour :S. After 4 years in development surley they could have waited a bit longer.

Agreed. These expansions do no harm to those who don't want them. It's not even like a multiplayer game where not having the latest expansions excludes you from certain games.

For $50 to $70, you get an incredible amount of gameplay (number of hours). If you're still salivating for more, go get the expansions. If you had your fill, go play Kameo: Elements of Power or something.

Why do people complain about optional pay-to-play content? The reality is, before they started doing this, you would not get this content AT ALL --unless it was made for a sequel or something, in which case you'd pay for it in the sequel's price.

In the past, a console user would buy a game and whatever was in the game was it -- end of story. Whatever could be done by the developers by whatever deadline would be in the game, and that's all you'd get (yeah yeah I know PC modders can do free content for alot of games but we're talking consoles here). Now, you get an extension to the life of your game if you want to pay for it. If you don't, then you don't have to pay for it. The idea that the game can continue to grow after having bought it is pretty novel - for console users anyways.

One could argue that the download is not "worth" $2.99 -- then vote with your wallet and don't buy it. Value, in this case, is going to be determined by how much people are willing to pay. Obviously, enough people feel it's worth it or they wouldn't be so successful with these downloads. It's a free market, people.

What a rip off. There is no way I will be buying any of the Oblivion content. I love Oblivion, but I already spent enough on the game itself. I don't feel like paying $3 just so I can get a "cool" magic item.

Im sorry 2.99 just dont drink Coke or eat crisps god its not that hard.

Ps the problem with oblivion was that its dungeons were all samey they should have recruited the fan community as semi slave labour to create a load of mini storues and maps + ideas for each dungeon.

When are we going to get an update for the 360 to fix all the bugs they know about enough with the add-ons. Fixes to stupid bugs that's what we need I went on Google and searched for some infomation. They only thing they've done it release a BETA for the PC.

Yet they promise a fix for the 360 not everyone is on LIVE! you know would be nice if they released a BETA fix for the 360 evens for people offline.

Oh, and this is much better than a full fledged expansion because you can buy what you actually might want to see. Also, the prices are bound to drop in the future; don't forget about that
