E3 06: ESA releases E3 factoids

Industry trade group runs down the numbers associated with next week's big show.

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) today issued a fact sheet that puts the size of its Electronic Entertainment Expo into perspective. The show takes place next week, running May 9 to 12 in Los Angeles, California.

This year the ESA reports it has more than 400 companies from 90 countries signed up to show their wares, 540,000 square feet of exhibitor space for visitors to canvas, and more than 175 industry leaders presenting over the course of its conference and workshop program. Some other facts released by the ESA today included:

--Exhibitors will display nearly 1,000 never-before-seen games and products.

--Almost half of exhibitors (49 percent) will launch one or more titles for the latest handheld platforms.

--Almost two-thirds of E3 exhibitors (60 percent) will showcase games scheduled to hit store shelves by the 2006 holiday season.

--11 percent of companies will exhibit one or more games featuring celebrities or other "Hollywood" talent, including directors, screenwriters, and musicians.

--One-tenth of exhibitors (10 percent) will present one or more games or products that include a health or fitness element.

--More than 5,800 flat-screen computer and television monitors will be seen on the show floor and in public areas.

--More than 850,000 pounds of equipment will run along the convention ceiling.

--Approximately 79,000 square yards of carpet and other flooring will cover the Los Angeles Convention Center.

--110,000 square feet of banners will hang within the convention center during the show.

    Admission: 20 Dollars

Walking into a room with enough lighting to give you a tan in under 30 seconds: Priceless...

Hmm, hope there's no problems with the ceiling. That's a huge number, very impressive. Just don't think about it when you're there or you'll constantly be staring at the ceiling hoping it doesn't collapse.

Ok, a stat I'm pumped about.... 1/10 of the presenters will feature a game that includes a fitness element. Don't know how other's feel about this, but I think Yourself! Fitness was brilliant, love to see what else is coming out.

    nice stats rumsfeld47 specially
"-1000/1: ratio of male 'parts' to female 'parts' during convention"
"--99%: percentage of attendees with virginity intact".
E3 is gonna blow my mind... can't wait... it's a shame I live in southamerica... a little too far away... The only number I'm waiting for is 3, for PS3

I am of the opinion that this show should be held in Chicago's McKormick Place Convention Center as it is the premier convention center in the US and Chicago is extremely beautiful this time of year.

E3 is really a great show. This will be my 10th year going, and i'm looking forward to it as much as the 1st time. It's a hefty $500 just to get in this year, but hopefully no one's going there not expecting to pay money. All said and done, from the east coast to west, hotel, airfare, taxi, etc. it will end up around $1500. But, it's worth it.

and yes you can go if you work in some form of electornic retail, but i'm not sure if you (or your employer) still has to pay the admission price...e3 aint free, sadly...

who's up to storm the gates at e3 with me!!!??? i live in la....they cant keep ALL of us from bumrushing the sony booth and getting our hands on the ps3 demo kiosk, at least we'd get a couple of seconds worth of playtime before getting a security guards baton to the head...but oh what a couple of seconds....

also, i'm wiling to take the hit and divert the attention by running to the ms booth instead and play me some GoW
