New Super Mario Bros. jumps into number-one slot of Best Buy's bestseller list; DS duo leads Xbox 360- and PS2-heavy top 10.

For months, games for the Nintendo DS have topped the bestseller lists in Japan, with brain-training games showing sustained popularity. Now that trend is being repeated across the Pacific. According to online sales figures reported to GameSpot by national retailer Best Buy, the two most popular games for the week of May 14 were both for Nintendo's dual-screen portable. New Super Mario Bros. was the number-one game, followed by Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day, which has remained in the top 10 since its release a month ago.

But while the DS ruled the roost at retailers this week, games for Nintendo's other platforms were nowhere to be found in the top 10. The remaining eight slots were split between Sony's current-generation console and Microsoft's next-gen machine. Places three through six were all Xbox 360 titles--The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, The collector's edition of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and Madden NFL 06. Behind the quartet was a trio of PlayStation 2 titles--Kingdom Hearts II (seventh), Madden NFL 2006 (eighth), and Genji Dawn of the Samurai (ninth). Finally, bringing up the rear was recurring favorite Call of Duty 2 for the Xbox 360.

glad to see people are finally playing Genji. It's a solid title and a really, really fun game. of course it's a bit short but that's not reason not to buy it because it's definitly fun and a solid Samurai action game...

Nintendo has stolen the show at E3, and now with all this, I'm sure they can be the company of the Year.

Why every fanboy thinks PS3 is going to NOT have the few issues 360 had, like few games; 3% of defects and such (I'm saving some comments for the years end, than we'll have a good laugh).
PSP's declining real fast, I'm really sorry to have one, I rather have my 250Eur. so I could spend on 360 games.

And ridicule comments about PS2 still "battles" with the brand new 360, man.. how unintelligent is that ? there are how many PS2 ??? and how many 360 ???, How many games are for PS2 and for 360 ? I would say 360 is looking very, very good.

About MS declaring death to XB: it's not MS that develops games (not the majority at least), can some of you please think (just a bit) before posting ?, It's only understandable that developers prefer to do a greater artistic job by developing to the best machine arround. How would you feel to keep developing to a 800Mhz machine ?

PS3 is backwards compatible, so, so... better wait to see, don't you think ? The "7 controllers/2x HDMI/NO SKU's, that's for loosers" machine might still have some "surprises"...

off-topic: Oblivion in my new Samsung LCD HD-TV, is simply mind blowing... (sorry for the bragging, couldn't sustain myself).
    Peace.

Er, sorry for the double post, but Bloodhawk sounds quite biased against Nintendo. For one thing, DS is leading handheld sales in the US, and outright destroying EVERYTHING in Japan (PS2 included), so people are already buying it. Second, to say it's the same Mario Madness is to say Kingdom Hearts II and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter are the same thing as predecessors. Hell, don't even get me started on Madden. >_>

Also, if you read the reviews for NSMB, you'll see even IGN (the most anti-Nintendo reviewing site counted on GameRankings) gave it a great score, so obviously it's pretty good.

Wow, NSMB kicking ass as expected (a handheld game beating out home console juggernauts, most of which are possible GoTYs isn't something I see very often). Brain Age is surprising me. I was sure it was going to sell like crap because of all the "Oh look, Brain Age. Haha a NERD game." comments bound to be said. The XBox360 is easily taking top 10 spots with the only competition being current-gen games and the handhelds. PS2 is basically feeding off of what current-gen gamers are left. I think it should be said that Genji is likely selling as well as it is because of the Genji 2 showing at E3. GIANT ENEMY CRAB! Attack it's weak point for MASSIVE DAMAGE!

... Anyway, GBA is well on it's death bed with only a few games left to come out, and Gamecube feels dead already with Super Paper Mario being the only worthwhile game left to come out for it.

Everyone gets their time. However in my eyes the games are still very mundane. If there was anything better on the DS I'm sure people would buy it. Nintendo keeps throwing them the same Mario madness... and like a bunch of faithful puppies their funs suck it up like it's gold plated and chocolate filled.

    It's already boring.

I wouldn't trust anything from best buy. They'll make up any lie they can to sell useless extended warranties and that seems to be all the employees are interested in. Despite what they lead you to believe, they don't accept any returns either due to excessive laziness (again with the lies) or due to the fact they must make maximum profit at any cost. Sure, they have a counter that says customer service but it certainly isn't provided by them. I hate the fact gamspot deals with this scandalous company. Just look on the web to sites such as bestbuysucks.com and see what others think! They need to change thier name to WORST SERVICE as this describes nearly anyone's shopping experience.

all this crap about nintendo and microsoft winning the console war is just plain fanboyism.I own a 360 but i dont brag about it like tht.DS is doing gr8 and is clobbering psp we all know tht.But u cant ignore even after 6 yrs there are 3 ps2 games and no xbox.Of course there are 360 games but its only natural cauz its next-gen.All in all,im happy tht 360 is doing well so tht sony can wake up from their sleep and give a good ps3.

I love Nintendo, but I also love my PS2. Games like NSMB and Kingdom Hearts are great because even my wife likes them (my wife almost never touches a PS2 game.) We can't wait for the DS lite and the Wii. I'll wait for the other systems! Especially the PS3. For $600, it better fly me on a European vacation as well as play games!

Meh, Best Buy isn't exactly what I'd call a "real" game retailer.
That honor I think would go to places like Gamestop, EB Games, and Rhino (sadly enough, I don't live near a Rhino anymore, you could get a used SNES, and SNES, NES, and other old games there), places like Gamestop EB Games and Rhino are completely devoted to gaming, Best Buy has a bunch of other stuff.
