2K thaws MLB freezing

Development team offers two solutions to fix problem with MLB 2K6 for Xbox 360--disable hard drive, or reset cache by loading three different games.

When Major League managers get in a jam, they often take a look at their relief pitchers, pick one who ate a healthy breakfast, cross their fingers, and hope their player's fresh arm gets the job done.

Developers of baseball games, on the other hand, have to tangle with their problems by quickly scouting out temporary solutions before they can issue a patch. The 2K Sports development team has now issued a workaround solution to the freezing problem that has plagued its MLB 2K6 game for the Xbox 360, but it isn't a simple call to the bullpen.

On a post on the official 2K Sports forums, an admin offers up two ways to "alleviate the 'freeze' issue." The first and simplest solution is to remove or disable the Xbox 360's hard drive, if there is one attached. The other is to put three different Xbox 360 games into the console, letting them fully load, and then put in MLB 2K6. This effectively resets any cached info on MLB 2K6.

It should be noted that these workarounds are only temporary solutions, and that 2K is working on a patch that will be released as soon as it passes "first-party compliance standards."

2K Sports apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused gamers.

That's bull. I just did it then I took a break for about an hour and it froze. Thanks 2K sports for wasting my money. They better come up with the patch quick. Other than that, it's a pretty good game so.

yeah, I've been waiting for this stupid game to come out on 360 for forever and after buying it I can't even play it! I'm glad they're gonna post a patch for the game soon though- I just feel sorry for all the people that don't have a way to download it (those without xbox live).

So much on Next-gen talk, I guess PC still best to play video game. Since most games develope on PC then ported onto Xbox or PS2 development kit.

you know...it's probably not entirely the game. the 360 has been known to freeze before...what an overpriced piece of junk. apparently your not paying for quality these days.

I just picked up MVP 2005 for PC last week from gamestop and used those mods from mvpmods.com. The game is more fun than any current MLB game, and alot less trouble. I was looking foward to next gen baseball, but i guess it will not happen till they start getting more serious in testing of product.

WOW! I cant believe you have to do all that just to play the game. You would think they would have it ATLEAST playable before releasing.

Let me start off by saying I have enjoyed most of the 2K sports games but this isn't the only game that has had freezing problems. Look no further than NHL 2K6 360 which was also has franchise killing freezing issues. Check their forums, the proof is right there but they ignore everyone's problems with the game. They are not addressing this issue though and claim it is not there fault. Lets look at NHL 2K5 and College Hoops 2K5 now. These games also had franchise killings freezes in the middle of franchise or legacy mode which made the game worthless. Now, today they released an auto update for NBA 2K6 360. They don't even post on their site what it fixes and then to top it off it causes an incorrect tally of the crib points when playing the game. Release an update and it causes other problems. Thats just beautiful. All of these gaming sites only want to publicize the problems with MLB 2K6. How about they break the story on the issues with almost every other game they publish. The whole truth("You can't handle the truth!") about all their games needs to be out there for everyone to know so they will feel the heat to make sure they ensure they make and ship quality games for consumers to purchase.

what'd they do? someone say "hey, we're outta options... Johnson! load up 3 games and see if MLB stops freezing!"... honestly how'd they even think to try that?

I took off my hard drive to play a game and instead of freezing the game just crashed to a black screen. I just took my copy back and got a different game.

What a load of crap if you ask me. Testing games before you release them would of fixed this issue, but NO you had to rush it, 2k Sports.

I can't try any of these "fixes" because I don't even have my XBOX.. it went south on me this weekend... one red light and hardware failure.. DOH!.. stinks for me but oh well, I'll get it repaired or replaced.

Now that the best 2 sport games in video game history can't come out for a few years. (NFL 2K, and MVP Baseball) we the gamers are suffering, so that this doesn't happen again, these sport franchises need to consider this before granting exsclusive licensing deals.

This is a problem with Oblivion also. Oblivion has a way of dumping the cache by holding in the A button as the system and game boots. This sadly doesn't always fix the problem. After about a 4 hour game session the other night my Oblivion locked up and wouldn't respond at all. I reset and did the cache trick and it still had problems. I started it again the next day, doing the cache trick and it seems to be ok for now. I believe 2K had something to do with Oblivion too. At least it says 2K when the game first starts.

  • bbruzzes_basic

Remove the Hard Drive, that's their solution? Most of us don't have a memory unit, so how are we supposed to save in franchise and season mode or play online? The other solution is not so good either because it seems like it's a royal pain, and it requires a person to have 3 other 360 games. I won't buy it until they come out with a patch that solves the freezing issues.

Heh, I wonder what the fallout would be like if this were an EA game instead of a 2K one? And exclusivity SUCKS regardless of who has the licenses. May the commissioners and all other responsible parties in the NFL and MLB get a nice, healthy *****-slap for being dumb enough to go exclusive in the first place. They deserve it.

  • ImaginaryFriend

    Posted Apr 17, 2006 11:34 am PT

the game comes out after spring training and then doesn't work right... that doesn't sound like a great "exclusive" contract to the fans now...

I loved the MVP series and the NFL 2k series, but now both are destroyed due to this exclusive crap!

  • mjbst81

That is a great work around......

This is why exclusive licenses are the wrong way to go with the major sports leagues.
