E3 06: Vivendi confirms F.E.A.R. for 360

PC shooter headed to Microsoft's next-gen console this fall; Day 1 Studios (MechAssault) on as developers.

Monolith Productions' F.E.A.R. for the PC was regarded as one of 2005's most intense shooters, regardless of platform. However, those without the PC firepower to run the graphics-intensive game feared the worst--that they wouldn't be able to play it at all.

Relief came when not one, but two rumors hit the Internet about F.E.A.R. heading to the Xbox 360. Gamers murmured about the possibility of an Xbox 360 version because F.E.A.R. was built on the same technology as Monolith's Condemned: Criminal Origins--an Xbox 360 game. Fans reasoned that Condemned eventually made its way to the PC, so why couldn't the reverse happen for F.E.A.R.?

Vivendi finally let the cat out of the bag today, announcing that F.E.A.R. would terrorize Microsoft's next-generation console this fall. The game will make its public debut at next week's Electronic Entertainment Expo, but Vivendi has not yet revealed if the game will include any extra features.

Monolith won't be working on the port of F.E.A.R. Those duties have been handed off to Chicago-based Day 1 Studios, who worked on both MechAssault and MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf.

F.E.A.R. for the Xbox 360 has not yet been priced and will likely carry the same M-for-Mature rating as its PC counterpart. For more information on the game, check out GameSpot's PC review.

This is very great news cause this game is really good. But to all those 360 haters out there I can care less about if its a port or not.And I REALLY can care less about Japan.I love my shooters, and I love my sports and fighting games. And the 360 has that.

lol.. i think its kinda funny when certain pc gamers act and look kinda stupid when they scoff at a pc ports to consoles.. even predictable ones like F.E.A.R.. consoles have made huge leaps.. and with the next generation consoles they make spending thousands on a decent pc rig even less neccessary.. just like Oblivion.. F.E.A.R will still look great, and in fact alot better than most get it working on their pc's if they dont have cutting edge hardware.. so when comments are made by pc only about how they finished games like F.E.A.R months earlier.. I'd have to say how their progress is on God of War, Resident Evil 4, Gran Turismo 4, Burnout Revenge, and Metal Gear Solid 3 among others.. and if they still are looking forward to Halo 2 (lol) coming to the pc..

Good for people with slower PC's and have a 360.
This game needs to be optimized.

Fear will be old news by christmas, and the x360 won't be able to run it as well as it runs on a high end pc. It needs a 265mb video card plus 500+ mb system ram to run well and the 360 only has 512 total ram. It is also not being ported by Monolith.

    Oh, this is so sweet...

I am one of the minority gamers who prefers console FPS's to PC FPS's. So I have had to watch as my friends enjoy F.E.A.R. and I'm left with Perfect Dark Zero. I am so excited.

    Keep 'em comin'.

monolith had a shake-up and split up a bit, which is why there is a new publisher for the game. I enjoy sitting in my living room playing on the HDTV, so I will be counting the days until this game is released. It is funny to see the mouse-jockeys and Sony fanboys trrying to trash a game , they haven't seen in action yet.

Whats funny about fear is that it never scared me the first time through, it was really cool though especially near the end. The second time through though one part scared me pretty good cause I completely forgot about it.

This was clearly the best FPS for the PC last year! This game will work on the the 360. When I first played it for PC I could clearly see this being ported. I loved the game so much that I will probably buy it for the 360 as well.

I'm getting tired of people going off about how the 360 would not be able to run FEAR smoothly at highest settings. That's like saying the original XBOX couldn't run Quake3. And I thought Condemned had graphics at least as good as FEAR. Ran smooth and IT WAS A LAUNCH TITLE. Some people are just stupid, you've seen Gears of War, you've seen Splinter Cell Double Agent and yet you doubt that the 360 could run FEAR even when Condemned ran off the same graphics engine and looked even better. The 60 will support better graphics than Crysis before it's life is over, believe me, if u don't believe me i'll be the one laughing

Another FPS... I have been playing games since I was 14 (that's 25 years ago), and I am really tired of FPS (and I saw a lot of them). A good FPS once in a while is fun, but frankly, I wish MS would try to offer much more variety in their games. Since the launch of the XBox360, there was Perfect Dark Zero, Call of Duty, GRAW, etc... that's too many FPS compared to other type of games. They may be good games technically, but I don't see much difference between them as far as gameply is concerned: reload... hide... run... shoot (well... almost all the same).

I think companies do not wish to take risks like they did ten years ago because of the cost of making games today, and that they prefer to go with a good ol' FPS to survive rather than something new.

I guess that's the price of the next generation consoles. (Let's hope Sony will not do the same as MS).

It's about time this was confirmed! FEAR is definitely a game that, if brought to the 360 correctly, could very well shake up the console shooter world. However, I'll hold out on that shooter (probably) and just wait for my Red Steel on the Rev, as the dev team is said to have been influenced by the AI in FEAR. ^_^

Lets see if the graphics are as good on the 360. Textures are going to be an issue. To run at med tex on the PC you basically need 1gig to avoid serious stuttering. The xbox360 has only 512. The mutiple processors should help deal with the massive use of particles. Anyway, I predict similar effects on the 360, but lower-res textures.

Screw u guys that dont like FPS PC PORts. I love it I hope MS keeps making PC Ports that are better just to piss you pc fanboys off. Oh and do you still want a PC, have fun with your $600 machine, your japanese games, Ill be busy playing FEAR on the far better console so STFU!

The storyline was crap, as well as most of the level design. Only at the very end did the story begin to go somewhere. The only thing this game has going for it, is the shoot outs and the "Matrix" mode. The claims that this was a "horror" game were crap.....Doom and System Shock 2 were scarier than this game. It's more hype than anything else.
