Res Evil film faces Extinction

Third film in game-based trilogy will be subtitled Extinction; Oded Fehr, Sienna Guillory, Mike Epps return for 2007 release.

Like the zombies that star in them, the Resident Evil movies keep coming back for more. The third installment of the series is set to begin filming next month in Mexico, according to Variety.com, moving from its previous shooting location Down Under to south of the border. Once known by its working title Resident Evil: Afterlife, the film is doing a U-turn and adopting the subtitle Extinction.

While star Milla Jovovich was a given to return as Alice, some costars from Resident Evil: Apocalypse are also returning to reprise roles. Oded Fehr, who has portrayed a breadth of characters, such as the gigolo in Deuce Bigalow and the terrorist mastermind in Sleeper Cell, will once again play Carlos Olivera. Sienna Guillory (Love Actually, Eragon) returns as Jill Valentine (pictured), and Mike Epps (How High, The Honeymooners) will play as L.J.

The film will be directed by Highlander-helmer Russell Mulcahy and was written by game-based film vet Paul W.S. Anderson. The producing team includes Anderson, Jeremy Bolt, and Robert Kulzer; Bernd Eichinger and Samuel Hadida will executive produce.

Though Extinction has yet to have one take in the can, a fourth Resident Evil movie is already being planned.

    Im a big fan of RE so i cant say i hate this movie. I actually liked this movie, not as good as the first one but it was good.

    The first movie kicked ass, I felt it had its own seperate part of the resident evil storyline. I saw it as a different mansion connecting to a more in-depth umbrella lab. The the 2nd would've been great if the original cast of RE3 wasn't in it and because of the 2nd movie screwed the storyline up, means for me the rest of the RE movies will be crap. Anderson should've kept the events the same and kept the original suvivors out of it. He could've just kept Nemesis in with new suvivors. It would be like explaining why Nemesis didn't follow Jill every single second of the RE3, he was busy dealing with Alice then goes back to Jill which is trying to escape according to the game. All I can say about the third is I haven't seen it yet but I already know I'll be disappointed because of the events of the RE2 Movie.

    mmmm.... the first movie was good! but.. Apocalipse TOO BADD.
    The director know this, I trust the 3rd can be Much better.

    I think will be betther a history with others heros...... have you see the second RE movie...... oh god what a fuc....... nothing to say.... but why the same histoy whit -jill, chris and NEMESIS- why.....

    I hate that the real heroes Leo Chris Jille Claire, are not the heroes on the movie they have enough material to make good movies they dont need to create a all new story

    For that my rank is 9.5/10, just because RE is RE, and always have a high score

    Coming on MAN, make this Resident Evil movie atmosphere like DAWN OF THE DEAD. Especially the flesh-eating zombies in Resident Evil look like halloween party. Is zombies in Resident Evil game a window shopper..

    I actually liked the movies despite the mixed reviews. It served the fan purpose but I wasn't totally enthralled with the first movie and the little girl hologram. It could have been made into true horror epic if they made a Code Veronica movie, but an action movie is great

    Why are people acting like RE4 the movie will e based on RE4 the game? Never was that mentioned in the article, not to mention it wouldn't really fit, at all, into the storyline of the movies...

    even though an RE4 movie would be good, i think it would have to be made by different people than the other RE movies cause they are really bad. i watched the movie before i played the game, so when i watched it, there was no comparison in my head between the movie and the game, and it was crap. then when i played the game, i started thinking it was worse than crap. it honestly never should've seen the light of day. everything about that movie sucked. different people should definitely have made the RE movies who wanted to stick to the storyline cause the storyline in the RE movies now, aren't worth anyone's time, and why don't they stick to the characters? and if they wanted to make a horror movie that follows alice in wonderland, why not just make american mcgee's alice into a movie? i hear someone's actually doing that now though. hopefully that's a better movie than this crap. i can't believe they're actually making a third one.

    and i read someone said we're lucky to even have RE movies. i entirely disagree. if it's not done right, it's not good to have them. it's better to have the ability to dream about a good RE movie than to be disappointed by a crap RE movie.

