Kameo co-opted on Xbox Live

Free update gives Rare's adventure game online and system link co-op play, two new 200-point costume downloads also available.

Recently, the Xbox 360 version of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has been at the center of a small controversy. While the universally praised game itself isn't the subject of the spat, a content update to it is, as players have protested that Microsoft is charging $2.50 for an in-game item on Xbox Live Marketplace.

Today, though, players of another Xbox 360 game got a whole new gameplay mode gratis. Microsoft announced that starting today, three new content packs for Kameo: Elements of Power are available via Xbox Live. One of them, the Kameo Co-op Pack, is a free download for Xbox Live Gold subscribers, and it updates the game with "two-player cooperative gameplay ... over Xbox Live and System Link." Currently, the game only has split-screen co-op.

Two other content packs for Kameo are available--for the price of 200 Xbox Live Marketplace points, or around $2.50. The Kameo Masquerade Pack updates the game with 10 new costumes for the game's heroine, including "recognizable outfits from classic Rare titles." The Fright Warrior Pack also contains costumes for Kameo and her non-player warriors. All the outfits have "fantastic and scary" themes, according to Microsoft. Costumes can be accessed via the bonus menu in the last page of the Wotnot book.

now I just hope they update Amped 3 with online play. Or fix the glitches on THAW to get rid of cheating.

Anyway, this shows that online play is basically a requirement for this gen.

one person can buy the stuff, save before a co-op, drop it give it to his friend then he can save it, so, basically if you go on the bbs looking for these items. and you bought them with mirco points, you can barter items that you don't have in co-0p or dupe or sale., this is going to get funny.

My bad. I thought the download was for split-screen, which is actually available out of the box. Sounds good to me, and actually inticing, becuase I'd rather get a game now and wait a little while for added features than see a delay of the whole game (which would have been super-bad for MS in this case).

Ummm...last time I checked MS did not set pricing for Bethesda.

Granted Bethesda tacked on 0$.50 to cover any costs MS might have added just for good measure.

Looking forward to the online co-op. And GredegHeado-san, you have to be a Gold member to play online co-op or any multiplayer for that matter. That's what separates Gold from Silver memberships.

split screen live multiplayer is horrible. and co-op for cod2 would be cool, but if it even happens it'll probably be in the next cod.

Charging a few bucks for non-essential things like new costumes and the like is fine, but gameplay types and higher quality in-game items (armor, weapons, etc) that actually effect how the game is played should NOT cost extra money. High-five to whomever decided to make this co-op patch free!

*crosses fingers* here's hoping for a co-op COD2 mode in awhile. Or at least split screen online multiplayer....

So does that mean you get a bundle of costumes for 2.50 as opposed to just one piece of horse armor in Oblivion for the same price?

chrisdojo, how will an 8 hour game now only take 4? You still have to play through all the single player levels in order to unlock and play through them again in co-op mode. So the game still has all of it's playability -- yet now you have the option of playing through levels with a friend in co-op mode (just like previously... but now over Live).
