SNK Playmore pledges support for Wii, DS

Publisher to put out games for Nintendo's consoles, Wii to get Metal Slug Anthology, while SNK vs. Capcom Card Fighters DS is set for US release.

SNK Playmore is throwing its hat into the Nintendo ring, as the publisher today announced that it would begin supporting both the Wii and the Nintendo DS. Previously, the only Nintendo system to see SNK Playmore development was the Game Boy Advance, which played host to Metal Slug Advance and is set to receive a port of the original arcade Metal Slug.

For its first Wii project, SNK Playmore is preparing Metal Slug Anthology. Not to be confused with the recently announce Metal Slug Collection on the PSP, Metal Slug Anthology is being billed as "a full arcade collection." Presumably, that would include the relatively new Metal Slug 6 (the only arcade Metal Slug game missing from the PSP collection). However, SNK Playmore is promising that these won't be straight ports, as the company's president Ben Herman said in a statement that "the Wii controller will be used in a new and unique way that enhances the gameplay."

SNK Playmore also announced its intention to support the DS in America today. Herman also said in the statement that the company would enter the market with SNK vs. Capcom Card Fighters DS.

That's excellent. I got madd love for SNK, and now I know that I've got a good chance of seeing my main man Iori Yagami on my Wii. (That sounds so wrong.)

mickel- Sony USA hates 2d games and doesn't allow them on their console unless it is as a bundle of 2 games or more. This is why all SNK games on PS2 in Japan get ported to XBox in the US. (ex Samurai Showdown V, KOF Neowave, Metal Slug 3) They were all originally on the PS2 in Japan. It would have been simpler to just keep them on PS2 but Sony throws a fit. This foolishness goes back to the original Playstation.

I am looking forward to SNKs work with Nintendo. I hope the DS card fighter is the 2nd one that didn't make it to the US.

SNK vs Capcom Card Fighters DS? I was hoping they'd make a regular fighting game, card battling games just aren't my type.

I wonder what one will be better to get the one for the PSP or the WII.

I would think the wii because of the controller but I thought the PSP one will come with a little more games then the Wii one.

SNK vs. Capcom Card Fighters for the DS sounds pretty neat.

To hell with a name. It's all about the games man. Wii's Virtual Console games will rock. Watch when Neo Geo is announced for it, then Konami, Capcom, Namco...all other will announce as well. As far as Wii titles themselves, expect to see see most, if not all, games to run at 60 frames per second in progressive scan. I'd rather play the New Rainbow Six, or Call Of Duty, or Medal Of Honor in pro-scan at a steady 60fps, than to play the same in high def at 30.

As long as you aren't forced to use the Wii's controller functionality, I'll buy this in an instant. If SNK gets creative and decides that you can no longer play Metal Slug the way God intended (with a regular controller), then I'm not even going to consider this.

Wow, besides the awesome Metal Slug Anthology, I wonder if their 2D fighting game series will make it to the Wii? Very Interesting. It's pretty good though. 2D is not quite dead yet with this company. I like this company's 2D game series. I can't imagine what exclusive they will make for Wii. Maybe a Samurai Spirit/Showdown game.... which would be pretty cool.

MadonnaProject: "2D" games for the Wii? You must mean stuff like Red Steel, or Sadness, right?

Btw, the new Card Fighters game is for the DS...NOT Nintendo's next-gen console. Aside from that, the 2D genre still has plenty of life left, especially on portable platforms - e.g. Castlevania.

nintendo is getting more and more 3rd party support. hmm maybe i wont have to wait 3 to 4o months in between good games on my nintendo system anymore.

Nintendo IS getting third party support but most of these titles are the LOW-FOCUS low-end of the respectable publishers food chain....like the ds is getting all the watered down garbage....

Wii is a nice market, it will cater to the niche. Mediocrity for the mediocre....

Soon theyll be churning out LOTS of 2d games for the Wii, and other easy to make pies which they can peddle for under 40 bucks so people who cant afford a good xbox 360 or a ps3 game can buy 2 passable, wii games....

Gears of war = spongebob wii paint, mario wii fishing, snk card fighting....uh huh sounds just about right....
