DS Lite £99.99, June 23 in Europe

Nintendo's new handheld available in black and white in Europe from the end of next month.

Nintendo has announced that the DS Lite will be available in Europe from June 23 at an estimated retail price of £99.99 ($188), inclusive of VAT, in the UK, and 149.99 euros in Europe. The console will be available in both white and black, with the latter colour exclusive to the territory.

The new console is two-thirds the size of the original Nintendo DS and is designed to be a premium version of the company's £90 ($169) console. It retains all the same features as the original, including touch-screen technology, Wi-Fi capability, and GBA compatibility, but also introduces a number of design changes. The screens now have four adjustable backlight settings and are much brighter than before, the stylus is longer and thicker, and the console weighs 60g less than before.

Nintendo has also announced the games that will be available around the console's launch. Dr Kawashima's Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain? will arrive on June 9, Nintendogs Dalmatian & Friends Edition on June 16, New Super Mario Bros. on June 30, and Electroplankton on July 7.

    my god ma m8 has one it is relly the same as the other one and the lighting is relly annoyin and the touch screen dont work as well as the old one yer it looks noce but i think the old one looks better and the screen is bigger on the old one wht a waste of time if they are botherin to get a new console make it better than the ds even though tht is hard

    Ah man, im really tempted but what the hell do we do if we've already got one? I know Game will give you 40 quid if you trade it in so you can get a new Lite for 59.99.....but that still means weve paid £150.00 for a handheld Nintendo should have released in the first place. Obviously if you want to upgrade its your choice, but if people keep buying the latest one at Nintendos beck and call, imagine the future? 2008 - New console........2009 - Same console re-released, this time with the power button supplied

    looks quite nice, shame it hasnt got the graphical capabilities of the psp, then it would be the best machine ever! but ach well is good enough and looks lke a beautiful woman

    w00t! We get the Black DS Lite - the colour I wanted from the start! At last, Europe is actually getting something games related better than America! Unfortunately, we also get a £30 price increase, and have to wait 12 days longer to get it..Still it's all worth it for the Black!

    If anyone lives near a GAME store (the company) their doing a deal "trade in your old DS and get the DS lite for £59.99"

    i hate when ppl say PSP is going to die. i love my psp more and more everyday. i am getting a ds lite to jump into the nintendo market for the first time in..... (when did GBA SP come out? that is the time) and for the second time when the wii comes out. i still love the PSP though!

    Pre-ordered mine at HMV today. They said I was the first one to do so but you never can tell since they've just started advertising the LITE in the UK. To be safe though pre-order asap guys.

    On the Australian website for nintendo it says DS lite is coming out June 1st.

    Are the DS lites currently for sale on some websites the same as the ones being released soon in uk/usa etc?

    If I bought one off ebay now would it work ok with uk games, or would there be language problems?

    Hold on... I've got an original DS so why am I pre-ordering a DS Lite? Why aren't a buying a PSP? LOL JOKING. I don't believe you actually thought I wanted a PSP. Anyway, white or black or white or black. I guess the black one shows that the DS can be as sexy as the black PSP but with the white PSPs coming in, maybe the white one would be more up to date and could go more nicely with my Mac and...

    I think I should save up for the Wii first and then buy the DS Lite after they've pre-ordered the Wii

    Whoho! I think it's time to buy a DS. I almost bought one last fall, but when I heard about the Lite I thought I wait a while, and now, finally!

    ever since i found out about new super mario bros and yoshis island 2 (which was about a week ago) ive decided that a DS looks a pretty sweet option. plus after seeing the comparison between old and lite DS i can see its well worth getting the lite......OUFFFFF!!!!

    I plan on giving my mum my old DS with Tetris and Train your brain, she'll like that, then get myself a white DS, actually...I think I'll wait and see which I like best, I thought the blue one was kinda cool.

    I dunno why the heck the price tag is always so much more over in Europe. But the DS lite is a great system to purchase. And the lineup of new games coming out are going to make it a hit.

    Yes! Black! Sucks for europe though how everything is such a rip-off. I wonder if importing a black Lite would be as much as buying one there.
