Super Monkey Ball spins Revolutions

Banana Blitz will use console's controller for new jumping ability and innovative party games.

SEGA Studios announced today that it is developing Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz for the Nintendo Revolution. The game is forming part of the company's Electronic Entertainment Expo lineup and promises new puzzle levels and party games that are specifically designed for the Nintendo Revolution controller.

The game's single-player puzzle game will allow AiAi and friends to jump for the first time in the series, by flicking the Revolution controller in an upward motion. The party-game mode includes some brand new fairground minigames, including ring toss and whack-a-mole, which will also make use of the Revolution's movement-sensitive controller.

Scott A. Steinberg, vice president of marketing at SEGA of America, commented "Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz will present a mind-boggling array of gameplay innovations that will excite and challenge gamers while pushing the boundaries of imagination forward."

We'll have more on the game from E3 next month. Check out our preview of the event here.

Can't wait to see some media from it.

Heh, as an aside, reading an article like this makes me somewhat feel like playing the original Super Monkey Ball a bit on the ol' GameCube...

I had a blast when I had company over and played this game. I could just imagine how much fun it would be with a accurate and well functionning controller like the Revolution will have.

Kirby Tilt & Tumble was a little clumsy with the whole jump thing, but a great game on the whole. Hopefully they nail the jump thing with a bit more precision this time.

This is one of the franchises that SEGA still has going for 'em. They better not screw it up like they did with the DS version.

Sega Rocks. They always get on board with everything and at least give it a shot. Only 3rd party company to make an eyetoy game- Sega. Only 2 online games on Gamecube- Sega. 1st company to use GC link cable in US- Sega. Only worthwhile launch game on DS- Sega. They always seem to have something to offer for almost every system launch. I am sure they will do awesome things with this system.

This announcement has me interested, Super Monkey Ball is big fun. But like every thing else Revolution related, I'm going to wait and see.

Don't get me wrong I'm hoping the Revolution will turn out to be a fun machine, but so far all I have heard is ideas about what it's controller might be able to do and what people would like it to be able to do. To be honest I have my doubts.

P.S. It's funny that the EA article on 1up is called: "EA says Revolution Challenging"

It's also funny that EA's slogan is: "Challenge EVERYTHING!"

    mrgokugf, thanks for the hint.

I really expected a statement like that from EA. They just always claim they are changing, in order to get more support. However they'll never do. They are just too afraid to mess up with their money making formula. So never expect inovation from EA.

Nintendo is looking at a more diverse launch line-up than the 360 did, that can only be great news. Now if only it comes out on time... *cough* Zelda...

  • bassgit

    Posted Apr 26, 2006 6:56 am PT

It looks like the revolution is getting games made specifically for it which is great. I got a 360 and I'm getting sick of all this patching and port crap. I'd rather take a hit on graphics and have my games work after spending money on them, without having to patch them in the future. An example would be Tomb Raider legends for the 360. The graphics scream port with a paintjob and the framerate sucks.

The gameplay of Monkey Ball is perfect for taking advantage of the Rev's controller. Now if only Katamari Damacy had ever been released for DS....

    Sounds like fun.

It's interesting that they didn't do "moving the controller makes your ball move." they must've learned from Touch and Roll.
