E3 06: Vanguard: Saga of Heroes to use EMotion tech

Sigil Games Online's title using Mystic's EMotion FX real-time character animation technology on show at E3.

LOS ANGELES--Sigil Games Online has announced that Vanguard: Saga of Heroes is on show at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo and will be utilizing animation technology from EMotion. The FX real-time character animation technology has allowed the game's designers to animate just one character and play back that same motion data on all characters.

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes is a massively multiplayer game that will attempt to be the true successor to EverQuest and is set to be released this winter on the PC, and Sigil will be copublishing the game with Sony Online Entertainment. The characters in the game will share many of the same mesh assets and animations, while the EMotion technology offers distinct player-character models for thousands of characters.

We'll bring you more information on the game soon.

To ignore the SOE debate (thankfully they are only the publisher), this is great or the game. The animation shown was poor, but they have a definitive plan to make it some of the best out there.

Dont diss SOE, yeah they screwed up SWG and could not save MXO. But EQ and EQ2 are still going strong. WoW did not kill EQ and SOE is not playing catch up to WoW. Thats like saying Steak and Eggs isnt as good as Mac and Cheese. WoW is a kiddie game. Its the Elementary School of MMO games. Vanguard will be the University of MMOs. Bringing that piece of crap wanna be EQ2 (WoW) into an SOE conversation is an insult to all online gaming.

SOE is just going to handle billing and tech support. Sigil games is still doing everything in game, and no they are not back with Microsoft. Vanguard will also be part of SOE station all access pass.

Sigil left MS because they wanted more control over the publishing. Don't start this "rumor has it that MS kick Sigil to the curb" nonsense because that's just not true. Sigil purchased the rights back from MS; MS did not back out on them. A very real possibility is that MS wanted to release VG in June/July, which is when all the game stores out there projected the release date. They don't pull those numbers out of nowhere, people.

rumor has it that microsoft kicked sigil to the curb. they had to go somewhere. sad it was to SOE. SOE ruin's everything they touch...SWG im lookin in your direction. shame too, i was going to make this my new MMO.

For you SOE fanbois out there,If you honestly Believe that SOE as a Co-Producer has no voice on the turn out of vanguard then you are truly ignorant. No corporation as big as Sony would invest into a product ( yes invest and supervise that's what producers do) and let a third party have 100% control of the product . Open your eyes people!

Didnt Microsoft was only publishing before? hmmm now all of a sudden they leave Microsoft because sigil wanted to go in a different direction ( that's after Mr. Mcquaid claimed that Sigil was in full control) if Sigil was in full control they wouldn't have left Microsoft. They have control of selecting a Publisher but the deal usually works both ways.

You can only play a game so long before getting bored with it. Games have a life span. EQ ran out of gas and doesn't have the tech to do much more with it.

Regarding the SOE move, I'd suggest doing some research before whining about it. And if you're still complaining after that, I hope you don't buy the game so there's one less idiot playing it.

While Ill admit SoE's development reputation is questionable, SoE has definately got it down when it comes to publishing and marketing.

It's just that...with any "serious" MMO player (I have no idea what that means, exactly) the SOE name is kinda' hard to give props. EQ1 has dragged on way too long, EQ2 launched in rough shape and has been playing frantic catch-up to WoW literally since its first patch...Star Wars Galaxies, well - you know the deal there. Messy. So in that regard, Vanguard being in the SOE MMO stable kind of taints it, via attachment. It's all about track record and perception.

So they're actually co-publishing with SOE now? Damn, that's thick with irony. How did McQuaid let that happen?

All development is being done by Sigil. Only publishing (marketing, accounting, etc) are being done by Sony. Sony has no role into how the game is designed.

As for requirements, Everquest 2 is probably less intensive than Vanguard. But also this game is coming 2+ years after Everquest 2, so don't expect everyone to be able to play this game if your computer is designed for World of Warcraft.

WoW only made the "finishing-blow" to EverQuest.

EverQuest "in my eyes" had been going downhill since Planes of Power, which was before WoW's time.

Through Microsoft? You mean SOE right? Or did they leave SOE again and go back to MS after leaving them?

  • Azeren

    Posted May 10, 2006 10:45 am PT

The publisher is now Sony Online Entertainment (SOE), and please don't rant here on how SOE ruined your life by destroying some game.