    I don't know... Usually video game movies suck, but Apocalypse was pretty damn good, I must admit. An RE4 movie would rock, I'd LOVE to see who they cast in that!

    I wish paul never wrote these movies, MK1 wan't made/written by him, he only directed it to the screen. MK1 was actaully accurate to the game(by looking at MK1 and 2's bios) so he desearves no title as it's maker with this trash. If he wrote MK1 it be MK2:A from the beginning. period.

    And why is it the director has the "a .... film" when he doesn't make any of the events on film realy, they all need to be out up into the presents credites with the producer where they belong.

    There is something to be said about chilling down at Bathurst and Harbord and looking to Central Tech's front entrance only to see smashed up cop cars and bodies/zombies everywhere. I almost wished Toronto was overrun with zombies then!!!!

    I dunno, the film sucked, but there's something fun about having it filmed at a school where tons of people you know went!

    When they were filiming that ish I wanted to be a zombie extra so badly!

    On they're own, the movies are pretty decent, but when compared to the games...*sigh* I can't even begin to say where they went wrong...

    and i saw someone write stop comparing the movies to the games. I'm sorry thats where the movies cames from. Also and even if the games didn't exist the movies are pure **** I'm sorry to keep posting but its just that i have been around resident evil since it started and it is one of my favorite games of all time and I'm tired of seeing people ruin it with there movies.

    i don't know what half these people are talking about. The first two movies sucked. Well the first wasn't horrible but wasn't and the second was piss poor crap. I don't know what was worse the writing or acting. I have been around since the first resident evil came out of the ps1 in the tall original ps1 boxes. The writers and director took everything from the first game and switched everything around. The only thing that is similar to the games is that there are zombies and there is a mansion. These movies could have been 10x better if they would have sticked to the actual story and not making up there own **** story. I think its easy to say that the writers have never played any of the games or even heard of them.

    This move is gonna f*cking rule! I heard it has bits of CVX it it like Alice finding an exact replica of the mansion from the first film and a cameo from Albert "the man" Wesker. I know alot of people don't like these film adaptations...too bad. Get over it! We are LUCKY to even have RE movies. Also, the books by SD Perry are awesome too.

    The only explanation i could think of when the planet is "gone" could just mean that the t-Virus or the G-Virus...or both, could have wiped out half of humanity..thus being giving the name Extinction. ether way, I loved the first two films.

    the first movie was pretty good cuz it was kind of a side story to the game and the second one was kinda wierd and didnt do as good a job cuz it totally recreated RE3 which made me sad and from the looks of the trailer for extinction its goin down a bad bad road by putting the RE series in the middle of the desert and the planet is gone? wat?

    Paul WS Anderson is a hack. He needs to stop making movies and thinking that he has an actual hand in the way the game's story is really progressing. He is ruining it. He ruined nemesis, he ruined Jill, now he is going to ruin Claire? Where the hell is CHRIS?! he has clear issues in his priorties telling a story. Keep your filthy hands out of resident evil and go back to mortal kombat, oh,, and Milla Jovovich isnt that great either, so stop mixing fairy tales in with a damn game. it's true...watch the commentary to the first movie...the bastard had it retold as alice and wonderland.Sorry, but when you turn my favorite game into a damn fairy tale, I am going to complain about how it ruins the story, ESPECIALLY when all the main characters take a back seat to Anderson's precious "alice" character, who sucks anyway. He is starting to give Uwe Bol a run for his money for people who "shouldnt make movies about video games."

    For all of you people who think these movies are crappy, i know what your problem is. You need to stop comparing the movies to the games. Yeah, compared to the games, the movies look pretty bad. But you cant do that when you watch these movies, all the people who made these movies are trying to do is to make a movie that you willl enjoy to watch. I watched them WITHOUT COMPARING THEM TO THE GAMES and they were actually pretty good. Can't wait for this movie!
