E3 06: Frame City Killer canceled

Namco Bandai's Unreal Engine 3 action game canned, company confirms Xbox 360 role-playing game in works.

LOS ANGELES--A number of big-name games are suspiciously absent from this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, but the absence of one of them, Namco Bandai's Frame City Killer, has been explained today.

A message from the publisher on the Japanese Namco Channel site confirms that after a series of delays, development on the game has been discontinued.

"We are sorry to say that we have decided that Frame City--the Xbox 360 game which our company had planned for a spring 2006 release--will not be released," the company said. "Our apologies to everyone who was looking forward to the game's release."

Despite the setback, Namco Bandai will continue to support Microsoft's new system. It's showing Mobile Ops: The One Year War for the Xbox 360 at its E3 booth this year, and the Frame City Killer announcement indicates further development is under way.

"Our company will continue to develop high quality software for the Xbox 360 next-gen console, from a new RPG to others," Namco Bandai said. "We ask for your understanding. We'll announce new titles and their release dates separately."

Maybe they couldn't get the unreal engine to work on the 360, and I say that because it won't work on widows xp with a GF 6600.

This game looked stupid anyway. I'd rather see them put more resources into making Mobile Ops a good game...but that will probably suck like all the other gundam games that have ever come out.

  • Manatassi

    Posted May 15, 2006 12:40 am GMT

Hmmm they probably canceled it because t wasnt turning out to be any good anyway, so its no big loss.

The CG is pretty good and the idea too...
But I just don't know why they always put some non-sense Chinese words on the neon sign...Kind of demeaning...

LOL hahahaha thats so sad, atleast we have Gears of war.

  • thatguytony

    Posted May 14, 2006 10:52 am GMT

I was never that impressed by this game so I could careless. Considering what Microsoft has coming like Gears of War, Too Human, Mass Effect, Crackdown, etc, this one game going belly up dosen't make a difference.

Better to not release it, than release a crap game - it would damage the image of Namco Bandai and X360's one as well.

  • drangel_jam

    Posted May 14, 2006 1:24 am GMT

I'm crying... but I trust Namco. If they dicided so, they have a pretty good reason. Serve us, gamers, well, and we will keep embracing your work.

I hope another publisher picks it up, like Take 2 did with [initially] Capcom's Red Revolver.

Color me as who cares? Seriously this game looked so unoriginal it should have never been green lit in the first place. Bring on HALO 3, Huxley, Too Human, Gears of War, BIA Hells Highway, FEAR. Oh yeah I'm really gonna miss........what was that crappy game called again?

  • jer_1

    Posted May 13, 2006 11:25 am GMT

Frame City looked atrocious, I'm quite happy they canned that one. They probably realized what a crapper of a game they were developing, then moved on to something decent.

  • XAF1

    Posted May 13, 2006 10:13 am GMT

It was expected. We have one Namco-Bandi game right now and it looks like it was done on the Dreamcast which isn't bad for Ridge Racer or the Dreamcast but this is the Xbox 360. If they are making a RPG it had better look next-gen. I can guarantee that some part of Frame City Killer pops up on the PS3 maybe with a name change and graphical changes down the road. You know I'm starting to get that feeling I got with the original Xbox---which I didn't really mind back then. But it's starting to seem like another one of those situations of some Japanese developers not taking Xbox 360 gamers serious enough. Come on stop tossing us scraps and give us some quality games. Tecmo is giving us some great games, Q Entertainment, Phantagram are giving us some great games aswell as a few other Japanese developers. Sega has once more slapped Xbox gamers in the face by basically saying that Virtua Fighter ---one of it's greatest franchise is too good for the 360 and giving it a PS3 exclusive as it did with the PS2 and Xbox. Capcom is doing the same by giving us games that they aren't sure would do well on the PS3 and a few things like Resident Evil---what about Onimusha, Devil May Cry or something at least a little similar that would be appreciated more. And Square is a nonmentionable---FFXI what a joke. Square has so many great franchises that FFXI should have never been introduced as a suggestion if they wanted to test the 360 waters. They could have done better. If they want most gamers's money then they have to learn to dance for the 360 just as they do for the PS3. Quality over Quantity.

What ever, watch it show up on the PS3.
