E3 06: Sony sets E3 press conference date

The afternoon of May 8 will see more PlayStation 3 details revealed...hopefully.

Last month, Microsoft announced that it will hold its pre-Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 9. The move surprised many in the industry, as Microsoft has held the event during the evening of the Monday prior to E3 for the past several years.

Today, one of Microsoft's next-gen rivals revealed when its press conference will be. Unlike its competitor, Sony is staying with the same time slot it had last year, when it moved its event from the Tuesday evening to Monday afternoon. This year, the press conference will be held the afternoon of Monday, May 8, two days before the expo kicks off.

Sony's conference will also be held at the same venue it was in 2005, the Sony Pictures Entertainment Studios in Culver City, California. Its subject will likely also be the same, as last year's event centered on the PlayStation 3. Sony has not announced what exactly it will be talking about at the event.

With Microsoft and Sony's pre-E3 conferences in place, all eyes are now on Nintendo. However, it is unlikely that the Mario Factory will deviate from its traditional slot--the morning of the Tuesday before E3.

E3 2006 runs from Wednesday, May 10, to Friday, May 12.

So, Sony did or did not change the time slot? I see that microsoft did but then the article gets a little convoluted. Why would Microsoft schedule a pre-party after Sony? Was there even any info we got from this? Oh well at least it talks about videogames.

There's going to be actual playable PS3 content this time. There's no way Sony's going to ruin it for us.

LOL...again playable demos...remember last E3 how everyone swore the PS3 titles show were playable.

Unless they stick a controller in my hand and I get to insert a disk it's not playable no matter how many rubber ducks they try to beat us into submission with.

I expect both Sony and Nintendo to show final hardware on PS3 and Revolution this E3, and also playable games (at some level) if they are really releasing both systems in November. Hopefully that will be the case.

I'm anxious to see the price. Here's the deal Sony, less than $300 I'll buy a PS3 for Christmas, more than than I'm getting a Revolution. I simply cannot afford to pay more than that, and the PS2 and PSP both failed to meet my expectations.

My Response: "The afternoon of May 8 will see more PlayStation 3 details revealed...hopefully."
That is the kind of title that gets gamers thinking of what will happen at that conference. More or less the new conclusions of the PS3 and other hints on what the console will bring to the table. this also may resonate to a battle of game vs system...when micrsoft is going to try to release H3 (Halo 3) at the same time of the launch of the PS3....which would be a bold move...but how good will that move get? Online Sources that i look at every once and in a while seem to do those online polls and which systems popularity would be the most......5 out of 6 of those polls say "PS3".

even though i have set my mind for the ps3, im willing to give the rev a shot only of they show some decent games,im not going to just buy a rev for its old school gaming library.

If PS3 does not forfil on its promises I will most likely just buy a 360.

They have allot of stuff that needs to be told. I want to see that killzone 2 demo playable and see if this online is as good as they say.

MS needs to show some of their games off to... no freakin Halo 3 goddamit.

So Microsoft is going to try to one up Sony by having their press conference the next day. Good luck Microsucks, they will need it.

Hope there is some solid news on Rev though.

    ps3 better be playable.

  • Imavnas

    Posted Apr 4, 2006 12:40 am PT

PS3 needs to stay right here, not go to hell. If it goes to hell so goes the 360 with it. The only console that MAY be able to hang on if any of the others die out is the Rev., and only because of the supposed cheap manufacturing costs (and even then we dont know if the controller will be a hit with the casual audiences). Im hoping for a Price announcement from Sony, and possibly some launch announcements. From Nintendo I want to see actual gameplay (PLEASE Nintendo, some real Rev controller/nunchuck gameplay.). And from the box id like to see how some of the supposed killer aps are progressing. Theirs not much releasing from here on till after summer. Thats a long time without any killer apps.

I would be VERY surprised if a price was announced. But hey, there will be a playable Warhawk demo. I loved that game. In 1995. Hot news for me would be 2-year warranty coverage with the PS3.

Yes it does matter when each conference is & time of day. Each company plans their conference based on when the other's are. And there have been times where a company with a conference in the morning following another companies the night before have suffered from a journalist perspective because so many people were hung-over that were there to cover the event.

Nintendo has always stuck with tradition. Release will always be in Japan first, then US, then Europe, and this will not be any different. Let's just hope they pull out some big guns.

No, GS, Sony won't. Their elected speaker is just going to stand on the stage for about an hour laughing at you with swirling colours in the background.
